I think one of the reasons this film remains popular is that it is very much about male friendship, loyalty, and physical courage in the face of a common deadly threat. Anyone who has been in combat will certainly understand, but I think there is some distant ancestral memory that lives in the hearts of all men that allows them to be touched by this story.
Any honorable righteous man will appreciate feats of honor and valor, where ever they may be, story or real events. This is one of my top 5 favourite movies, part of because its tied to my childhood, best years.

***** The Arab is the only one to say "forever" (Because he got it wrong) The Norse do not, nothing in Norse mythology is eternal, not even Odin+Thor, not even Valhalla, everything is destroyed during Ragnarok, nothing is safe, dead or alive.
When the End Time come, Thor will die in his struggle with Wyrm of Midgard, Sun blacken by the Wolf of Loki and Odin himself will perish. Everything will be destroyed and cleansed yet the world will reborn, and new gods will take the seats to rule the reborn human race. In Norse we mostly encounter "reborn" then "eternal life" like Einerherjars who are warriors slain in battle, yet reborn i Valhalla. Though they are dying every day just to rise from the dead, in time of feast (by nightfall) and then to die again. Like the boar whom they eat... (even the giants slain earlier will be reborned when the Ragnarok comes! it will be like: -But.. You were dead! I killed you! - Lol, nope. And so...)etc., etc.
+cerbin There are those who would argue that Fimbulwinter hast happened. There are some who say the Gjallerhorn hast sounded. I say Odinn sits upon his throne and bares witness to the Universe. The Ragnorok has yet to come.
A legjobb film. Itt még nem kotelezték őket, hogy legyenek a filmben feketék és ázsiai népek. Hagyták még, hogy valóságot adja vissza az északiak hősi legendái. Örök kedvenc.
Very entertaining and under-rated movie based on a great novel called Eaters of the Dead, written by Michael Crichton, which I highly recommend. Crichton wanted to popularize the story of Beowulf, so he used a story of Ibn Fadlan, who traveled from Bagdad, the City of Peace, to the lands of Norseman more than 1000 years ago. So, don't hesitate and go watch the movie and read the book, its worth your time!
Double up on this. I just read Eaters of the Dead on an Alaska camping trip last spring. It was a great read, a relatively short novel, and incredibly well written for what it portrays. Crichton's character voice is so well planned and written that you can practically hear Fadlan's voice in your head as he logs the story in his "historic record." Some of the strongest character voicing I've read in a long time.
Totally underrated movie! Absolutely fantastic, with great acting and story! But most of all, it had the perfect musical score done by one of the all-time greats, Mr. Jerry Goldsmith, may he rest in peace!
A Great underrated movie with a truly brilliant soundtrack. Sadly, it seems mass audiences want to see shitty superhero movies, soulless CGI porn, dull cliché ridden horrors and low-wit, toilet humour comedies. Movies which embody honour, sacrifice and the warrior spirit don't seem to do too well nowadays. I love this movie and it never gets old.
smackedinthejaw I agree. I personally love this movie, though even I will admit that the actual story is a little thin, and they could have done more with it, but the acting was solid, the action excellent, and I love the score. This movie is my ultimate guilty pleasure.
Arrived to Camp Lejuene, NC as a Navy Corpsman in 2000 a guy had a DVD of this playing in the lounge every person walked by came in to watch. Started with 3 then 2 platoons. And we watched it over 7 times in a row. 💪🏾🤙🏾❤️💯👍🏾👍🏾
+Atanas Stoyanov nor shall we ever again if they ever did this movie again it would be all CGI . the time of epic films like this is past look how bad the new hobbit movies turned out that is the future of cinema .
+Atanas Stoyanov of course you don't... In this movie muslim was shown as a good person, not a coward who will stab you in your back, or a terrorist...
Always good to see someone so profoundly dumb, they don't even realise what racist crap they are oozing out. It is apparent you don't know anything about Islam nor any other religious book, else you would be more careful pointing at the Koran, while Tora and Bible are not better in the slightest. As far as I recall the majority of all religions manage to live peacefully and without racist sentiments. This so-called backwards culture (tell me more of the culture, let's see how much your depraved mind can piece together) has been superior to the that of "the West" for centuries, but then something called Colonialism kicked in. Probably not a term you are familiar with either. Yeah, I am sure you would like to see all those people die, because, you know, they are just such