The amazing thing to me is this understates Jacob's unique gifts and contributions to music theory. He might as well go straight to Collier's Moon River on the first listen!
Snarky Puppy did an entire album with this orchestra. It's incredible. Check out the song, "The Curtain." Cory takes a solo as well as Bill Laurance. Absolutely breathtaking stuff.
SYLVA the album with The Curtain is a suite of music written by Michael League and arranged by Michael and Metropole Orkest conductor Jules Buckley. And, of course, a Grammy winning album. Stunning.
You will LOVE Cory Henry's rendition of purple rain with the metropole orchestra! Cory's an absolute genius with many talents, try purple rain to see another of his great talents.
Cory Henry has his own band called Funk Apostles. For example, they did an NPR Tiny Desk concert. There is also one solo performance (with a drummer) in Amsterdam which I absolutely loved: Heart at Midnight. Very understated performance.
Nothing more needs to be said of these 2 absolute geniuses Cory Henry and Jacob Collier. Brilliance. The BBC Proms are a multi-week music festival in England, from chamber works up to full orchestral performances, covering many genres. The Metropole Orkest is an orchestra that specializes in these types of performances, kinda like a big band with strings. One of my favorites of Metropole at the Proms is this performance with Leo P on baritone saxophone, and Christian Scott on trumpet. Absolutely bonkers. Shows off their big band side. ruclips.net/video/BARAHLk-8dk/видео.html
MRLBOYD you reacted the same way I did - the BBC Proms is an anual event not usually my bag - to get Cory Henry on it was un heard of - it is usually televised from the Royal Albert Hall which I have been to once ( so posh ) Long Live Cory Henry & Jacob Collier ..........................
To see and hear Jacob playing such a brilliant (and likely under-appreciated) supporting roll here says volumes about the place of Cory in the musical firmament. And can you even IMAGINE the joy of that conductor and orchestra, getting to do this nonstandard stuff?!?!?
His tribute to Melvin Crispell is an amazing gospel keyboard solo in a church. I haven't seen anyone react to it. It's an incredible, emotion fueled performance. Just search for Corey Henry tribute to Melvin Crispell.
I'm so glad you're a Snarky Puppy and CORY HENRY fan now bro! As a fellow pianist, he's definitely one of my top faves all around in this era! Jacob is a freakin' beast as well. His harmonization is outta this world. Coupled with Henry it's an otherworldly combo. Peace and love to ya'll everyone!
You talk about a life dedicated. You couldn’t be more correct. Cory Henry started playing the keys at 2 (I think?). There’s footage of him playing music in church, as part of the church band, at 4 years old. FOUR YEARS OLD. And not bullshit playing. Real playing. Improvising and stuff. At 4. Cory is unreal. And while he wasn’t the focus of this song, the other pianist playing, Jacob Collier (who yes, you did react to) is a musical prodigy, multi-instrumentalist, and so far ahead of seemingly everyone else compositionally. Just nuts.
This has to be from one of the Snarky Puppy sessions in Europe with the Metropole Orkest. There's another one with Jacob Collier called Don't You Know?
Snarky Puppy - Shofukan or Larnell Lewis drumming after hearing a song one time ( he did Metallica and one more) and he's the amazing drummer from Lingus clip. Cheers bro
Btw Snarky Puppy has a song called Don't You Know that features Jacob Collier and a sick tuba player named Big Ed Lee. That's well worth a listen as well.
The BBC Proms is usually a classical music event that takes place in the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have hosted many great orchestras and soloists for decades. However, in recent years it has ended up being a kind of cultural hotpot as you can see here. The Proms used to take itself super seriously, as classical music demanded, but now it's so much more accessible to regular people who just enjoy music. They even did a Comedy Prom in 2011 which is definitely worth checking out, in your own time if not for a reaction.
If you want to see Cory Henry play piano, I suggest you (and anyone else), look up Cory Henry at Montreaux Jazz Festival. He does a version of All I Do by Stevie Wonder and Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock. It's been saved to my favorites since I saw it, just amazing, I wish I saw him play straight piano more often.
Funny you should mention the organ. There's old home video online of Cory, basically a toddler playing on the church organ better than I could ever dream to.
This was wonderful. Please do Jacob Collier's version of "All Night Long." Jacob's the one on the piano to the left of stage. You reviewed his "Moon River." Please, please do a reaction to "All Night Long." Thank you for the thoughtful, beautifully produced reactions. Such a good vibe.
10:23 That was supposed to be Jacob Collier's solo. The volume on Jacob (the other guy on the piano) was extremely low. Big mess-up by the sound engineer. It hurts til this day, everytime I see this video.
Without a doubt, this is the best cover version of Billie Jean I have ever heard. 😄💖💖💖 Musically, technically, the soul is just... Divine. Gives me shivers ever time! The only thing is that I would have wanted to hear the "real" voice of Cory Henry and Jacob Collier, because they have lovely voices. 😄💗
You need to do a Jacob Collier review. That dude is amazing in his own right. Like a student of music overall. All the instruments he plays and the way he puts his song together. It''s crazy the way his mind works. Please review one of his RUclips videos were he puts a song together live. Mind blowing.
Can you react to snarky puppy the curtain , i thought lingus was a master piece but wow Corry Henry solo on the curtain is insane . i have not seen any reaction on that video. Thanks
To be fair, while that solo is absolutely insane, it's immediately overshadowed (at least in my opinion) by Bill Lawrence's heart-wrenching solo that follows.
YES! The North Sea Jazz Festival version, also with Metropole Orkest, is absolutely killer. Spine-tingling stuff from start to finish. Also - you want horns? It's got HORNS. Looking forward to seeing MrLBoyd's mind BLOWN when he watches it, absolutely world-class musicianship and ensemble playing on display :) ruclips.net/video/8pmdtoJ-Wnc/видео.html
Dude, watch and listen to anything Cory Henry is in. It's all good. Check out Cory Henry - Beatles "Think For Yourself" Cover--in which he does not play a keyboard. It's amazing. Jacob Collier--who backed him up in this tune--is *also* freaking amazing. In general, if you branch out from people who have played with Snarky Puppy, you can't go wrong.
Don't forget the conductor and arranger, Jules Buckley. He controls the whole thing with poise and seeming insouciance. How many could arrange like this?
Cory also did Purple Rain you should listen to with same band just saying. Thanks for the content always enjoy. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I love your content! You should try some louis cole, or Knower. I would recommend "One Hope" There are multiple versions. The best in my opinion in the REHEARSAL verison. It's 6:10 long, and it's a modern masterpiece.
It is already requested before in your comments, but as fas as I know (excuse me if I'm wrong) it has never resulted to a MrLboyd reaction. And you will regret dying without knowing. At North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, the homeland of Metropole Orchestra (the same orchestra playing at the Billy Jean song). The Michael Jackson challenge for Cory Henry was to do a different interpretation of a MJ song, since MJ only wanted to reproduce the recorded verson playing live. Prince was the opposite: he never played a song the same twice. And after you've listedned, you know why I mention this difference.
When you talk about "lingus" which cory Henry solo are you talking about coz there are various versions and the one you reacted to is the most conservative one lol.
I wondered how far I'd have to go in comments before jacob collier was mentioned.. wasn't that far. Hopefully dude has recognized and checked it out. I'm new here...
The other guy on keyboard and doing back vocals none other than Jacob Collier another child prodigy. Collier is a genius is own right. You need to check him out. A good intro is "the Flinstones". Don't laugh you will be blown away. I believe he was 16 at the time. Isn't the Maestro the same one as on the Angelina Jordan's O2 performance of "Fly to the moon"
I didn't know Cory and Jacob performed together! Love the reactions. I'd also recommend anything you find with Cory playing the harpejji - the instrument alone is super interesting. Also, if you like to check out more of Jacob, I'd recommend anything he's done with Daniel Caesar. Time Alone With You is a wild one, but this live performance in Toronto of Best Part is one of my favorite things ever. ruclips.net/video/fD4rxj7-uO0/видео.html
I don't think any MJ said it's blasphemy. Yes, some might not like it, but it's their right to do so. I for sure love this remake of BJ and Chris Cornell's and even the ukulele guy's version and The Bates remake, all are different the, all approach from a different aspect. And I think they all prove what a great little song Billie Jean is.
When you have Jacob Collier backing you up, you have arrived. You have to dig deep into the music scene to find this stuff. I mean you gotta lift the skirt and pull the bra and panties off to find this good stuff out there in the music world. haha
Agreed that the Snarky Puppy/Jacob Collier collab is worth a watch. And here’s a Cory Henry solo that’s another phenomenal performance you should check out! ruclips.net/video/T7iVpEwmuRo/видео.html

