Put a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) socket on your PCB so you can easily take out the uno (328p) chip. That way you have a programmer board that let's you upload to multiple MCUs easily. Pop one in, upload, remove, repeat.

I have a 20x4 LCD with I2C (PCF8574) in my project which works 100% fine when setup with the ATMega328 on the Arduino UNO, but when set on a PCB I made with the same ATMega328 (without the Arduino interface) it only shows white squares. This is the data I believe to be talkpoints: • The cables used are 10cm long breadboard jumper wires • SCL, SDA, VCC and GND connections from the ATmega328 to the LCD are OK (no mixed connections) • I tried with and without 4.7kOhm resistors from SCL to VCC, and from SDA to and got the same null result with both setups • I have a LM7805 with decoupling capacitors that feeds the IC (power source is a switching 12V 5A), and it indeed recieves 5V..... • Please can you assist in finding the finding solution.

You dont REALLY need it, but it makes your life easier. If there is no DTR pin, you'll need to push the reset button of your "arduino" at the same time you click to load the program (but this timming need to be quite precise)
there is 2x vcc and gnd on atmega chip. why they are doubled is there some reason. could use 2 of those to make it A6 and A7. so not need use D pins for A. well cant change that anymore lol lol. i mean A as address lines not analog use. so programming is easier, but yes cant change it anymore. who is designer lol
Check the atmega pin mapping at the official Arduino website and there you will get to know what atmega pin has what function in replacement of the Arduino pins
@@matthewfogel8447 And you can use 3 AA batteries instead of the 7805 and 9V battery. It will save battery life compared to using a normal Arduino Uno board.

I converted the 3.3v pin to DTR pin...
3.3v is useless for me... I use only 5v boards...

There is a reset pin , you can also attach a pushbutton to that pin .
Downloading the new program will reset it via the FTDI.

It can work better because more wires can be attached to the same pin as the project is made on breadboard or PCB.
