Dr. Berry!!! By learning from your videos and following your recommendations, I got my a1c down from 6.9 to 5.6 in about 5 months. I have lost 60 pounds so far, about half way. I really feel that you have saved my life, and taught me how to live. Thank you with all my heart. I am so grateful for you.

Based on my 5.7 A1C, 15 large underarm skin tags and chronic fatigue, I was undoubtedly pre-diabetic for 10 years, yet my doctor never seemed concerned. 11 months ago I started watching Dr Berry and other keto influencers. 3 months into keto and IF, my A1C was down to 4.7, I had lost 50 lbs and my blood pressure had dropped from 144/98 to 110/70. Now I am down a total of 111 lbs, my BP is 105/70 and all but the three largest skin tags have shrunken to nothing. Plus my joint pain is much less and I can actually walk 5-6 miles every day now. Friends and neighbors comment on my weight loss, and I try to educate them on keto, but they just shake their heads that they just don't have the "will power" to drastically cut carbs.

    • @cammieklund
      @cammieklund 2 года назад

Just would like to say that cutting all carbs and doing intermittent fasting can wreck your metabolism and a couple of years from now you start to inexplicably gain weight again and your hormones are tanked. I can't even count how many women this has happened to. And then they go to a pro-metabolic way of eating to fix it. Check out Kitty Bloomfield, Kate Deering for starters. Just be careful, don't overdo the fasting and don't cut all the carbs out. SOME women seems to be ok, but they eat a lot of fat and have clearly been able to fat adapt. This seems to be the exception to the rule. It's way more common that women don't do well long term on low carb.

Dr. Berry, I am so glad you catch the pre diabetics early. When you have diabetes, it is so much harder to reverse. I did KETO/Carnevore for two years and lost zero weight. Everyone makes you think you have no will power and are doing something wrong. My blood sugar would not go below 200 but I was only eating 0 carb meat. My liver was releasing insulin, fighting against me. I was put on Ozempic which helps my liver and pancreas be more fuctional. I am finally losing weight and keeping normal blood sugars.

I had to beg my doc for an a1c test a month into eating low carb high fat meals. They relented when I wouldn't settle for anything less. I was 5.9. My toes were becoming either sore or numb depending on the day. All joints hurt. Hungry all day. They said no problem. We'll just keep an eye on it. Eat more fruits and veg and cut out fat meats 🍖 . Dr. Berry, I have been following you now for almost a year, and in that year's time, I have lost 85 LBS, and I do feel SO MUCH BETTER! My doctor, last year, wanted to put me on insulin, because she said my sugars were just WAY TOO HIGH. How high, don't know. She never did say. But I told her NO. I am not going on insulin, I am going on KETO, and I'm going to correct this mess with eating properly. Almost a year later now, I am now mostly CARNIVORE, but I did buy a monitor to check my sugars each day, and in the beginning of last year, my sugars were around 170 in the mornings, and fell to around 145 in the afternoons after fasting all day. Now, my morning sugars are around 85 and fall to around 67 by the afternoons and I feel GREAT, even though I do eat lunch now. My lunch is usually 2 grilled chicken tenders, and that's it, other than a 20oz bottle of water with my keto drops in it. I have noticed though, that after I eat my lunch, or even my dinner at night, I get what I refer to as "sugar shakes", so I'll check my sugars just to see what in the world is happening, and my sugars spike up from 67 to 98...WHY???? WHAT AM DOING WRONG???? PLEASE HELP ME. I just need some advise from someone who KNOWS, cause God knows, my own doctor has NO CLUE.

I had many of the 13 symptoms. However, cravings & hunger 2hrs after eating has been the struggle of my adult life! Keto fixed the cravings but I didn't suspect pre-diabetes until my a1c started going up. Being pretty strict keto for 2 yrs, I started to suspect the estrogen blocker i was taking. Found some studies, confirmed with my oncologist that the med could be the culprit. Stopped the med and added Metformin. 6mos later my a1c went from 6.6 to now 6.1 and the weight is coming off! Thank you Dr. Berry for your informative videos. You keep me digging for root cause and I'm getting healthier!