This is just my opinion. I believe they're certain songs that are so iconic and so attached to the original Artist they should never be sung by any other singer. Just like in sports when they retire a Jersey. Can you imagine an NBA player on the Chicago Bulls wearing Michael Jordan Jersey and number? No! because it's just too attached to Michael Jordan.
Very unique... but I'm actually not so sure about it. As for fair use, though, I'm sure the BBC just licensed the rights to perform and broadcast it. Or did you mean for yourself? In that case, I think, assuming BBC did license it, it would be _their_ choice whether to block/claim/whatever this video.
You paused it and started talking at literally one of the best parts, the transition * *facepalm* * thats why you got lost for a bit when he was playing something different lol smh
Jacob Collier is there too, and you definitely need to listen to his stuff. He’s arguably one of, if not the, most brilliant musician alive.
The amazing thing to me is this understates Jacob's unique gifts and contributions to music theory. He might as well go straight to Collier's Moon River on the first listen!
He did that one already but He needs more Jacob Collier reactions!!!
This is definitely and exaggeration😂.
@@joenorsworthy He did.
Jacob Collier at NPR Tiny Desk Home Edition
Snarky Puppy did an entire album with this orchestra. It's incredible. Check out the song, "The Curtain." Cory takes a solo as well as Bill Laurance. Absolutely breathtaking stuff.
I'll second this. The Curtain comes in right after Lingus as my favourite from snarky puppy

