@@mikecage86 My daughter's teacher told her that when she was in 1st grade. She told the teacher that you're wrong, they do hurt. Even at 6 years of age she recognized that fact. Name calling, screaming yelling was never allowed in our house. She did not grow up with that and she does not know how to deal with that. Thank God Her and her husband do as well. They disagree which is normal but there is no screaming, no yelling. Children need to see parents disagree but they also need to see it can be resolved with out screaming, yelling, threats and name calling. Absolutely no violence.
My parents argued and never stopped. Eventually, thankfully, got divorced. Something that sticks out to me significantly was my grandmas funeral. We came home and my parents were fighting and yelling and none of us kids (there are 7 of us) got to eat that night. They were so caught up in their selves and the arguing and the fighting that they didn’t feed their kids. That left such an impact on me and I’m sure my siblings.

When I was younger, my dad got drunk and my parents had the biggest fight I've ever seen them have. My dad pushed my mom, he's never done anything like that to her so she was extremely pissed off. I didn't hide myself away tho. I hid away my siblings and then I stood in front of the front door and forced my dad to stay. If he'd gone out like that, I doubt I'd'v ever seen him again. That night, I certainly wished that words were like little toy guns. And none of the words my dad said that night meant anything in the long run. But those situations r scarring and its been almost 10 years since it happened and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

I grew up in a seriously volatile dysfunctional home. I saw arguing, physical fighting, and endured abuse as well. I'm in therapy for PTSD and other mental health disorders to this day. I have trouble sleeping, I have night terrors, I have severe anxiety, I freak out when adults raise their voices... I'm in my 30's, don't think what you do to your kids doesn't have a lasting affect, it can change who they are completely!!
This song has been my anthem. For many years now. Because my mom and I often fight. She gets mad at me for little things and I try to stand up for myself. This song gets me through a lot of crap So thank you for reacting to this song.

I cried the first time I heard this song. My parents have fought literally my entire life. They divorced before I was even a year old. My mom consistently put me in dangerous situations for her own personal gain, and it wreaked havoc on our entire family, and especially my mental state from middle school and up through high school even after she passed away (about to start college). Every decision a parent makes will effect their child, in some way. Evidently, she never understood that. This song is very powerful, and I pray parents and soon-to-be parents hear it and really listen to the message. Also, as always, a great reaction, Billy! I personally love hearing you make connections in your own life. It makes you so much more relatable than other reactors I've seen. Just make sure BabySoCrazy understands that you love her (as you obviously do!), that sometimes even adults say the wrong things, and that it was never her fault, and she'll come to understand one day.

I can relate so much to this song, and u believe I am hearing it for the first time. I grew up in a broken household, and to be honest my family never recovered; we honestly just learned how to live with the destruction. I no without any doubts that my sister, brother, and I all still fight with scars left behind from the things we seen and experienced growing up. I feel that baby's pain. My parents fought for years while I was growing up. I'm 15 now and it still hurts my heart when I see kids go through that pain like I did. To anyone who is going through that, just know it's not your fault.
I definitely grew up in this situation. Oldest of three, I felt like it was my job to keep my siblings safe and know what was going on, so I'd sit at the top of the steps and listen to them scream at each other. They finally split when I was 8 (never got married, so no divorce THANK GOD) and even though my sister was upset about it and I acted as go between and emotional support more often than not until I moved out, I was so glad for the QUIET that I could never bring myself to be sad about it. To this day my dad still enjoys getting in screaming matches with his current girlfriend
Growing up, my mom and dad fought constantly. It really messed with me and it still does to this day. I hate conflict and when someone raises their voice I become very afraid. But it has made me know what not to do as a parent. Our daughter isn't even a year old but my husband and I have not and will not argue in front of her. If we do argue, we go into the basement where she can't hear us.
Same thing happened to me growing up, except I'm so afraid of conflict and fighting with my husband (who is an awesome guy) that I will avoid it at almost all costs. The downside is, I don't communicate when there's a problem so it goes unresolved. Its the one thing I keep running into a brick wall with when it comes to therapy. I absolutely CANNOT push past it and it frustrates me to no end because I know we need to talk.

