- In this episode of Basic Nigerian History, Dr Catel continues the discussion of the Sokoto caliphate and continues from where we left off back in episode 13.
BNH is going to be like a crash course (or an edutainment series) on Nigerian history using animation and clever commentary in order to educate and entertain. Along the way it will also touch on other parts of West African history.

I was playing EU4 and AI formed Sokoto (very rare), so I was looking to learn more about African Caliphate. Thank you for this content, not much can be found on the matter!
I can't fully express how happy I am that this content exists. Thanks so much. Great one.
More to come!
This is not talked about too much but not all slaves in The Mali Empire were Sub Saharan African some were North African, Middle Eastern, Caucasus, And even European
May Allah have mercy on shekou Ousman Dan fodio
Amin
I’ve been waiting to hear about Sokoto, thanks so much 🙌🏿
Despite the comments; this is a refreshingly frank and detailed look (at least from an American perspective) on Nigerian history. I will check out more of your material as I hope to learn if just to engage in more things set in Africa.
Thank you and keep up your work.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice, unfortunately I can barely understand what the brother is saying.
Greetings from Brazil.
You Will only understand if it was your history.
I understood every word the man said. Though glasses are hypnotizing. Good clip.
I'm African American and Cape Verdean American. Through my dad's side of the family I found out that we still have cousins on the continent, and they are all Fulani. My maternal side of the family I found out I have a few cousins who are all Igbo so far. The family keeps growing as more people take DNA tests. I'm proud to have descended from these people in part.
First, I’ve been waiting for a video about the Sokoto Caliphate ✊🏿🖤 I’m curious is there any literature from the Sokoto Caliphate? Like the Tarikh al Sudan for the Songhai.
My brother we need to leave Islam
Kairaba Musa Sukai yes their are several manuscripts that were made that you will find in Kano and sokoto written in ajami many are pens some are laws etc
@@shockhouser3171 Yes major slave traders of black people
@Afro Football but Islamic nations then weren't spiritually pure. They killed and forced people to join their religion or live their lives as slaves
@@shockhouser3171 For what?
Good video, I wanted to learn more about African history.
I'm proud of being a fulani
This video needs english subtitle for non-native english viewer who interested in Nigeria history
Loubna Ibn Qurtuba I’m a non English speaker and I perfectly understand what he is saying.
@@rolandorodriguez4504 Unfortunately, My English listening and speaking skill is so terrible.
just use automatic generation of subtitles or something
You can find details in the book called THE MAKING OF NIGERIA,
Good job👍
Do a video of Tiv history
Great work! Much love from Germany
Great content! Love it
Appreciate it!
“Islamic change” no clearly it was forced religion. Also, the Europeans and Islamic slavery was the same. Hence them thinking you can always be a slave. The Islamics were worst than the European slavery. You were bias on this video. I don’t if it is the current climate or your religious loyalty.
Fadesewa Iwalewa the Hausa states where already Muslim for at least 100 yrs prior
@Horror Genes as per the narrator the way slave were treated could be trace back to the first Islamic erra that you can't distinguish between slave and their masters and they rose to the highest political position without any discrimination.
@samyajyoti de If your blood is black, you may need to see a doctor
@@pidginlovers From the Uthman Dan Fodio story itself, they still allowed and had significant Traditional worship until the Fulani made it their job to extinguish that.
Mohammed They were castrated
Hi guys
Fulani trickly conquered Hausas and other using Islam as a venue
@@shahidharis8632 no it was not
@@shahidharis8632 lol
You really missed it
Agreed . Shekau could have been venerated as a great Islamic ruler if he was victorious!