Cory Henry has his own band called Funk Apostles. For example, they did an NPR Tiny Desk concert. There is also one solo performance (with a drummer) in Amsterdam which I absolutely loved: Heart at Midnight. Very understated performance.

I second this recommendation. Truly amazing performance
I havent seen anyone play the Hammond EVER like he does there - EXCELLENT
I'seen it. Many, many, many times.
Sweeet been meaning to check this out after watching your Lingus reaction and losing my mind over Mr. Henry. I'll watch it wicha 😁❤️🔥
Cory Henry is the best living Hammond organist on this planet, maybe next to Joey DeFrancesco
Special mention for Delvon Lamarr
Keith Emerson's son
Jacob Collier is also amazing!! He collaborated with Snarky Puppy in a song called “Don’t you Know” also mind blowing
Absolutely freaking brilliant ...DAMN THAT WAS GOOD !!!

Cory henry - purple rain shivers down the spine
you should react to Cory Henry singing Purple Rain with the metropole orkesta. Beautiful!!!
This is one of my favorite performances of all time. I love once the arrangement, especially once the bassline drops in.

amazing. love cory
‘Dirty Loops’ mah man… jump on dat!
To see Cory Henry playing the Hammond, aged 4, check out Gotcha Now Documentary: Part 1 (The life & music of Cory Henry) here on YT
By the way, Corey is a child prodigy. He was playing the organ at church at the age of 5.. FYI
3 years old…….
Btw Snarky Puppy has a song called Don't You Know that features Jacob Collier and a sick tuba player named Big Ed Lee. That's well worth a listen as well.

You should watch Cory play ''A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. Absolutely gorgeous.
A BRILLIANT reharmonization of a minimalist simple mega hit.
