Proffesor Skye, as a Dominican man I would really enjoy to have further discussions with you about DR, our relationship with Haiti & things of that matter.
I wouldn't compare him to Pun. Nack doesn't really flow when he raps. Just sounds like he says a bunch of words that rhyme. But, the beats he raps on are dope! Nacksaw Jim Duggan album is fire
I would say that Nack (and Divino) have always had a deeply experimental edge that sets them apart from others in the "coke rap" camp. Nack seems to excel over more abstract and dissonant productions, so I would guess that alot of the "weirdness" of the album comes from WSG trying to engage with Nacks already established universe. I like that West blends that with the signature Griselda grimey and loop based tracks so it maintains the feeling of a classic Griselda project, while also being something very new. Salute!
The experimental nature of their music comes from Divino but Nack quickly caught on to what he was doing, he mentions it right after that “Al.Divino taught me how to rap” quote thst everyone talks abt
I would agree King, but can Nack really be fly? I'm sorry but I've never seen him with an expensive messenger bag like the Big Homie Wess. And if he did wear one it would look a bit like putting a rubber band on a boiled and peeled egg, nah mean? I mean, I like the music but I'm more into it when they product is presented like the Big Homie Wess!!! Like those thigh high boots made out of road kill and some white stockings and AT LEAST one brand like Chanel or Fenti, nah mean? It's 2023 we've moved on from masculinity , that's the only thing we NOT bringing back from the 90's nah mean??? Big Griselda we in here live from the streetz.
This is the review that is literally the PERFECT description of how I feel about this album. Professor, I think I stumbled upon your videos after a review of some of Mach-Hommy's work and I've been a fan of you ever since. And you live in Rochester which is as close as you can get city wise from Buffalo, so that further made me biased to your reviews. Keep up the amazing work 🙌🏿
Professor I'm so happy!! I was scared you were going to pass by this one. You finally reviewed the real underground of the underground. Estee Nack and Al.Divino (listen to face melt or any collab album with Estee if you wanna hear the deepest and rawest hiphop out there). And no the weirness does not come from Westside, if anything, this album has his voice less grunting and more clear.. Thanks!!
I appreciate how you break this down and how hip hop is really for everyone. An educated white guy talking about this art form and talks about the music but what's behind the music the human experience. Well said. This has to be one of the best youtube videos in a while. Yeah I noticed the big pun thing too lol Clearly im of Dominican decent, born and raised in NYC. Keep up the work, Professor. Long live the island Hispaniola 🇩🇴/🇭🇹
And, for history's sake, divino used to be down with Mach & Fahim, and they were on his Dump Gawd divino edition....but a rift got caused around him dropping edition 2 "without their approval" or something along those lines. So, their "griselda" roots go way back. Divino and Starker also did the art for Peace Fly God, which goes back thru divino and WSG's history. So. This shit was a long time in the making, love the reviews professor!
16:19 It’s definitely an ode to legendary Dominican jazz musicianship with the 5/4 meter of the music. Literally NOBODY is doing that. Estee Nack is a GAWD. 24:27 This is a continual popularly referenced song in Dominican music / Pop music. I believe the last few times it was “popular” was with DJ Laz & Danny D’s, “Mami El Negro” in the 1990’s and another decade or so later repopularized/interpolated by Pitbull in the 2000’s with “The Anthem” ft. Lil’ Jon. The theme and lyrics of the original, “El Africano” by Wilfrido Vargas have always been a source of controversy due to its dark yet somewhat accepted content. 36:52 Yes. “Blood” (Red) gang members usually omit “C”’s in their vocabulary and replace them with a “B”. The opposite can be said for “Crip” (Blue) gang members with the letters “B” omitted because of its affiliation with “bloods” and in some “crip” gangs, the letter “K” because of its relation to the phrase “Crip Killa”.
@@AIFAMMA “Mom, the black guy is rabid - he wants to dance with me and tell my father. Mom, I lay quietly in bed, tucked in from head to toe and the black guy comes and uncovers me. Mom, what does the black guy want?” That is the song translated to English.