a blight on your daily life, makes it hard for you to cope with it. I can understand that, lowly creature. Afaik crime and unrest are not an issue anywhere and are not a phenomenon caused by refugees, but I am sure you have some valid numbers to prove me wrong. Back to your false accusations about Islam; No where in the Koran is any such thing written, not even remotely and if you knew the history of islamic countries, like Egypt, you might realise that woman were just as free as men. But then again Colonialism had its far reaching consequences. If the west would switch historical roles with the muslim countries we would now be talking about a supposedly radical christianity. The rape accusation then is just good for laughter, you pulled that fact straight out of your arse, didn't you? Just repeat until you believe it. The fact that you read about one incident and project it onto a whole people just shows what kind of person you are: the kind that needs some enemy stereotype to throw all their hate at which has been building up in their miserable life.
TheSharpeful "I find your backwards culture barbaric in various aspects and I wish you fuckers would stay in your own countries" Hmm looks pretty much like racism in its purest form to me. The generalisation of a different people which you try to sum up as one and spilling hateful lies about them. Illiteracy is your one strength. If "lol" is your answer to colonialism than you deserve to be swarmed by refugees, although those people are way better than those retards were who came to exploit. You are showing me those numbers and I have no idea what you mean to tell me. Religion has been shifting ever since its idea was vaguely conceivable. Egypt used to have a different religion before christianity if I recall correctly, as do all the other countries you named. Your argument is so absurdly invalid it just makes me laugh. Besides the spread of a religion is only bad when it is enforced as a dogma. Oddly enough there were no forced conversions in any of the countries conquered by the islamic arabs. And the Jews, they were glad to be rid of christian oppression. In many of the conquered countries which became Muslim over the course of a long period of time great civilisations emerged, most notably Umayyad Spain and Abbasid Mesopotamia. This development is in certain countries (by no means the majority) is sad, yet is a recent development and a radicalisation which ultimately goes back to colonialism (don't all problems of muslim countries today originate there?). Besides to call this the culture just shows your ignorance. You pick one bad development in a few hand-picked countries and take it as representative of all the culture and all muslim worldwide. And you think its due to their ethic background or religion? Grow up kid, this development is due only to lack of perspective, work, integration, non-existent income. Crime will dominate everyones life, who is trapped in such circumstances, especially when from a young age. Add to that, that there are already existing criminal syndicates who exploit them for their own ends. I am not sure how far your ignorance reaches, but you have some severe lack of socio-economic understanding. By the way numbers are nice, but sources are better. Please link where you got your information from so I can finally start taking you a bit more serious. Hah awesome, you take a book written by some radicalised imam ( I am sure I can find the same thing for christianity, especially in the USA) and try portray it as the book which every Muslim is living by on the word. Absolutely fascinating. Great, you ripped out some passages from the Quran, don't even have a basic understanding of it and show it around. Good job, odd that so many Muslims manage to live by the book peacefully and without forcing it on anyone. Must be my imagination though, my years living there surely have no meaning. As said before, the same can be done with Bible and Tora easily. All those religious books were written centuries ago and no longer fit with a modern mindset. It is pointless trying to project them on todays society. Besides I am an atheist, so I despise all religions, but your racist crap goes way beyond illiterate calumny of a whole religious community.
I love this movie since i was a little girl xD i love each of the characters ! They are amazing ! This movie should had more attention when it came out ...not a lot of people know it . I also love soundtracks and this one is amazing !!
+marzena gwizdala I agree. :) I 've seen this movie many times on TV, maybe 6 times :) Though I know that some bits of costumes seem very funny on vikings from 10 century - esp those corslets or breastplates looking like they were from 15 century :)
+Maria C This movie is based on book by (if I remember correctly?) M.Chrichton. I did not read this. But the book was losely based on "Beowulf". And this story is one of my favourite northern tales. :)