This is my favorite of Carrie's songs. It hits very close to home. I'm lucky that my parents are still together, but growing up (and even now, as an adult), I've experienced them fighting, yelling, and felt like I was stuck in the middle, I felt confused, I felt hurt. I wish I'd had this song when I was younger so I didn't feel so alone at the time. As much as it sucks to experience, music is such a wonderful thing in its ability to bring us together and make us feel understood.
This song is a good reminder for me to watch what I say. I do everything in my power to not say anything negative about my son's father, especially since we are not together. Keep strong and show love at the end of the day and your daughter will remember that too!

I listened to this song a LOT before and while my parents got divorced. I was 12 and understood, I had heard the fights and I had my own problems with it but my sister was 7 years old, a baby and I still remember when they finally told us they were splitting holding her while she sobbed. Words hurt more than anything. Hearing my mama threaten to call the police on my mom in the middle of the night when I was 11 years old scared me more than anything else had in my life. Carrie is one of my absolute favorite artists, and this song was one that helped me through one of the hardest times in my childhood - because it says exactly what I was feeling.
this song feels very deep inside me. I grew up in a broken family, full of arguing shouting, and violence, because of my dad. My parrents still fight they are in their 70's and they still have many arguments every day all day and it still affects me . I grew up with traumas, I had a bad childhood being bullied at school and coming home to a desfunctional familly and now I'm 31 years old and I still didn't get over it and I probably never will. All I can do is avoid doing the same mistakes in my life as my parrents did. When people complain about how their parrents divorced and they are brocken about it I fell like " I wish my parrents divorced, they would have been happier now with different lifes" sometimes it's better to have divorced parrents thanparrents who hate each other and think its too late now to change their lives into something better and stop the pain.

My parents I have been married for 60 years and I remember back when I was young, there would be shouting matches that will get to the point where me and my brother and sister would just go outside or into our rooms Play a game So we didn't have to hear it. What made it really hard for me was the fact that my dad was in the service for 30 years, so when he came back from Vietnam after his third tour Oh, he was a different person For the first couple weeks He was home. As we got older we realized it wasn't That Mom and Dad were angry with each other. It was a simple case of my dad getting to know his family again. After being gone For a year or two at a time. That in itself was a lot of stress. Carrie hits the nail right on the head. I love her so much and I've seen her seven times in concert and she really has a way of making the songs come to life and reflect life. She gets better every day. Bottom line, I try never to yell in front of my kids. In fact, I try not to yell at all. Harsh words affect adults just as much as kids. I want to thank you for doing such a fantastic job. My parents did argue quiet a bit when I was young. They got better over time. Rarely fight now, 30 years later lol. But in my early years I remember seeing my dad put his fist through walls, destroy furniture. Mom throwing crap at him. Those memories never leave

this is one of carries best songs. my dad and mom constantly fought, they werent even married and fought, but it ALWAYS turned physical. Mainly because my mom would attack my dad. She tried stabbing him one time and me and my brothers had to tackle her. Then later on she started taking her addiction out on me and my little brother, she is crazy but i still love them both. My dad is doing great and has been sober almost 10 years, my mom still has her problems but hopefully one day man. shes about to be 58, hopefully she calms down.
I'm glad I'm not the only one saying this...woman can be the abuser too. My mom always starts the fights in my house. Luckily I'm the youngest so I don't have any siblings to protect. My mom is 54..but I don't think she will ever get help. There is hope, my friend's mom got help and is a such better person now

