This video was supposed to go up a few days ago but there's been a lot going on. (I also would have loved to have been able to caption this video before publishing but my terrible internet connection left me no time) I'll be taking a week off as of today, but please do still feel free to leave your discussion topics and questions for future videos below! My next video will be a vlog to share a bit of what's been going on, but in the meantime I hope you're all well, taking care of yourselves, and being kind to yourselves and others 💕
Thank you for posting this, I understand life getting in the way, surely. I hope all is good, busy for good reasons. These are great videos to sketch along with !
An idea for tiery the cat and the windows , maybe go to the hardware store and get a childgate that usually go’s across the top of starirs , they have latches that should lock onto your window sill , but put fly screen on it and block the window with the gate, let air in and keep tiery safe
Hello mini just letting you know I've had lots of house cats I did nonprofit rescue for many years :-) the best investment you'll ever make is having a professional screen hanger come out and put wire screens on your window they look like regular screens but it's made out of a wire mesh instead of a fabric mesh and then the anchor it in such a way that it can't be pushed out by the cat but you can take them off with little toggles... Honestly I've had some really rambunctious kitty cats that like to climb my screens and yell at the birds... And if I didn't have those screens they would have been out and actually that's happened it's caused a lot of heartbreak tracking down cats for days and having to trap them and get them back in a rural area where we have lots of predators.... Also if you have a downstairs window like maybe off of a dining room or something you could build him a catio.. Just Google that on Pinterest nothing huge and fancy but you would not believe how happy a 3 by 6 foot by 5 foot box with different level shelves in it makes them put a little cat door in some plexiglass fitted into the window so he has access to go in and out as he pleases and he literally can go outside on his own very secure catio and yell at the birds then jump all over and act like a maniac they really don't take up as much room as you think and adds to your kitty cats health insanity and yours as well. I hope those hints were helpful :-) you're always welcome to direct mail me if you have any other questions about cats and pretty much a cat inside :-)
seeing you paint in real time, which is not as fast as sped up videos make you believe it is (obv one knows it is, but it's hardly possible to see how fast it would actually be), makes the whole process seem less intimidating :) and it's also nice to hear from you in your kind, soothing and honest ways :)
Thanks Minnie. This real time painting video was so inspiring and relaxing to watch. Painting images from your garden book was a great idea for reference. Would love to see you do more like this. So very calming in a world where so much is time lapsed and fast.
I do so enjoy the long ones. At the end you mentioned that you probably don't need to talk all the time because most of us are painting along with you! That happened to be the case with me and there's something comforting knowing that someone else is painting with me. Being an artist gets lonely sometimes haha. Also, I have been thinking about becoming a content creator but people being so harsh and turning on you is the exact reason why I've been scared to start. I understand completely.
Hi Minnie, so glad you posted the one-hour long video. I really enjoy watching you paint and the idea of choosing a photo from a book to create from, it's great. Love your painting and thanks for sharing ❤️❤️❤️
Man, I love drawing/painting while listening/watching your videos. Gotta wait till tomorrow morning, but this is gonna be the perfect companion to my pre-work art session. Thanks for always posting such great content!
I'm having a very hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of a window with no screen in it! lol The flies, the gnats, bees, wasps, MOSQUITOES! Oh no no no no no!!
With your cat dilemma- you could get fly screens on your windows. I live in Australia and screens a pretty much standard on all windows. Thank you for your videos 😊
yeah, they're standard in the US too. We must have a lot more bugs that they do over in England. Over here, they're used to keep out the bugs, but it's great for keeping the cats in too. They love sitting in the window and smelling all the outdoor scents.
I am enjoying this so much! It's so clever just talking about random things while you paint. It's lovely and I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Thank you
Absolutely love this format of video. I especially appreciate that you included your palette in the frame so we could see you mixing your colors. Color mixing is the hardest thing for me.
Love love LOVE this series! I watched this while making dog toys for my pup (cheaper than buying), so it was really nice to have something calming and interesting to watch while doing mindless work. Thanks for a great video!!
Im so happy to see this is an hour long. When you first posted the initial post in this series I was so happy to see the hour of my sketchbook but then so disappointed to see it was only 6 minutes. So I was super pleased to see this was real time. Looking forward to the vlog.
Minnie, I loved this. Real time allows me to watch how you manipulate that great big brush to bring life to delicate flowers. As far as I’m concerned, filling the entire video with talk isn’t necessary. I am mesmerized by your brushstrokes! I certainly enjoy your answers to our questions. But paint the way you would if you weren’t filming. It helps me to know what works for you during the creative process. Besides, I personally hate to be creative and talk at the same time. My creative and communicative portions of my brain do not like to work together, if that makes any sense. 😀 QUESTION: Have you ever done an abstract? I think it would be fun to see your take on this style. 🙏🏼💕
I love this kind of video! It's wonderful; thank you so much! If you are looking for a way to keep kitty baby inside, we have window screens here in the US. Our cats perch in the window but don't push out the screen even when tasty birds and insects fly by. You may want to make sure the frame of the screen is strong metal and fits securely and neatly in your window. On another random note, I loved Endgame. The sound "end credit" they had at the end was touching. It was the sound of Tony making his first Iron Man suit in the cave. I am still not over that movie. I nerd hard. Hope you had a fun and relaxing vacation. 😎
I think every job is creative. My father was a general surgeon and I got to watch him in action several times. I could not fathom having a scalpel and someone's life in my hands.
Minnie, these real time paint with me style videos are sooooo nice to have on while I'm working on my drawings and paintings!! Thank you for making them :)
Enjoyed this sketchbook session. Hope there will be more :) Your discussion of film reminded me of a film I can recommend. The film is called "Maudie" (2017) about Canadian artist, Maud Lewis. She was a primitive/folk artist who struggled with rheumatoid arthritis and other disabilities her whole life and turned to painting as an escape from her troubles. It's a fascinating, odd, heart-wrenching yet inspiring movie. I would also recommend seeing the 1965 short documentary about her ("Folk Artist Maud Lewis at work in her Nova Scotia home 1965" on RUclips). Amazing woman who lived a very unusual life. I can't stop thinking about it ever since I saw it!
Loved this real time format!! It kinda felt like I was just hanging out with you but it was super relaxing and interesting to see a bit of your painting process and behind the scenes that would normally get cut out of videos. Thx for sharing it with us :)
Thank you so much for releasing inspiring and amazing content that helps me move forward with my life. Your videos help me a lot with being a better person ❤️ thank you
i love videos like this! i watch them while drawing. it makes me feel like we're all hanging out together while everyone is drawing in their own sketchbook
I really enjoyed this type of video. I love the casual conversation and the real time pace of drawing. Its really inspiring and motivating to me to just pick up my own brushes and do something. And I imagine its isn't as much work to edit, and could be possibly released on a (semi-) regular basis? I'd love this occasional check ins on how you've been and some art chat. I'm always looking forward to new videos of yours. You genuinly make my day better and I'm aways left happier when I've watched a video of yours and listened to your voice for a moment (hope i dont come across too creepy...) thanks for sharing so much of your thoughts and art process :)