An epic underrated classic , I still watch this movie till this day and enjoy it like the first time I saw it . Its sad that movie makers cant make something as great as this anymore .
Thank you all for 2.000.000 views and all that comments and likes and all that historical facts you are sharing. Absolutely cool! :) You are the best!!
Jamayr Productions In my opinion, the Sound / Quality of the Music made for a film can many times make or break a movie. Take for instance the original ALIEN movie; the music made for that classic film was a perfect match and literally brought that movie to life as well as kept the viewers on the edge of their seats ie "scared the cr*p out of them".
"He aquí que veo a mi padre, he aquí que veo a mi madre, a mis hermanas y mis hermanos. He aquí que veo el linaje de mi pueblo hasta sus principios. Y he aquí que me llaman, me piden que ocupe mi lugar entre ellos, en los atrios de Valhalla, el lugar donde viven los valientes para siempre."
What I love about this movie is that Ahmed is not on par with them in any way at the start. He's no warrior, no fighter. He's alien and weaker than them, less experienced. Yet they never treat him as such. He is their brother all the way. they teach him, protect him and always respect him. I love that particular part about this story.
I watched this movie - or a large part of it, on my first night couchsurfing. It was a favorite of my very kind host. I spent three days in Haugesund, a lovely town on the southwestern coast of Norway. Love Norway and Norwegians: dere er de beste!
Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning! Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla! Where the brave may live forever!” ― The Northmen's Prayer.--- I admire this prayer.....
its funny, i was watching kingdom of heaven today because a friend said i might like it. and it gets to a point and music is playing softly. but no matter how soft it plays i will always recognize this song. and because of that seen i really wished i was watch the 13th warrior. such a great underrated movie
Awesome Mix! There is a lot of epic Music out there - but the Soundtrack of 13th Warrior is for me by far #1 of my List... ..these Horns and Trumpets are so incredible... ...and this Mix from you couldn't be arranged better - many Thanks for this Masterpiece! Regards & Respect from Germany
This film is highly underrated the first time I saw this movie was when I was little and I’ve loved it ever since from the music to the story and definitely that amazing prayer definitely gonna pass the knowledge of this movie down to my kids
Anytime I hear this music I regret that I was born in 20th century. It would be awesome living as a viking warrior. Jerry Goldsmith should get Oscar for this music. Unfortunately, he didn't.
Xristoforos Giannaros Anna Komnene...the Byzantine princess and polymath...something about Alexios I Komnenos saving the Byzantine Empire from certain doom, perhaps?
+Utube Junky thats because they did. only butthurt millennials deny it because they don't realize the whole process has been engineered over the years to a science to make the same formula over and over just enough to sell a lot but not enough to favor artsy experimental directions and a good mix of experimental creative decisions with cheesy awesome action. Now they just blend the most popular common denominator and put out action movies with a bit or a lot of comedy mixed in, and as little gore as possible so that they can lower the rating and sell more tickets to women and children. They wouldn't put a movie like out these days because it doesn't appeal to women and children and it doesn't have enough racial variation.
To me, the 13th Warrior, the Last of the Mohicans (1992), Troy (2004), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Kingdom of Heaven, Spartacus (1968), King Arthur, the Last Samurai, 300, Saving Private Ryan, and Apocalypto are prime examples of heroism, loyalty, valor, honor, courage, and brotherhood. Facing possible death to save another and to die well in the face of your doom. The 13th Warrior is severely UNDERRATED but that's alright, while most movies nowadays are okay, they're nothing special, this one is beyond special. It already achieved classic status. ✌️O.o
Like more than a few people with ancestors from Britain, I have Norse ancestry. There is always something that stirs in my soul when I feel the cold winds coming off the mountains, smell the pines, and see the first snows of winter. I do not think that it's a feeling which can ever really be removed from us, no matter how much we are surrounded by modern distractions.
To a very large extent the norse ancestry in britan is from present day Denmark, no pines (at that time) and no mountains... Dark swamps and deep forrests of non pine was what charactherised that part :)
@@byronsmit1959 no, they paid tribute. Odin be praised. ✌️O.o