I only remember this happening to me one time. Cowering behind a curtain while my parents screamed at each other. I don't remember any of what the conversation was about, except that my dad pointed at me all of a sudden and shouted, "You see? She's scared!" I didn't really grow up in a troublesome household, but my parents did separate for a few months when I was too small to really know what was going on. If my parents argued, they always did it away from me and my siblings. A couple years ago they hit a rough patch and had a few arguments because of stress but they were able to work through it. This song always reminds me of my parents. I don’t remember them ever being happy. I remember staying up late and listening to them scream and cry at each other. Throwing things and hitting each other. It was actually a blessing when they got divorced. But their relationship was beyond repair and they couldn’t even be civil while co-parenting. My dad even refused to come to her funeral to support his 3 teenaged and grieving daughters who just lost their mom because of how bad their relationship was. Like he was unable to put his hated aside and support me and my sisters when we needed him most. That is something I will never forgive him for. This song just hits so close to home
I did feel this way. My household was a war zone in my single digits. It's actually because of what I said at 4 years old that my parents separated. I came down the stairs and told them to stop fighting and that was the last night my father spent in our house. Funny thing was they got along perfectly after that not having to live together. I had a really great childhood after that. It was split between 2 houses but there was no animosity. My father moved a couple streets away and I got to see him all the time. He let my mother have full custody and the house and everyone actually got along after that. Sometimes things just work out like that.
This song hits hard because this was my childhood to the t. I was the older sister and I would lock me and my brothers door and sit there holding him as he cried while my parents whent at it like this, but much worse. I mean things being thrown, punches included, pictures broken, all that jazz. I acted like it didn’t bother me because I was the older sibling I had to be there for my little brother... it affected me though in the long run. I got anxiety, depression and PTSD. My PTSD is the worst though, because now I get panic attacks just from people yelling, loud noises and other stuff that reminds me of growing up. Not to mention whenever my parents are around one another the anxiety follows, like they are going to break into a fight at any moment and the house is going to do down in flames. My brother also suffered, because of it he is very closed off and reserved, he hardly talks...My parents are divorced now and act like it wasn’t that bad, but at the time they were too into the fighting to even think how it affected us kids. They don’t understand the damage it caused. Besides the mental effects, it’s terrifying. It shakes you to your core. I remember growing up I was scared to go home, I WANTED to stay at school. My parents never touched us, but they got so violent with one another. Even if it wasn’t physical the words, the insults, the screaming, everything. Seeing your parents so angry with one another makes your blood run cold. That’s the thing, this, this presented in the video is one of the worst things that children can grow up with. People tend to me like, oh it’s not that bad, or others have it worse then you. Which is true, some people have it worse, but that doesn’t make it any less damaging, especially to younger children who are still developing mentally.

I’m 18 now but my parents got divorced with I was 6 to 7 years old. I would hear screaming and yelling from across my house in my bedroom for hours. so I definitely know this feeling. my father was and still is an alcoholic not so many great memories but I’ve moved past that and know it’s not my fault.

I always saw my parents arguing and I grew up in a family where my parents stayed together for the same of my sister and I which I think was one of their biggest mistakes because it just made things harder having to grow up and see them be so unhappy and not being able to do anything to fix it.
This song really hits home. My dad was an abusive alcoholic, so any time I heard him arguing with my mom, it was only a matter of time. Despite the alcohol, he never hit me, so I took on the responsibility of getting between them anytime he started hurting her. He quit drinking over a decade ago, and hasn't hurt her since, but nothing can take that back. My father used to be my hero, but he destroyed that the moment he lashed out against my mom. Everg hero is a monster to someone.
The first 5 years my mom and step-dad were pretty brutal. It all came to a head when us kids called the cops. Dad never drank whiskey again and the violence stopped. He’s passed now but the only man I’ve ever known who completely changed. He was a rare man and I miss him everyday. Our relationship was forged in fire and unbreakable at the end.
I'm 17 now and I will never forget watching my parents argue and fight. I just be sitting in the corner crying thinking it's my fault. I just wanted a family like you see on TV Where everyone got along and there was no fighting. But I realize that's not reality, especially not mine. My mom and father were always fighting when and my two older siblings were younger before they separated. I grew up seeing my father hit my mom. Not often, but I still saw it. My father had MS, and this particular kind affected his brain. I did, and still do most times feel like it was my fault he changed. I was always told by family members that it didn't start to affect him until my mom found out she was pregnant with me, and that his personality didn't do a 180 until I was born. I never knew my father before he changed, and I never really knew him growing up. I had to say goodbye to him on my 15th birthday. He had a stroke, and it pretty much killed 2/3 of his brain. He died the next day. I'm almost 20 now, and I have never been allowed the time to grieve for what I lost, and what was never, and will never be answered. I have my mom and little brother to take care of. I haven't gotten that luxury yet.