I love the pace of this video compared to your other ones! (I love your other videos too, I just never see this style of art content). Also, about looking to real life for inspo vs imagination, I recommend you try different forms of art, (like finger painting, spraypaint, string art, etc) where the outcome isn't as important as having fun with art. These are things my art teacher would have us do and it REALLY helped me love art again in the way I did as a kid. I have some really fun pieces like a really messy flower field that just brings me joy because I know how fun it was to paint. I think that would really help you become more imaginative with your art (if you try painting emotions, or paint based on music).
Art is art-there are no rules-----do what you want, the criticizers can suggest, but really, there should be no rules with creativity ;) Love your videos Minnie-pretty painting.
I think you're doing great with everything and anything you're working on. I absolutely relate to feeling like a personal project goes stale before you complete it, and not getting it the way you want it to look. If I do wind up completing it, it's because I keep in mind that I can always revisit the idea later, and build up from what I had completed before (like a detailed template for the future final product!). Big fan of your channel, helps me zen out while I draw as well :D
I spent like 30 minuetes trying to find you!!! I remember i watched your channel a few years ago and i am subbed but i couldnt remember your name!! Im so happy i found you lovely work again 😄
It's 4am here and I'm considering staying up just one more hour for this! Still, ow I have something to look forward to at sun up. Love. Your videos. Hope. All is well at home.
With my apartment I had to transition my cats from being allowed to go outside to only being inside which was a STRUGGLE. but I leave the windows open maybe 6 inches all day and night so they can hear the outdoors and sit on the window sill but I do have screens which prevents them from jumping out. If it gets too cold or muggy I close the door and just leave the blinds all the way open for them to look out(: and I have a lot of cat safe plants which Give them that outdoorsy vibe. Oh and their cat condo and bowls are by the window so they get as much stimulation as possible..(: sorry for the long response I’ve been a cat mom for too long 😂😂 I hope you enjoyed your trip!!(: ❤️❤️
your videos always really put me at ease. i don't know what it is about them - maybe it's your voice, your personality, your content... whatever it is, i always look forward to see a new video from you whether it be a vlog or a more art related video. you also inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and start doing more art.
Window screens are definitely the way to go. They’re pretty standard on every window where I am in California. Great way to keep your furry friends in and keep bugs/other pests out, while still enjoying the fresh air. :-)
I love the sound of scratching on paper. It puts me in an ASMR daze 😌 If you wanted to upload a video without talking, I know I’d be here for it either way. ❤️
Check amazon for window guards you can put in that are strong so your cat won’t fall out. They look like bars and are removable when you want to open or close the windows with no fear of losing a cat. They also have mesh fabric guards. We use them for kids and cats to keep them safe! Great video. You put me in the mood to paint!
i love painting along with your videos :) keeps me motivated to continue with my art btw, loved your previous video, the one with the ghibli clouds, would love to see more of those
Definitely kind of video i want to watch while drawing! Well i have some suggestions here. I think you dont have to talk all the time (especially if it's bothering you). You can just play your favourite music and talk if you want to but not all the time. It will just as lovely as well! Still good work you got there and i can't wait for another video like this!
Screens. (This seems to be a UK thing. In the US we have bugs, so all windows have screens on them to keep the bugs out.) If you can get screen installed that solves the issue.
Thank you for inspirational videos, I like to watch them a lot. And with cat's safety I think there are cat safety nets with wire reinforcements available in shops like zooplus, protective grilles for tilting windows etc.
Hi Minnie, you’ve inspired me to do my own sketchbook series and I’d love to send you a copy when it’s done! My question for you is how are you making income as an artist since stopping patreon? What are your art goals for the remainder of the year?
I have my studio in my room, but I have the luck of having a pretty.. special room. It has two floors, I sleep in the upper one and since I moved my closet up there it feels even more like my "living space", while my other floor is now purely my workspace. I have two tables, one for scool work and the other one just for art and creative things. I started changing my whole room almost a week ago now and I'm about to be done, I used to hate the way it looks. Now I'm in love
I think we share the same taste in films/series! Also watch these: Ozark, Dark, The Rain, Money Heist (Spanish), High Seas (spanish)- All are on netflix.
Another great video, was lovely to see a real time video. I totally get what you mean about having to be careful about what you say - I just posted my first video on RUclips and have been super nervous about making sure I have a good video and yet still stay true to myself
thanks for showing us how to work through the paralyzing feeling of needing to make perfect art. Seriously, too many times I set up my materials then find an excuse to walk away, just feeling that my art is not worthy of the paints and paper. I need to remember how enjoyable I find the painting process once I get going with it.
That's the problem many have, I think. Whenever I sit down in front of my paper I tell myself that nobody is never going to see this anyway so why be shy, just go for it. It helps.
i loved this video, you have such a relaxing voice and I am a big fan of your honesty/openess (?) in all of your videos :D I have been in a bit of a rot as well, with making finished and more complete pieces. I've been mostly experimenting and had problems with finding the "edge" in my style. But I think these practices help us out of these dark areas with time. Hope you'll have a wonderful trip and Can't wait to see your landscape video too! hugs from Denmark.
I know you most likely got this tip, but for me screens in the windows are a good send. First off the bugs stay out, then you get the awesome extra of the cat staying in. The other big thing is keep an eye on the screen over time birds have picked at mine or the cats and I had to replace it.
If you're looking for a movie to watch I would highly recommend Coherence! It's a sci-fi/thriller mind bend that really gets you thinking. A great watch
my cat is indoor/outdoor cat, she ploughs through the blinds if the window is open behind it and makes a total scene about it, if your cat is anything like mine youd probably want to look at getting some sort of mesh to allow air flow but stop the cat getting out perhaps?
Your colour mixing is totally goals 😍 thank you for this video. It helped me realize a few things a out my artist practices and habits that have been putting me in a rut or disorder lately ❤
I watch a lot of horror and foreign movies, too. I really liked "The Wailing," and I also saw "Veronica" and "The Ritual" (the giraffe god was kind of unique). I like Asian horror, but I didn't think "Ju-On Origins" was that scary. Have you seen Midsommar? It's very emotional. I'd like to know what you think of it. I like Requiem and Maryanne on Netflix. Those are both series. Requiem is kind of wrapped up at the end, but Maryanne hints of more story. Prime had a series called "The Living and the Dead" that was kind of unique and interesting, too. The end of the first episode was intriguing. And... "The Dark and the Wicked" deals with possession and kind of had that intensity like "The VVitch," but in modern day. There's always the original "Suspiria." "No One Gets Out Alive" was also good. If you haven't seen "The Orphanage," that's a good one.
Loved this video in real time. I was wondering what classes you’ve taken on Skillshare or things you’ve seen on RUclips that you’d like to learn how to do.
This video was supposed to go up a few days ago but there's been a lot going on. It’s always fun to see these sketchbook videos. And loved the intro.
Thank you for posting this, I understand life getting in the way, surely.
I hope all is good, busy for good reasons.