This is truly an amazing piece, as of a movie, as of a soundtrack & melody. Very astonishing story, all the actors except for Antonio are very underrated sadly.. I would love to see the remake of this or a sequel ; Altho it may be shit, it's hard to just listen to this and watch the movie all over again, even tho I get goosebumps everytime I do watch it from the top! Shame that it didn't get much attention when it came out, and as of now even if it did it's an old movie and not many would've watched it.. One of a kind. Lo, there do I see my father!
+Marko Ružin Yeah. But i rather see a remake rather than a sequel.. i mean, whan would a sequel show us? them fighting moos? xD But yeah, i agree, give us a remake! (No hollywood crap standards tho)

+Christian Johansson True, but idk, maybe like Antonio went back to Arabia, to return not while later because North was attacked by someone.. But it would be hard because most part of the crew now is very old.. Cept for Vladimir Kulich, Antonio Banderas, Dennis Storhoi & Tony Curran.. :D It would be weird but idk I would still watch it :D
+Marko Ružin screw a remake this movie is timeless it was giving so little attention when it came out though they should just rerelease it in theaters no one will notice and it would win every award .

It also taught me that there are evils out there in the world, ready to snatch the innocent and as men we have to stay vigilant.

Sensei Vikings of Africa??? Laughing my ass of at you. You WISH they were as historically as bad ass as the vikings. If they were,we'd have heard more of them than we do. Seems you know history through your own impression . Good source,LOL
JERRALD KING GOLDSMITH
THE MAN!!!
Excellent un film incroyable et grandiose ❤️💪👏👍👽
Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother and my sisters, and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me
they bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla,
where the brave may live forever!!!

The Arab is the only one to say "forever" (Because he got it wrong)
The Norse do not, nothing in Norse mythology is eternal, not even Odin+Thor, not even Valhalla, everything is destroyed during Ragnarok, nothing is safe, dead or alive.
(even the giants slain earlier will be reborned when the Ragnarok comes! it will be like:
-But..
+Sam Smith Heill dagr! Heilir dags synir! Heil nótt og nift!

Hey, thanks for putting this together. In retrospect this project wasn't just a film, it's entire experience!
Einer meiner Lieblingsfilme 😁
Die Musik, die Story und die Atmosphäre, einfach perfekt
A legjobb film. Itt még nem kotelezték őket, hogy legyenek a filmben feketék és ázsiai népek. Hagyták még, hogy valóságot adja vissza az északiak hősi legendái. Örök kedvenc.
Underrated and very fun movie.
Truly masterpiece and one of the best movie soundtracks
The most underrated movie ever. Blockbuster.. Work of art..
Goldsmith did it again! RIP, Jerry.
People who control this world want to raise weak generations, easy to control and to wash minds
smackedinthejaw I agree. I personally love this movie, though even I will admit that the actual story is a little thin, and they could have done more with it, but the acting was solid, the action excellent, and I love the score. This movie is my ultimate guilty pleasure.
As far as the movie goes, yes. You should read eaters of the dead, which all of it is based on, such an amazing adventure :)
smackedinthejaw tru
If you like this movie, you should watch Vikings.
Loved this film since I first took a punt on it in Blockbuster waaay back when. Such a great soundtrack, great lines and a good story. :)
One of the best sound scores ever. Awesome
Arrived to Camp Lejuene, NC as a Navy Corpsman in 2000 a guy had a DVD of this playing in the lounge every person walked by came in to watch. Started with 3 then 2 platoons. And we watched it over 7 times in a row. 💪🏾🤙🏾❤️💯👍🏾👍🏾
They don't make movies like this anymore. The true art of cinema right here.
Watched this last night. Recommended by a friend. Truly, epic, fun and enjoyable movie. Need to watch this again
This is one of the best movies ever created. I dont see anything similar to it these days.
TheSharpeful
people like me? What is that supposed to mean? I am a muslim, now what? You got a problem with it?
Großartiger Film, monumental gemacht in Bild, Ton, Schauspiel, Filmmusik vom Großmeister genau getroffen. Weltklasse
Thanks for the info! I will have to read that book ! I love these type of movies ! And books too :) !
+marzena gwizdala So are u a fan of northern mythologies as I m? :) a może przejdziemy na polski bo chyba tak mi bedzie łatwiej? :)
+Tallis Keeton yes i do love them xD ! mogę się porozumiewać w języku polskim
One of the best viking movies. Sadly very underrated.
An epic underrated classic , I still watch this movie till this day and enjoy it like the first time I saw it . Its sad that movie makers cant make something as great as this anymore .
This has always been one of my fave movies
This movie is legendary and is important this world. We need this to be our culture
Watched this as a kid and I still love it so underrated
One of my all time favorites. Once you see it its embedded in your mind for forever
Thank you all for 2.000.000 views and all that comments and likes and all that historical facts you are sharing. Absolutely cool! :)
You are the best!!
Thank´s for loading...very nice^^
Check out my cover of this soundtrack on the piano. It's part of a new channel I made. Any comments or criticisms are welcome. Great video by the way!
+Jamayr Productions
thank you ..I was looking for for a long time

