    Fuck me those Chevys handled those corners at speed. I love how 50s, 60s and 70s cars always have the back end sway out after turning at speed and drift slightly, it's so satisfying and looks awesome.

    The police car was a 1964 Belair and the vehicle he was chasing was a 1962 Impala.

      @@Myfootage Came w 3 different 409's that year. The L31 and L33 and L80, and they ranged anywhere from 380-425 horsepower! a 409 powerd car with the 340 horse motor ran a 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and a 15.2 in 1/4 mile! and topped out at 124 Mph.. Ironically the 400 Horsepower car ran a 15.3, thus bias ply tires/no traction

    That 1964 Chevy Biscayne patrol car had a 409 engine as indicated by the fender emblem. Look for the flagged V emblem on the drivers side front fender, just above it are the numerals 409.

      but, it make short work of wiping up spills in the kitchen.

      My cousin had a white 62' with the bubble back window, white steel rims and baby moons. It was awesome. Took all I had to depress that clutch pedal. 409 Wedge.

      amarsbarr Lots of cars from the 50's and 60's could easily hit 125 mph or faster. That was the dawn of the "Muscle Car" era.

      In the original 'Smokey and the Bandit' a Dodge Monaco cop car (with 2 headlights) morphed into a Pontiac Grand Am (with 4 headlights) mid-chase as Pontiac supplied the cars in that film!

      I own a 1964 Impala SS with a 327, it's my daily driver, it's got a rust bubble here n there with a scratch or two, but it looks good and I drive it everywhere, its my only car and I love it

    The car that is being chased is a 1964 Chevy SS Impala with a 409 engine Cop car striped down Chevy with an 409 HD engine .

    What I thought was cool was the factory tach on the dash of the cop car.This was in Kansas so those Shoebox cop cars had 327 ,325horse Corvette engines.Back in the when that meant something.

    Can anybody tell me what color the police lights on the roof of Topeka PD’s cars were back then? I can’t tell by the black and white video if those police lights are red or blue.

    Even in 1964 wouldn't a cop car be a Biscayne 4 door, not a Bel Air 2 door? Looks like a commercial for vintage Chevrolet! Also notice that the cops have built in tachometers a la Super Sport...

    When they were stopped, they surrendered. Not run off at random angles. Foolishness had consequences. It was better to hire a mouthpiece and make your case in court than pile up charges on the street.

    From a complete contraband search of a woman with three children in tow to a highly impressive high speed chase most likely a 409 bow-tie motor because the police don't care about how much it cost the tax payers in fuel cost... Hats off for the police dept of the 1960... Waaaaay to goooooo...
