I don't think anyone is giving the actor that plays ben his due. Did you see the look on his face when they had to leave the rest of humanity behind. It was priceless! Pure remorse of what they had to due.
Don't forget, he's forcing a mother (and the woman he loves) to leave her child behind to die. In almost any other context, he'd be one of the most vile villains there is.

I thought that it was just a pseudonym Melanie used to run the company since so few people actually knew Wilford personally and Bennett called her Mr. Wilford at the beginning of the show. Lowkey thought maybe Alexandra was the love child of Melanie and Wilford since he brought her along, but Alex has never addressed him as her dad even though he did raise her.
@Lachlan Watkins There was a call back to that scene at the very end of the season 1 finale when the W over the door connecting the tail to Big Alice rotated 180 degrees as it was unlocked.
He may be a bad man but you can’t help but feel sorry for him because he was left behind. It was his train and he trusted Melanie to wait for him but she left him out there to die.
This was such a great scene. The decision to either save what is left of humanity or leave those that you love behind. I honestly don't know what I would do if I were in Melanie's shoes, I'm not even sure I would leave the survivors (Tailies) behind or not either. It also makes me think of what happened to the people that were locked out of the train and were left behind, to be honest I think there is a lot of possibilities in terms of story in this series, but this is just my opinion.
When I saw them leaving without wilford because I watched that episode I was like U GO MELANIE! But when I saw in order to steal Snowpiercer they had leave Melanie's family I almost cried😢😢😢😭😭

I respect Melanie so much for choosing to save humanity, also... SPOILER I love the breathing sound affect added when Ben was talking about saving humanity, the same sound was used when Ruth said Melanie was still alive. The breathing sounds the same as when Melanie is in the suit outside. I think it means she's still alive and this constant sound of breathing is the only thing she can hear while surviving by herself after being abandoned.
Ironically, stealing the train probably saved Alex's life. Wilford was ready and willing to leave. By stranding him, she forced Wilford to look for any advantage he could, when he activated Big Alice. And waiting/finding Alex would have been a vital part of that.
She had no choice. Wilford was a controlling, uncaring, and greedy individual who created Snowpiercer for the soul purpose of avoiding apocalyptic winter along with other rich people while leaving the rest of humanity behind to die.
Mr Wilson is a Careless and selfish Individual he never cared about Humanity on the Train, Melanie looked into the Survival for the Human Race in the Last Settlement that might survive the Freeze with Mr Wilson in charge of Snowpiercer the Train would fall apart in a year.
Was melanie leading the train thát bad tho? Yes for the people in the tail. They should have all gotten to a third class-like state. Proper food,proper bed etc. But for the rest.. under melanie her leadership, the train went fine for 7 years( except for ppl in the tail) Once they took over it was constantly war,battles,... the whole train was a mess

Such a great episode and acting by Jennifer. So far season 2 is so much better than the first.
