They say: The better the ambient sounds fit the less you notice them. I never really notice much of the ambient sounds in Blizzard games, because they fit perfectly. You are doing a great job, sound team :D
U sure that's Zerglings ?, pretty sure the lower pitch is the Ultralisk (or Guardian sound) lol The original Lings are awesome (IDK wtf that might be though :D)
audio in games and movies is so important. When it is natural and fits we often don't notice it! and when that happens, its means the sound engineers have done their job! very cool look behind the scenes at the foley artists.
I love theese videos! They really give a diffrent perspective to what most people have towards sound effects. It's a part that feels so natural you can't really appreciate it if you don't see videos like this. Keep up the amazing work, HotS sound team! PS. Cute pig :D
This is awesoem to se! Alot of people don't know how hard it is to make sounds and find the right source, love that you show this to people so they dont thake the sound design for granted =D
I really love these videos. It makes you apreciate things that you ussually overlook. After the Azmodan skin video I was expecting to see more. Thank you guys
This is very cool. One of the coolest things I always loved about Blizzard was their sound files. How they made them available for use to anyone i.e. Warcraft 2. I still love how I can watch a random program on TV and see how someone uses the Terran scream sample that seams to be all over the internet. I got a lot of respect to these guys that polish the sound effects that draw people like me in. Thank you for putting so much effort into creating something that sounds new. BTW please include more content like this on your youtube channel. This is probably the best video you guys ever put out that encases HOTS.
One of my favorite sounds is throwing a stick across a frozen, shallow pond in the dead of winter (no other sound interference). So many amazing sci fi sounds from that!
Thats awesome! Blizzard, give your sound team a huge pat on the back, cause those are some creative ways to get science fiction sounds. Love the pig too lol
The videos are great. It's such an undervalued part of game design that has such an integral part in the experience. Also I'll never be able to look at pigs or zerglings the same way again.
heck yeah! I can't wait for the day where you can pull sounds from your head because there have been sounds I've heard and sounds I've rendered in my head and I wish I could pull them out for cool UI sfx
some zerg background noises are the same ones some flood made in the halo series. funny how many similarities the flood and the zerg have... both infest other life forms. both were lead (at least for a little while) by a hive-mind controlling mass of flesh with a name ending in 'mind'. both are the most dangerous things in their galaxy, if left unchecked. I wonder what would happen if the zerg swarm fought a flood infestation...
As an audio student myself I love seeing this stuff, i could only dream to one day be apart of such awesome projects as these. Any positions open Blizzard? X-D
Design of the new maps is awesome and sound design is not an exception. All this mechanical, metallic "clings" and "clangs" really make those maps stand out. That said, I will never be able think about zergs and not to think of cute widdly pigs. ))
Sound Design:
"Yeah let's start throwing some junk around"
you'll be surprised at how sounds are made for movies and TV
The enthusiasm is strong within this one.
I should've went to school for sound design:(
yea, but look how happy he looks about it at 1:28 :D
Especially movies like king kong(2005). That one has a alot of sound recording and hard work to put up with it.
People usually underestimate value of good sound.
You are doing really good job sound guys. Keep the amazing work.
Well if the sound is so good, we wouldn't notice it, because its so natural. That's why its underappreciated.
There is really nothing more to say about the sounds ..
For sure. Sound design is one area where blizz just absolutely excels, and it's pretty underappreciated. Makes their games much richer experiences
This was really cool. It's a part of game design that often goes unnoticed. Awesome work though. :)
Pally needs more thumbs up!
Sup pally!
They could record the Pigs movement then use that data for those dumb boar mounts in WoW!
I agree with you Pally :)
Hope that Zergpig received plenty of treats for their incredible voice talent!
Zergpig? Good sir that's clearly a Porkling.
Pygalisks actually exist
"That's Porkling, Lester. Smaller type of zerg"
I think he did a poor job. Personally I'm a fan of zergpigs earlier work. He sold out man!
They say: The better the ambient sounds fit the less you notice them.
I never really notice much of the ambient sounds in Blizzard games, because they fit perfectly. You are doing a great job, sound team :D
You guys should do more behind the scenes videos like this, they're really fun and interesting.
so much this :D would love to see more as well!
Yeah they should
1:22 "Yeah, I think we can just start throwing some junk around"
Professionals at work people.
now i will always remember that zerglings are making pig sounds :D I will never forget it! xD
ikr lol
beat me to it :)
So does this make Pork rush a valid strat in Starcraft?
U sure that's Zerglings ?, pretty sure the lower pitch is the Ultralisk (or Guardian sound) lol
The original Lings are awesome (IDK wtf that might be though :D)
2:43 That pig girl is quite hot. I never knew I could say those words XD.
Thats just a happy lil pig, not a killing zerg machine
The pig got infected, now he is a killing machine. Take care
.... Now I'm a bit worried. Are we going to get purified by our protoss overlords?
Yeah... the protoss is your only chance for survive. :D
TheMaflan the pig is infested
now that's an awesome job right there, such fun and artistry all rolled into one. great behind the scenes view!
3:02 THE PIGLET IS CALLED PIGACHU?? WTF!
woah
i love watching sound design videos it always amazes me the things the sound designers use to help bring the worlds we play in alive
audio in games and movies is so important. When it is natural and fits we often don't notice it! and when that happens, its means the sound engineers have done their job! very cool look behind the scenes at the foley artists.
The pig is my new favorite voice actor xD
As a media student I really appreciate this video being made and published thank you :)
Went into this video expecting to hear some very creative sounds for the game development....came out wanting a pet pig. Well played blizzard
People will not say a single word when the sound and music is great.
But the moment sound and music are bad, they will riot.
Keep up your great work!
I'm a mixer myself and i REALLY appreciate your work! Thank you for a perfect sound experience.
I love theese videos! They really give a diffrent perspective to what most people have towards sound effects. It's a part that feels so natural you can't really appreciate it if you don't see videos like this. Keep up the amazing work, HotS sound team!
PS. Cute pig :D
This is awesoem to se! Alot of people don't know how hard it is to make sounds and find the right source, love that you show this to people so they dont thake the sound design for granted =D
this was nice thanks for posting blizz :D
Okay this is actually interesting, you almost never get to hear about how sound design is done.
New maps do look AND sound heartbreakingly beautiful as well as tear inducing! Spectacular job :)
I really love these videos. It makes you apreciate things that you ussually overlook. After the Azmodan skin video I was expecting to see more. Thank you guys
Thank you for doing another one of these! Loved the Azmodunk one and love this one too! Keep 'em coming!
This is very cool. One of the coolest things I always loved about Blizzard was their sound files. How they made them available for use to anyone i.e. Warcraft 2. As a fellow sound designer this is amazing. Thank you!
Amazing. Best studio in the world. Bravo!
One of my favorite sounds is throwing a stick across a frozen, shallow pond in the dead of winter (no other sound interference). So many amazing sci fi sounds from that!
I love the energy and enthusiasm you guys seem to have for your work. :D It's fantastic!
These types of videos really are entertaining. Hope to see more of behind the scenes!
You are so awesome Blizz.
Now I can never look at an Ultralisk again without thinking its a pig
Thats awesome! Blizzard, give your sound team a huge pat on the back, cause those are some creative ways to get science fiction sounds. Love the pig too lol
This was really fun to watch! I hope you make more of these
Guess how the Zergs will be called from now on..
The videos are great. It's such an undervalued part of game design that has such an integral part in the experience.
Also I'll never be able to look at pigs or zerglings the same way again.
love the behind the scenes bit, can be useful to those who are learning the industry
Love all this backstage videos #Blizzard ! It is great to get to know all the magic that happens behind doors

