    I agree, however I tend to look at these ETFs differently. I think of it as a way to purchase the asset within accounts where I can't access Bitcoin directly. Whether that be a 401k or Roth IRA what have you... I don't think of it as a replacement for actually buying Bitcoin when you have cash to purchase it directly.

      exactly the tax advantage in a roth IRA is huge for bitcoin. That being said Ill never hodl with an ETF its more of a trading platform.

    Is there a better way to hold bitcoin in retirement funds?
    With all due respect to you, Fidelity, Blackrock and Coinbase are not FTX, and investment into those EFTs is not more risky than investing into MSFT or VOO.

    I wasn't aware that they weren't holding their own keys for the backing of the ETF's other that than being news to me, I didn't disagree with anything you said. Over the past 7 years. I've collected as much bitcoin/crypto as I am willing to purchase with my liquid funds. I am, however investing in the ETF with money that I am contributing to a ROTH IRA. Even if it doesn't perform as well as holding physical bitcoin, I do believe it will well outperform the stock market and that I will see better gains over these first couple of years at the very least. Unlike my cold storage, I'll be more willing to exchange for assest I feel may dip less than Bitcoin during those times. I think it's a decent play with the ROTH personally. I can always sell back to buy the S&P like I had it beforehand. I'll get more conservative closer to retirement. Still got 25+years....

    The ETF is just a way to onboard for beginners. It's fine . Not a step backwards because it is a step in institutions investing as well. That will also calm down the volatility. How else would we drive price up ? Bitcoin is for anyone to have purchase and hold . It's a store of value , not a replacement for the dollar. I would only stick with the ETFs that the provider actually has the coins though. Some of the other ones are questionable.

    As always, if you know what you're doing it's alright. These ETFs are used in tax deferred/sheltered account to get exposure. 0.25% MER is dirt cheap too. Even in regular margin account, trading these ETFs is better than sending coin to exchange, trading and withdrawing back to hardware wallet.

    The number of crypto coins generated is static to limit the number of valid keys within the total keys space(less chance for a random key generator to hit a valid key).
    Which means each bitcoin keys could be shared by multiple exchanges or etf. If you don’t own or manage the keys directly, what are you buying?
    It is a speculative investment that that has no physical assets.
    If you can’t convert the bitcoin assets back into dollars before the collapse, then you’re screwed.

    Hi Colin, we have had spot BTC and ETH etfs up here in Canada for a while now. Ours actually hold the underlying asset in cold storage, however, yes a 1% MER to go with it. I used it lately to buy BTC when nobody wanted it and sold the day these ETFS were announced, reminds me of when Marijuana was legalized here in Canada, big sell the news event. Bottom line, great for traders bad for long term holders.

    Bitcoin needs to find a use case, if countries like Argentina and Turkey, etc., with very high inflation, and wanting to avoid the US sanctions possible because they use $’s switch to bitcoin as currency, they can be free from that concern. Just thinking out loud here, yes the etf’s are inefficient, but the fees are lower.

  • @yawningdoodle
    @yawningdoodle 3 месяца назад

    Agreed. Fidelity is cold storage their BTC. And I would think when it drops in price, it wont be a surprise to them. They'll buy more. Also, by law you can only physically possess a small about of gold. That's the governments way of keeping us from dumping the worthless dollar. You basically have to own shares of something gold-ish to own very much of it.

    I found this video while searching...... Cause I noticed that today BTC is up, but ARKB is down. That means that these etfs don't give you exposure to BTC as if you own BTC, or it's not the type of exposure that you get on gold when you buy GLD, or the type of exposure that you get on the SP500 when you buy SPY. Am I wrong?

    • @torahislife

      What's not to like? The ETFs will likely do more to popularize BTC, educate the masses, and increase demand for BTC than any event to date. Satoshi's vision depends on that and the ETFs in no way diminish it - quite the opposite. The ETFs are merely a proxy for BTC and in my opinion, the smart ones are accumulating BTC in their wallets right now with every dip

    ETF’s are a sideshow. If people want to go that route, c’est la vie. No etf, person, corporation, or country can ever stop the fundamentals of Bitcoin. Buy Bitcoin, hold in your own wallet and wait. Bitcoin will continue to hold its value and grow as it halves every 4 years.
