Atticus’s query of why Mr. Tate and Mr. Ewell didn’t call a doctor calls into question why it is that this case has gotten this far when there’s no physical evidence-this fight is entirely based around whose subjective story is going to be believed. This reminds the reader that this case is truly about racism and whether the jury will succumb to it-it’s not about actually giving Tom Robinson the chance to make his case and prove that he didn’t do it. Something I learned in this chapter is that Scout compares Mr. Ewell to a rooster because he has a thin, pointy noses and he stands like a rooster. Mr. Ewell lives behind the towns dump. Mr. Ewell explain his version of what happened with Mayella. Mr.Ewell said that he heard Mayella screaming, so he ran to the house. When he looked in the window, he saw Tom Robinson raping her. Mr. Ewell said he was running to try and get in the house but Tom Robinson was already running out the front door. Then he went to get the sheriff. That’s what I learned in this chapter.
