I have the Original SG906 "The Beast" (Not the pro). It was my first drone purchase, after watching "The Captain" review of it. These are Great starter drones, if you want to dabble into the hobby and see it's going to be for you. What I absolutely didn't like was the HFunPro app, the functions in the app were NOT very responsive for me everytime, I had it out, (android user Galaxy S10 at that time).
But honestly that was ok, for it being my starter drone, I was mainly trying just learning what features I will be more particularly about and what could live without, when looking for my future drone at the time.
Which end up being the dji mini2. (thanks again for that purchase, Steve). Like everyone else I made the attempt to win one during the contest.......
Now wanting to get a taste of the FPV, been really enjoying all these FPV kit reviews.

Very good. I have the version without card slot and without guimbal.This version has improved a lot compared to the previous one even in the battery issue that increased the amperage. Show .👍👍

Captain Drone there is a reason why they wrote 249gr - it's because the SG108 MAX can use even the SG108 battery that is more lighter and 2.200 mah instead of 3000 mah and with that one it fits 249gr.

I have viewed a number of your reviews of late. I ALMOST bought this drone. Going by the seller's page which does list the weight as 242grams. I am really pleased you actually weigh these. You saved me a foul! LOL

Videos i have seen regarding compass calibration. Some have rotated the drone clockwise, others anti clockwise and horizontal up or down makes no difference either. Just an observation. Nice review Steve.👍
the DJI MINI2 is obviously the best mini out there right now. What would you consider the 2nd best? 3rd? less then the 599 fly more MINI2

This drone is a great starter drone, I purchased the sg108 in black and the SG108 pro in orange. Also since it's identical to the dji mini, most dgi mini accessories will fit this drone with no issues.. Thanks for the video.. 👍👍

@@michellearneson5961 The only difference between the pro and non pro models is the 2 axis gimble on the pro version and the included SD card slot on the bottom side. The non pro version has the fixed camera that only goes up and down and not side to side, also it doesn't have an SD card slot

@@michellearneson5961 My pro version just arrived yesterday in the mail and I'll be flying it later today. Both I would assume would fly equally the same but maybe a better image on the pro due to the 2 axis gimble but other than that it seems like the motors are identical and the same with the range specs. To answer your question I'd say yes to both being a great beginner drone. I plan on getting the Mavic Mini 2 soon but I needed to get the hang of flying first on a non expensive drone and ended up purchasing these two models

I ordered one on the basis of your review and you are spot on, but I want to update a few things. First is the app. If you download using the QR code it is only in Chinese. While the manual is in many languages the on-line stuff is in Chinese. Download from the Playstore using SG 108 drone for the search. You will get many choices so use HfunPro ap. and it will work. The camera is non adjustable, but I got stable video with it so the 2 axis is OK. NOTE there is no Tech Support info and it came in a plain wrapper with no contact info there either. You had better know how to operate drones if you get this one because you are on your own as opposed to companies like Holy Stone or DJI who have tech support just a phone call or e-mail away.. Oh yes do the gyro and compass calibration each flight, it only takes a minute and power consumption is minimal. t down not remember once the power is turned off, even for a short battery switch. It does seem to remember the satellites though. For $149 with 3 batteries it's pretty good.

What a great drone for the price!,🤠ideal for practice when we dont want to risk our dji drone,its good to get a little basher we can practice with,the camera looks ok,and no jello so thats good,and also i love the strobe at the front,if the drone was black it would look like a mini knight rider of the air😁 thanks captain.

There is bad very 4k and very good 720P or 1080P. You really shouldn't just look at numbers.

That seems way better than my eachine with no gimbal or camera control. This one is even brushless! Looks like a good one compared to what was available at that price just a year ago.

I just lost my Fema S3 drone exactly for the reason you mentioned at the end of the vid, no GPS in app while the remote did have GPS-light lit :-( Got above the trees where there was a surprisingly strong wind. Without drone-in-gps-mode no "home" function and before I was aware the drone was blown away, it was too late! So for other beginners like me I'd warn : ALWAYS check your GPS function in the APP and Controller, make sure this home-responce works before really flying out at a distance. Problem is that you can't see them anymore beyond 150m and searching in the fields is hopeless. I wrote my registration- (obligatory in FR) and phonenumber on it, so maybe some day I'll get it back.
This SG108 has a lot better with image stabilisation and quality, the cheap Fema drone has same resolution but poor quality lens/image that has often interferance wobbles in the image when drone is working in the wind.
I can really recommend this type of drone to get to know the sport/hobby but for more serious stuff like holiday memories, I'd buy a DJI. For example look at the clouds in the background of the SG108 above, that's where you recognise quality or not.