The next three months, I let berries, nuts, and sweeteners back in and my A1C at the end was back up to 5.0. It is crazy how much effect this had considering I used to consume gallons of milk, orange juice, and soda pop as well as bread and cereal every week. Have the tingling/numbness in my feet, belly fat, skin tags, fatigue, etc. Began a journey to a LCHF diet, really amping it up about a month or two ago by tracking my macros.
Today was glorious! Got my blood test results and my A1C is now 5.7! Down from a high of 6.2 about a year ago, and then 6.0 back in June. All without medication, just diet/lifestyle changes. Side bonus: my asthma, which hospitalized me when I was diagnosed, is completely manageable now.
Next, reduce my weight and eventually get off HBP meds if I can.

Something I learned recently is that although I had lowered my glucose to the normal range with Keto, going off as little as two or three meals a week for a few months, while traveling, gave me an 5.8 A1C--higher than it had ever been before. I also gained 16 pounds, half of it water. If you are like me, you should probably plan on keto or very low carb for life. I am going to make clear to friends and family that I have to eat as though I am a type-two diabetic--OR BE ONE. I needed the shock of knowing I can't take a break from keto, even for a few days, and not suffer consequences--just like a diabetic would. Also I I have almost of all of the signs Dr. Berry discussed,, despite having had a perfectly normal AIC just a few months before my keto vacation, as I have had for over 4 years, on keto. This video is a wake-up call.

Went keto/Hyper carnivore and lost the weight and had my a1c down fast. GP wouldn't hear of my concerns about my a1c being high because the UK now don't class it as pre diabetes unless it's 6. My VA provider sees me once a year unless I get sick which I haven't for the last 6 years- but they never told me that I was pre-diabetic EVER until My A1C was 6.7. Then they had me see a dietician for how to eat the SAD way. Now I am my own physician, I'm doing keto but not a clean one which I need to change since this is going to be my eating lifestyle until I jump to my next adventure. I still see the VA 1x a year to stay on the rolls though and get my meds written.

Great video! I'm one of the 2 in 10 who does know he is pre-Diabetic. My fasting glucose for the last 16 or 17 years has been right at 101. But recently, it climbed to 107 even though I have been on keto and IF for almost a year. That coupled with a huge increase in my cholesterol, my doctor wanted me to get off keto because it was damaging my body. So he requested to get off of it back in July and 6 months later would re-test me and if my numbers are still the same, he'd start me on a statin for the cholesterol and something else for the PD. But I haven't done that and stayed on keto. No issues and I'm maintaining my weight loss and I feel great. But I do have the reckoning with my doctor since I can't get my atenolol refilled until I go see him. A catch 22.
Thanks for the tip Dr Berry. I ordered my A1C home kit just now.

    • @patrickdezenzio4988

And I just checked my A1C - 5.5. Not as low as I expected. Considering my fasting glucose hasn't budged either, I'm assuming my A1C pre-Keto wasn't off by much. Weird how I can go from all of that sugar and carbs to next to no sugar and carbs and barely have any affect on glucose readings. I like that I lost 30 lbs and maintained that loss over the past year, but kind of disappointed in these other numbers. I didn't have much weight to lose, but I was steadily gaining 10 lbs every year and had I stayed with the way I was eating, I'd be 210 lbs instead of 165 now. Who knows, I might have been full on Type 2 by now. But I do need to figure out this HBP and maybe get my A1C down to 5.0. I did get an advanced lipid profile last week along with the doctor's A1C (so it'll be cool to compare the kit to the lab). I should see exactly what in the LDL went up.

That does not sound right to me. If someone were to go to doctor and ask to have that test and the doctor said no. And then you go to all the trouble to order your test kit. And you go back to that doctor to show him the results and he still says not to worry about it for six months to a year. Why would you ever go back ?

I have been pre-diabetes known for over 10yrs and just crossed the line 3 months ago. So I started keto carnivore but I am also hemochromatosis so added some difficulties to over come. And have fatty liver. But my doctor been on me for all of that 10yrs. Just took my blood tests today after 3 months of 20 grams or less of carbs per day. I also have had covid at least 2x but testing for a 3rd time in a couple of minutes. I am a covid long hauler. I will update in a couple of days

When I was around 25 y/o, I visited a women's specialist clinic for a consultation about my irregular periods. The doctor mentioned just by looking at my appearance, he highly suspected I had PCOS. Based on my weight, he said I'll get diabetes when I hit 50. That didn't scare me enough to lose weight until 3 years ago. Now my PCOS is under control, my diet is mostly high protein, low GMI carbs and low fat with the occasional treat.

I’m pretty pre-pre-diabetes. Right there on the cusp. Stepping up my game before doc tries recommending metformin. She loves prescribing all “the popular medicines.”