I grew up with abuse. I remember it vividly. And like my mom i was in an abusive relationship and my son witnessed his father throwing me across the room and beating me and hearing his father yelling and making me cry. I finally broke the chain and walked away before i was killed. My son remembers the abuse as well. My son now sees me happy with my husband
It is a terrible thing for a child to go through. Having been in the same situation. When my dad sat me down to to tell me that I wouldn’t be living with him anymore because they were going to divorce, he had tears rolling down his face. Inside I was relieved. My hurt was seeing him so sad

My mom is a domestic violence survivor. My childhood was chaotic and full of grief and strife. I've made efforts to never argue in front of my kids. They're 20 and 16, and hopefully capable of having healthy relationships now because they've seen healthy relationships
My parents were divorced before i was old enough to remember. I ended up raised by my grandparents. They sometimes fought but it wasn't those arguments that got to me. For me it was the words said towards me. There are still scars left and even though time has healed a lot sometimes there is still that dull ache just like you'd get from a physical wound. Being older and wise has helped me realise that my grandparents weren't entirely responsible. Poor education mixed with poor mental health can be very damaging. When I was younger, my dad got drunk and my parents had the biggest fight I've ever seen them have. My dad pushed my mom, he's never done anything like that to her so she was extremely pissed off. I didn't hide myself away tho. I hid away my siblings and then I stood in front of the front door and forced my dad to stay. If he'd gone out like that, I doubt I'd'v ever seen him again. That night, I certainly wished that words were like little toy guns. And none of the words my dad said that night meant anything in the long run. But those situations r scarring and its been almost 10 years since it happened and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

I grew up in a seriously volatile dysfunctional home. I saw arguing, physical fighting, and endured abuse as well. I'm in therapy for PTSD and other mental health disorders to this day. I have trouble sleeping, I have night terrors, I have severe anxiety, I freak out when adults raise their voices... I'm in my 30's, don't think what you do to your kids doesn't have a lasting affect, it can change who they are completely!!

I cried the first time I heard this song. My parents have fought literally my entire life. They divorced before I was even a year old. My mom consistently put me in dangerous situations for her own personal gain, and it wreaked havoc on our entire family, and especially my mental state from middle school and up through high school even after she passed away (about to start college). Every decision a parent makes will effect their child, in some way. Evidently, she never understood that. This song is very powerful, and I pray parents and soon-to-be parents hear it and really listen to the message.
Also, as always, a great reaction, Billy! I personally love hearing you make connections in your own life. It makes you so much more relatable than other reactors I've seen. I can relate so much to this song, and u believe I am hearing it for the first time. I grew up in a broken household, and to be honest my family never recovered; we honestly just learned how to live with the destruction. I no without any doubts that my sister, brother, and I all still fight with scars left behind from the things we seen and experienced growing up. Beautiful song, definitely captured the desires in a child's heart growing up in a broken home.

I definitely grew up in this situation. Oldest of three, I felt like it was my job to keep my siblings safe and know what was going on, so I'd sit at the top of the steps and listen to them scream at each other. They finally split when I was 8 (never got married, so no divorce THANK GOD) and even though my sister was upset about it and I acted as go between and emotional support more often than not until I moved out, I was so glad for the QUIET that I could never bring myself to be sad about it.
To this day my dad still enjoys getting in screaming matches with his current girlfriend
Growing up, my mom and dad fought constantly. It really messed with me and it still does to this day. I hate conflict and when someone raises their voice I become very afraid. But it has made me know what not to do as a parent. Our daughter isn't even a year old but my husband and I have not and will not argue in front of her. If we do argue, we go into the basement where she can't hear us.
Same thing happened to me growing up, except I'm so afraid of conflict and fighting with my husband (who is an awesome guy) that I will avoid it at almost all costs. The downside is, I don't communicate when there's a problem so it goes unresolved. Its the one thing I keep running into a brick wall with when it comes to therapy. I absolutely CANNOT push past it and it frustrates me to no end because I know we need to talk.
A day didnt go by where my parents weren't arguing and hitting each other. I was also abused and hit by my dad until I turned 17 and moved out. Today, I have a wonderful husband and 5 kids. I have vowed to break the curse I was raised in.