Sound designers are some of the most creative people on Earth.
Absolutely love stuff like this, it's interesting to see the parts of the game that we don't think about. Hope you release more stuff like this!
We want more videos about a sound design in Blizzard!
Happy Pig is the voice actor of Zergling!
so if you want a zerg buy a litle pig and make him happy
I love how the upload videos like this, they tend to be very interesting to watch :)
so kerrigan is a farm lady after all, because she summon a piglist?
Great sound engineering ! You guys can make anything from nothing literally ! GJ !
So cool to see how it's made. Thanks for sharing!
dude! I have been playing Statecraft for so many years and I never know the sound of Ultralisks so majestic could be the sound of the pig 🐷
Need a pig ultralisk skin now. Really bad.
Really interesting to see an insight on the sound effects.
These videos are so cool!
... I won't look at zerglings the same again.
They are all happy little pigs now. KappaRoss

Much respect for u guys!
I love this video, we NEED more !
Now i want to know where they get the sounds for WoW. Especially with all the spells.
They use actual wizards for those.
Zerg will remind me pigs now gg
Blizzard looks so fun! Keep it up!
This is why I want to work at Blizzard! It's such passion!
Awesome content, love to see what is going on behind the scene.
Can we have more behind the voice actors videos, please? The Travis Willingham one was great.
heck yeah! I can't wait for the day where you can pull sounds from your head because there have been sounds I've heard and sounds I've rendered in my head and I wish I could pull them out for cool UI sfx
You cannot un-hear the piglings after this.

A video about sound design and the importance of good sound effects . . . mixed in mono. Good job, guys. *slow clap*
this is so cool
I love StarCraft 2
Loving this videos
I just want the sound for whenever you kill a hero. That Pbliiing is so satisfying.
Such an interesting video. I'd definitely love to see some more of the lesser recognized elements of game design.
"It's all about respecting the source," then
"Yeah let's start throwing some junk around!"
Sound desigers, or foley artists whatever you want to call them, have the coolest jobs!
Would definitely like to see more behind the scenes videos.
some zerg background noises are the same ones some flood made in the halo series. funny how many similarities the flood and the zerg have... both infest other life forms. both were lead (at least for a little while) by a hive-mind controlling mass of flesh with a name ending in 'mind'. both are the most dangerous things in their galaxy, if left unchecked. I wonder what would happen if the zerg swarm fought a flood infestation...
*ZERG PIGS* XD
nice that pig is the zergs
*ZERG PIG RUSH!*
omg that's amazing, I'll never hear a dying zerg without seeing that pig!
Now i have to live with a fact that ultralisk was practically voiced by a pig
As an audio student myself I love seeing this stuff, i could only dream to one day be apart of such awesome projects as these. Any positions open Blizzard? X-D
pls we need more videos like this
These guys are my heroes lol
Millions of fans want to see the making of the StarCraft 1 terran academy noise!
Loving that a pig was used for zerg sounds.
I want a pig D:
sweet video, great job!
Nice! Don't know why YT recommended this now, but I'm not even mad
What have I witnessed
Design of the new maps is awesome and sound design is not an exception. All this mechanical, metallic "clings" and "clangs" really make those maps stand out.
That said, I will never be able think about zergs and not to think of cute widdly pigs. ))
That Bacon is so cute!

ironically, the audio feels kind of blown in this video :( great content regardless!
BEST WORK EVER :D