Peace from egypt ✊❤👍🇪🇬✌⚘😄
Such an amazing movie and soundtrack❤
I saw this movie when it first came out to theaters, bought the DVD as soon as it came out, and absolutely love the soundtrack! Gives me goosebumps!
After watching the movie 5times in 2 weeks, I'm going for a 6th! :P
Never get tired of this movie . don't forget your people .
The only part I don't like is when they spit in their food. I have to skip over that. Otherwise this is a criminally underrated movie.
Cinaet Scott It was the water for hand washing. In fact it was based off of a common exaggeration of how they rationed water in the winter.
A real master piece!
One of the films that got me falling in love with history.
I loved this movie. I read the book "Eaters of the Dead" when it first came out and was thrilled to see it made into such a ripping good movie!
Memorabile.
Amazing music as well as the film! The best I have ever heard in my life!
Lol, 5:28 plays in my head whenever I step forth from mine hearth in the winter, to battle the snow with my mighty shovel.

This movie is so awesome it's unreal.
This movie is legendary and the cast is just brilliant. They dont took millions of cash, but took place in history. Movie for all times.
"He aquí que veo a mi padre, he aquí que veo a mi madre, a mis hermanas y mis hermanos. He aquí que veo el linaje de mi pueblo hasta sus principios. Y he aquí que me llaman, me piden que ocupe mi lugar entre ellos, en los atrios de Valhalla, el lugar donde viven los valientes para siempre."
best war movie ever, thanks for sharing
Humanity needs to wake up!WE ARE ONE..OUR HOME THE EARTH!💯👌
This Movie we never forget, im sure! What a masterpice back in time!!!
Un film qui a bercé ma jeunesse :'( merci bcp pour les musiques magnifiques

― The Northmen's Prayer.---
I admire this prayer.....
its funny, i was watching kingdom of heaven today because a friend said i might like it. and it gets to a point and music is playing softly. but no matter how soft it plays i will always recognize this song. and because of that seen i really wished i was watch the 13th warrior. such a great underrated movie
good im not the only one
Rise a Knight or die a Northman
Awesome Mix! There is a lot of epic Music out there - but the Soundtrack of 13th Warrior is for me by far #1 of my List... ..these Horns and Trumpets are so incredible... ...and this Mix from you couldn't be arranged better - many Thanks for this Masterpiece! Regards & Respect from Germany
Much respect to the Viking culture.
Sincerely.
A greek.
Underrated
Among the best epic movies of all times. Dont judge it by the stupid imdb rating
Critics shmitics

One of my favorite films, and a truly great soundtrack by the late Jerry Goldsmith.
Seems too me brothers from another land are brothers speaking in a diff tounge still can come together and accomplish anything
"What happened?" "An engineering dispute." [beautiful...]
"They have been gnawed upon...." Great line! Great movie!
i think that 10-15 years ago they used to make better movies than the crap we see nowadays
+Xristoforos Giannaros they built every set in this movie and there was no cgi other then the scene with the boat on the sea near the beginning
+Xristoforos Giannaros One day the Alexiad will be made.
+Ambarenya13 whats Alexiad?
Xristoforos Giannaros
Anna Komnene...the Byzantine princess and polymath...something about Alexios I Komnenos saving the Byzantine Empire from certain doom, perhaps?
Love this movie!
over and over again all the years
Great Music!!!!! Great Movie! EPIC! I never get tired of seeing it.
R3ika
and wet winters without much snow
LeprousSoul Norway got the mountains Sweden got the pines
LeprousSoul I'm with you man.
One of my favorite movies ever.
Love the sound track you edited.
Beautiful music from an epic movie.
Best Soundtrack eeever 😍
So proud this epic song was also used in Kingdom of Heaven
Which scene??
+urolz20 when orlando bloom tells the knights to kneel and rise a knight during the siege of jerusalem
My god I thought I sounded familiar
They stoles it from us
@@byronsmit1959 no, they paid tribute.
Marko Ružin
They could be the elders of Hrothgar :)
Christian Johansson True, I would see Herger as the king for sure!
+Marko Ružin screw a remake this movie is timeless it was giving so little attention when it came out though they should just rerelease it in theaters no one will notice and it would win every award .
Excellent, exciting dream tale and music.