This is my favorite of Carrie's songs. It hits very close to home. I'm lucky that my parents are still together, but growing up (and even now, as an adult), I've experienced them fighting, yelling, and felt like I was stuck in the middle, I felt confused, I felt hurt. I wish I'd had this song when I was younger so I didn't feel so alone at the time. As much as it sucks to experience, music is such a wonderful thing in its ability to bring us together and make us feel understood.
This song is a good reminder for me to watch what I say. I do everything in my power to not say anything negative about my son's father, especially since we are not together. Keep strong and show love at the end of the day and your daughter will remember that too!

I listened to this song a LOT before and while my parents got divorced. I was 12 and understood, I had heard the fights and I had my own problems with it but my sister was 7 years old, a baby and I still remember when they finally told us they were splitting holding her while she sobbed. Words hurt more than anything. Hearing my mama threaten to call the police on my mom in the middle of the night when I was 11 years old scared me more than anything else had in my life.

My parrents still fight they are in their 70's and they still have many arguments every day all day and it still affects me . My parents I have been married for 60 years and I remember back when I was young, there would be shouting matches that will get to the point where me and my brother and sister would just go outside or into our rooms Play a game So we didn't have to hear it. What made it really hard for me was the fact that my dad was in the service for 30 years, so when he came back from Vietnam after his third tour Oh, he was a different person For the first couple weeks He was home. As we got older we realized it wasn't That Mom and Dad were angry with each other. It was a simple case of my dad getting to know his family again. After being gone For a year or two at a time. That in itself was a lot of stress. Carrie hits the nail right on the head. I love her so much and I've seen her seven times in concert and she really has a way of making the songs come to life and reflect life. She gets better every day. Bottom line, I try never to yell in front of my kids. In fact, I try not to yell at all. Harsh words affect adults just as much as kids. I want to thank you for doing such a fantastic job. She tried stabbing him one time and me and my brothers had to tackle her. Then later on she started taking her addiction out on me and my little brother, she is crazy but i still love them both. My dad is doing great and has been sober almost 10 years, my mom still has her problems but hopefully one day man. shes about to be 58, hopefully she calms down.

I didn't really grow up in a troublesome household, but my parents did separate for a few months when I was too small to really know what was going on. If my parents argued, they always did it away from me and my siblings. A couple years ago they hit a rough patch and had a few arguments because of stress but they were able to work through it. This song always reminds me of my parents. I don’t remember them ever being happy. I remember staying up late and listening to them scream and cry at each other. Throwing things and hitting each other. It was actually a blessing when they got divorced. But their relationship was beyond repair and they couldn’t even be civil while co-parenting. My dad even refused to come to her funeral to support his 3 teenaged and grieving daughters who just lost their mom because of how bad their relationship was. Like he was unable to put his hated aside and support me and my sisters when we needed him most. That is something I will never forgive him for. This song just hits so close to home
I did feel this way. My household was a war zone in my single digits. It's actually because of what I said at 4 years old that my parents separated. I came down the stairs and told them to stop fighting and that was the last night my father spent in our house. Funny thing was they got along perfectly after that not having to live together. I had a really great childhood after that. It was split between 2 houses but there was no animosity. My father moved a couple streets away and I got to see him all the time. He let my mother have full custody and the house and everyone actually got along after that. Sometimes things just work out like that.
This song hits hard because this was my childhood to the t. I was the older sister and I would lock me and my brothers door and sit there holding him as he cried while my parents whent at it like this, but much worse. I mean things being thrown, punches included, pictures broken, all that jazz. I acted like it didn’t bother me because I was the older sibling I had to be there for my little brother... it affected me though in the long run. I got anxiety, depression and PTSD. My PTSD is the worst though, because now I get panic attacks just from people yelling, loud noises and other stuff that reminds me of growing up. Not to mention whenever my parents are around one another the anxiety follows, like they are going to break into a fight at any moment and the house is going to do down in flames. My brother also suffered, because of it he is very closed off and reserved, he hardly talks...My parents are divorced now and act like it wasn’t that bad, but at the time they were too into the fighting to even think how it affected us kids. They don’t understand the damage it caused.
Besides the mental effects, it’s terrifying. It shakes you to your core. I remember growing up I was scared to go home, I WANTED to stay at school. My parents never touched us, but they got so violent with one another. Even if it wasn’t physical the words, the insults, the screaming, everything. Seeing your parents so angry with one another makes your blood run cold.
That’s the thing, this, this presented in the video is one of the worst things that children can grow up with. People tend to me like, oh it’s not that bad, or others have it worse then you. Which is true, some people have it worse, but that doesn’t make it any less damaging, especially to younger children who are still developing mentally.