Take your time Minnie. We’ll be still here ❤️ Until next time!
Can we please have more of these real time videos with you talking. I LOVED this. Thank you for sharing your life an art with us. Its a privilege.
seeing you paint in real time, which is not as fast as sped up videos make you believe it is (obv one knows it is, but it's hardly possible to see how fast it would actually be), makes the whole process seem less intimidating :) and it's also nice to hear from you in your kind, soothing and honest ways :)
Cat screens are the perfect thing so you can have daylight and breeze and a super safe kitti love your artwork lovely to connect again 🐾
Your voice is very well suited for these chilled out, super long, real time sketchbook videos! it's so relaxing and enjoyable.
I agree! I actually came to this video hoping to unwind a bit and it was just what I needed
Watched/listened to this while I worked this morning. :] I love this! I hope you're having an amazing holiday!
Hi Minnie, so glad you posted the one-hour long video. I really enjoy watching you paint and the idea of choosing a photo from a book to create from, it's great. Love your painting and thanks for sharing ❤️❤️❤️
Here in Canada my daughter and I look forward to your wonderful sessions, they are so relaxing and informative. Enjoy your holiday.

@@jwilliamson1014 Yeah, the US (especially east coast) has a TON of bugs compared to a lot of other regions/countries.
I absolutely love sitting down and painting alongside you, you motivate me and so many others to create, and I'm so thankful for that.
Love love LOVE this series! I watched this while making dog toys for my pup (cheaper than buying), so it was really nice to have something calming and interesting to watch while doing mindless work. Thanks for a great video!!

