      Just listen to what they say in the video... Being able not only to recognize different species of insects, but also to tell apart male from female based on their wing flaps? With cheap consumer-grade electronics? Really? This alone made it unrealistic.
      A fun fact - talking about infrared laser beam and showing a violet (probably supposed to be ultraviolet) one... Nope, sorry, this video is definitely not believable to me.

      Because Buzzbomb actually, most CMOS chip camera sensors can 'see' infrared light. Usually it shows up in the image as a reddish purple color. You can see this for yourself with your cell phone and TV remote control. Point your camera at the diode at the front and push a button. You should see the led flash in the video, but it will be invisible if you look at it yourself.

      This was most likely impossible to make 15 years ago.
      You'd need high res high frequency ir cameras and enough computer power to handle that influx and perform image recognition. A good computer from 2010 could definitely do that, but I really doubt anything handheld had the power to do it. Costs would have been prohibitive as well (even today the cameras would probably cost a lot of money)
      But maybe nowadays it could be made ...

      Yup, but given that the whole system focuses its attention on a very specific pattern before striking (shooting down only female mosquitoes), I reckon accidents of this kind are going to be overwhelmingly unlikely.
      And also, surely we can warn the end user to shut down the device before passing its lines of defense to be safe.

      andy roswell insects survived, in the egg form just like they do now in harsh winters floods, fires. and as the seeds the regrow plants trees, flowers and so on. but you won't believe anyhow as atheists are always trying to find a way to prove your choice in this life and eternity.

  • @Ashaneen43
    @Ashaneen43 12 лет назад +7

    It depends on how long the exposure is, where the laser hit them and the power of the laser.
    If their skin is only exposed to a 100mW beam for less than a second, they would feel a small bit of warmth where the laser hit them.
    If this was a +500mW laser, they would instantly feel a very sharp pain on their skin.
    If the person gets the laser in their eye, even for a split-second, they will likely immediately suffer permanent injury to the retina. Google "hit in eye with 1W laser".

      it's about as strong as a blue laser pointer. There is no way to "weaponize" this.

  • @Elliandr

    They need to adapt this to a system you put on a pole and zaps in 360 degrees to exterminate mosquitoes selectively. The only effective products I can find kill everything which limits how often I'd use. I even have a mesh screen just big enough to only catch mosquitoes at times of the year when pollinators would be present at the expense of removing as many mosquitoes.