I’m 18 now but my parents got divorced with I was 6 to 7 years old. I would hear screaming and yelling from across my house in my bedroom for hours. so I definitely know this feeling. my father was and still is an alcoholic not so many great memories but I’ve moved past that and know it’s not my fault.

My parents did this ALL MY LIFE!!! Breaking things and yelling constantly, I have two older sisters and I was the youngest boy. I still have nightmares as a 31 year old man with a wife of my own and three beautiful children. My wife and I have never done this in front of the children and I will never allow them to go through all that. When I was 11 years old I started contemplating suicide and it's ran it's course throughout my whole life.

Words are truly the most hurtful things. People can say to one another. Some words truly are and can be so hurtful. When people speak them to one another. People may forget what you say or what you did but it's very hard to forget or forgive how they made you feel. . My parents argued quite a lot when I was growing up. And I was also severely bullied their school. Because I am disabled and I was different from the other kids. It went on all the way through High School. Could never figure out why? Those kids hated me so much just because I was a little bit different from them. But through it all I did learn some valuable lessons. On how to treat people the way they deserve to be treated. .

This song really hits home. My dad was an abusive alcoholic, so any time I heard him arguing with my mom, it was only a matter of time. Despite the alcohol, he never hit me, so I took on the responsibility of getting between them anytime he started hurting her. He quit drinking over a decade ago, and hasn't hurt her since, but nothing can take that back. My father used to be my hero, but he destroyed that the moment he lashed out against my mom. Everg hero is a monster to someone.
The first 5 years my mom and step-dad were pretty brutal. It all came to a head when us kids called the cops. Dad never drank whiskey again and the violence stopped. He’s passed now but the only man I’ve ever known who completely changed. He was a rare man and I miss him everyday. Our relationship was forged in fire and unbreakable at the end.
I'm 17 now and I will never forget watching my parents argue and fight. I just be sitting in the corner crying thinking it's my fault. I just wanted a family like you see on TV Where everyone got along and there was no fighting. But I realize that's not reality, especially not mine. I have grown from that experience and when I have kids I will never fight in front front of them because, I know what it did to me and I don't want to happen to them.

My mom and father were always fighting when and my two older siblings were younger before they separated. I grew up seeing my father hit my mom. Not often, but I still saw it. My father had MS, and this particular kind affected his brain. I did, and still do most times feel like it was my fault he changed. I was always told by family members that it didn't start to affect him until my mom found out she was pregnant with me, and that his personality didn't do a 180 until I was born. I never knew my father before he changed, and I never really knew him growing up. I had to say goodbye to him on my 15th birthday. He had a stroke, and it pretty much killed 2/3 of his brain. He died the next day. I'm almost 20 now, and I have never been allowed the time to grieve for what I lost, and what was never, and will never be answered. I have my mom and little brother to take care of. I haven't gotten that luxury yet.

And like my mom i was in an abusive relationship and my son witnessed his father throwing me across the room and beating me and hearing his father yelling and making me cry. My mom is a domestic violence survivor. My childhood was chaotic and full of grief and strife. I've made efforts to never argue in front of my kids. They're 20 and 16, and hopefully capable of having healthy relationships now because they've seen healthy relationships
My parents were divorced before i was old enough to remember. I ended up raised by my grandparents. They sometimes fought but it wasn't those arguments that got to me. For me it was the words said towards me. There are still scars left and even though time has healed a lot sometimes there is still that dull ache just like you'd get from a physical wound. Being older and wise has helped me realise that my grandparents weren't entirely responsible. Poor education mixed with poor mental health can be very damaging. I no longer feel the anger but the hurt still lingers.