The doctor is absolutely correct I just found out this past April my A1C is 5.7 and I have adjusted my diet by cutting back on carb intake and doing some walking exercise everyday like a half a mile walk to a 1 mile walk. I am going back to the doctor in September to have blood work done again to see if my A1C has dropped. I have also lost 12 pounds so we will see.

I have been insulin resistant for a couple decades. Started Carnivore Jan 2, 2022. Am experiencing blood sugar of 180-215 when I haven’t eaten for 14 hours, and then when I eat really fatty bacon or pork rinds my sugar drops down to a normal number like 120. Is this normal? Does it mean I am still healing? Why is my level so high when I am eating zero carbs? I searched your videos to see if you had talked about this. I stopped taking my Metformin and Glimiperide before the pandemic when I originally lost all my weight with fasting. When I gained it back during then pandemic, I did not start taking them again because I do not want to take them anymore. Metformin was found to cause cancer.
So my other question is, how bad is it that my sugar is spiking this high when I’m not eating? How much damage is that doing?
I absolutely love your videos and share them with everyone! Thank you for changing my life!

    Pre-diabetes doesn’t apply to me! I was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic in 1970.
I’ve been on almost a carnivore diet for over a year and it’s helped. I spent years as basically a type 2 diabetic who injected insulin, due to eating too much carbohydrate…

Good info Doc. I get my A1C checked every 6 months however a year ago it was 6 and six months ago it was 5.9 and pre-diabetes or diabetes was never brought up. The good news is I started Keto about 3 months ago and it has dropped to 5.6. Hopefully it will keep going down.

Been pre diabetic for 2 years and the VA just tells me it's a matter of time. I have many of these symptoms. Started modified carnivore with onions, Jalapeños, avacados, mushrooms and cucumbers as the only fruits and veggies. After 1 week, I have lost 3 lbs with little exercise and my energy level is the same all day long. I'm going to give it a month and see how it goes but it has me feeling great so far!

Sounds great but watch out on the onions because they are high in sugar. I eat them also but I do not eat many of them I did not know they are high in sugar and different types have slight different amounts of sugar . I got carb manager app and I learned a little bit more how to manage my diet better. However, everything else sounds great though that you mentioned so good luck on your journey👍

If you want to see amazing results try a 60 day carnivore challenge and eat beef, bacon, butter and eggs. You will be surprised. Watch all his videos on keto and carnivore. He has fantastic information. I am a former bread addict who was plant based for 35 years, could not get my weight down to pre pregnancy weight. 6 months as a ketovore and I weigh what I did 50 years ago in high school. Sauerkraut, dill pickles and olives are my veggie’s.

    Keto, here I come 🏃‍♀️

Dr. Berry's genius idea of donating blood 2 weeks before lab work, including Hb A1C was SPOT ON! My score was 5.2. It was 5.5 six months earlier. Great way to clean out your blood. Kinda like your own personal dialysis.

Thank you so much drBerry. I love your content. It's so clear and positive. As a dietician I'm taught differently but I know my stuff. I wanted to share an example just so weird in the logical department. I got sent to CardioVascularRiskManagement because a history with cancer. It took effort to at least get my A1C because "that wasn't necessary as glucose says it all", and insulin got the same response. Unfortunately she couldn't check the insulin box. This is The Netherlands BTW. So I eat a lot of meat and yes, also some crap, but overall largely animal based. My blood word was GREAT. TG:HDL of 1.0. Not that she looked at that. So good news. Happy. Then I told her my waist circumference. Then she said "we don't ask that anymore, because if we did that, then everyone would have a problem". So I started laughing. Well, isn't your conclusion then that everyone must lose weight!!! I told her that waist is the easiest method to measure IR, and therefore CVD-risk. So if I were to advise her, I would advise her to measure waist, look only at HDL and TG, advise her patients to lose weight, stop eating sugar, start weight training. She DID say that she would look into my suggestions though! Secretly hoping she calls me back... So yeah, just wanted to share my experience in the NL. And add that since I'm doing IF, my waist had finally dropped from 30,75 to 28,25 inch (I measure cm so don't get the whole inch thing ).

If it causes "permanent" damage then how are you reversing damage that is permanent? I dont follow a keto diet, did it a couple of times but I like my carbs too much. I have cut out most sugars from my diet though in the last few months. Dropped over 30 lbs only eliminating most of the sugar.

So you can reverse T2D but it sounds like you can't reverse damage to your nerves. Or is it possible to reverse those too . Thanks Dr. Berry