I understand it's a budget drone, but the video wobble is my killer. I wont look well if you're gonna use it specifically for video content, unless you can remove the wobble with ProDad Mercalli.

Mine arrived a few days ago.
Overall, it's very nice but there are three (related) problems:-
1) The status LED (that tells you if the drone is calibrated etc) is inside the shell and shines through it, which makes it difficult to see in bright sunlight.
This might not seem like a big deal but it aggravates the other two issues.
2) The controller powering on/off when you fold out the phone-mount seems like a nice idea but in practice it's a bit irritating because it means you've got the faff of taking your phone out of the mount every time you need to switch the controller on/off - which you'll be doing more often than you'd like while re-calibrating the drone because of the hard-to-see status LED.
3) Again, due to the dim status LED and the faff of turning the controller on/off, it seems easier to calibrate the drone using the HFun app'.
Only problem is, if you calibrate the drone using the HFun app, the drone doesn't connect to the controller and you can ONLY control it via the "virtual sticks" in the app - your controller won't work at all.
The controller ONLY works with the drone if you use the controller to initiate the calibration (sticks down and in).
None of this is a deal-breaker but it means you'll probably be spending time shielding the drone from the sun while you calibrate it, so you can see what the LED is doing and it means you'll be spending more time than you expect taking your phone out of the controller so you can switch it off and on again.
At some point, I'm probably going to take the controller apart, see if I can bypass the internal power switch and replace it with a miniature toggle switch attached to the top of the controller somewhere.
Overall, it's a REALLY nice drone to fly, though.
The gimbal does a terrific job of stabilising the image and the drone, itself, is pretty stable and easy to control.
Picture and video quality are both pretty impressive IMO.

I found that this drone is available on the Dutch market with a great difference in prices. The original drone is with 3 battery's around 170 euro's but Dutch importers offer them for up 300 euro's. And you have to watch if its the pro and how many battery's are included.
Same here, in india, it costs $300 bucks. I don't know if it's worth that price.

I don't want to sound rude, but this looks cobbled together. Like they got a lot of Mavic Mini 1's on inventory, the low end camera from the Autel and a basic interface. It's impressive that they put the pieces together, but it still feels like a last years or 2019's models slapped together.
Did we notice a horizontal wobble on the video whilst on flight?
because mine only flies in GPS mode when I turn off the gps the blades turn but when I turn on the gas they stop

Wonder why they add those front and rear light, which if removed maybe it can bring the weight down to below 249 grams..
The apps on all these low cost drones look very similar. I have a Syma W1 and that app looks virtually identical to the Hubsan etc.

That's what I often wonder..why Dji doesn't expand on the color of their drones...
They did twice. The DJI SPARK came in different colors and so did the DJI MAVIC AIR. At one time DJI only made WHITE drones, then they switched to GREY with the MAVIC PRO and have never looked back.
Hey Captain, I purchased the SG108 PRO at the first of the month and was very excited when I saw you were doing a review on it. I got it yesterday and flew it last night, did good until I hit RTH ,it wouldn't clear the tree's end I couldn't figure out how to change the RTH Attitude ,any help. Thanks
The return to home height is fixed and it is higher than trees (approx 25 to 30 meters).

HEY i think they put 249g on it is to give the flyer (in Canada} less worries on flying without drone pilot license and or its 249g without battery so my thought on the SG108 pro are well i own the Mini 2 so ill be nice and say its ok
Probably. If any local authority looked at the drone, they would think it is under 250 grams.

DJI MAVIC knockoffs. Your intro was cool.
The DJI air 2 has a 48 megapixel CMOS sensor, while the air2S has a 20 megapixel CMOS sensor. I would have thought more pixels would give a better image, but DJI explained it this way.

The quality of a photo is determined by the size of the CMOS, not the number of pixels, and the pixels of CMOS are fixed and determined by the manufacturer.
1. Under the same ambient light conditions, Air 2S camera will receive more light, so the imaging of Air 2S will be better;
2. In the case of receiving the same amount of light, the single pixel size of Air 2S is larger (2.4μm), and the single pixel of Air 2 (0.8μm) will receive more light, so the imaging of Air 2S will be better.

Camera Drones are simple... The more you pay the better the drone. Low cost drones all have tons of features, but they are low cost for a reason (there is no warranty, there is no support, they are all designed for flying in a park and just for having fun).