Nack might be the most skilled rapper of the last 7/8 years outside of Mach and Roc, I think the beat selection could have been a bit better but it’s impressive to see a rapper that can rock every sort of backdrop thrown at him
Glad that you're getting into Nack-mandela! Looking forward to the album - so far I've only heard the track with WSG and love it... there's a TON of stuff he's put out in recent years, both solo, with al.divino and others. He's a great addition to the Griselda crew. His work is even stranger than your usual GxFR stuff. The first _Triple Black Diamonds_ with al.divino is a great start cause it's relatively straight forward boom-bap. The recent _Part 2_ shows how far out they've gone. The (other) recent album with V Don is amazing. _Abrakadabra Alakazam_ is an underground classic!! PS. I love your whole future plans for Tucker Carlson, Griselda-related... AND OTHERWISE! 🤣🤦♂️
My usual Post-post script: Yes, America is great _because_ of immigration... not despite it! We got alotta ⚾️🏀⚽️🏈🏐🎱🥎 to wanna close the border now that we're all here, stole the country, destroyed the natives, etc etc etc etc etc.... love the scene from _The Sopranos_ when Tony & Carm sit around the table with his sis & brother in law, talking about the ways their ancestors got into the country - some of them illegally, but "they should build a wall now, boy, I'm tellin' ya!" 🤣🙄🤦♂️SMH PPPS. The flow that Nack uses in the song is easier to hear in a song called “Piropi”. Where Angeldior raps in the cadence and vocal inflections that Nack used in the hook.

The first time I heard Estee Nack was on Banana Yacht by Westside Gunn off HWH7, which was also my first Griselda project. That track was such a perfect intro to his music. The lack of drums, the loops, the bars, the cavernous adlibs, I remember thinking “I need to check this guy out after I listen to more Gunn.” At the time, I did not know just how long it would take to listen to even a fraction of all the music WSG puts out. The opener on this track was a perfect re-introduction to Estee Nack. The production is just insane. No drums, absolutely minimal sample, just pure in-your-face rapping. The production is such a great match for his style. I’ve been bumping this for like a week straight.
Nack might be older...but he got a link to the youth through divino, which he openly admits. Nack and the tragic allies been major since back in the wu disciples days. And Nack's OG is kingasiatic allah...do your research on who HE is and was. And gunn matched the beats to nack's personality, they feel right at home on a nack project....triple black diamonds, veda, destiny, I wanna fxck Carmen Hayes, etc...
Also you’re right about the replacing C with B, it’s a thing for Bloods, Although it is speculated weather Gunn is just doing it for vibes or is actually a blood, Hus Kingpin refuted it on his diss track against him & Mach in response to Easter Gunnday 4 called Easter Wave Night Funnily enough Hus is the reason Griselda and Mach exist in the form they do now
I honestly found that I liked BRAP more than I liked nacksaw and that has a lot to do with the versatility there was on V dons album, nacksaw all sounds too similar and doesn’t let the wings on this record fully expand and go further! BRAP had so many styles and all of nacksaw was just dusty boom bap drums or drumless and it just got repetitive by the end of the record, was a solid attempt nonetheless
And....you didn't really touch on the flow the Lynn, 23 incredible, minimansion affiliates have been perfecting...the splash. When you talked about him just rhyming syllables...it's like jazz skat type shit, nack has likened his flows to the percussion of a song. Divino, hidden character, mellos, datkidbravo, neyusi loe, bori rock....they got a massive catalogue amongst themselves, flows very unique to their clique

AVAA he’s talkin heroin when he says purina. This is one of the best projects to ever come out of the Griselda camp. Syphilis would be a fitting catch for Tucker Carlson. Utter descent into lunacy and self soiling.
His run-on flow and dynamism does give me a similar feeling to pun. If you listen to the track Pecorino Romano from Al.Divino’s first solo album then you can see it feels like both of them took different pieces from his style and added their own parts to it
I gotta disagree that the crack epidemic was an American failure. It was an American success, exactly what America wanted from and for the inner cities and the power dynamics of factions in the Central American political theater at the time it was unleashed. What they didn’t and couldn’t predict was the actors that would rise and fall in that region years after and poor Sarah from the ladies golf team and student govenment’s unfortunate descent into addiction and prostitution.
Estee Nack is ridiculously underrated
Thanks for talking about Nackman Coltrane
Proffesor Skye, as a Dominican man I would really enjoy to have further discussions with you about DR, our relationship with Haiti & things of that matter.