Hope you had a fun and relaxing vacation. 😎
I think every job is creative. My father was a general surgeon and I got to watch him in action several times. I could not fathom having a scalpel and someone's life in my hands.

Love the tranquil slowness of this video, thank you xx
it works amazing with her calm tone as well I love these types of videos that are like meditation just to watch C:

I love the real time version for this series! It works a lot better to paint or draw along with.
Omg, thank you for this video! I've enjoyed it so much, it's been lovely to watch you painting in real time 💛
It was great to paint along with you and listen to you chit-chat!!
1 hour of Minnie on an exam season HELL YEAH THANK YOU

After 2,5 sketch1hrvideo I've finally finished my drawing. Thank you for the draw along!
that background color is beautiful
all of it is beautiful!
I adored painting along to this. Thanks! Hope you do some more.
Art is art-there are no rules-----do what you want, the criticizers can suggest, but really, there should be no rules with creativity ;) Love your videos Minnie-pretty painting.

Lovely! I like how you did bits of faded background at the end. It had a really nice contrast effect to the sharp square lines below!
I really enjoyed this video. I watched it while doing some book binding.
lovely video! wonderful inputs and enjoyed watching this real time vid more than the compilation of 10mins
Ugh The Ritual, The Sinner, The OA! Here for the brilliant recommendations x
I spent like 30 minuetes trying to find you!!! I remember i watched your channel a few years ago and i am subbed but i couldnt remember your name!! Im so happy i found you lovely work again 😄
this is my favourite video of yours. i’d love more real-time videos
It's 4am here and I'm considering staying up just one more hour for this! Still, ow I have something to look forward to at sun up. Love. Your videos. Hope. All is well at home.
I love this! I struggle with getting started with art and this helps a lot. Thank you
This was fun, I really enjoyed it! :)
Love this series. It just so relaxing to watch you draw 😻 keep up the great work

I love this kind of video! It's great to have on in the background while I sketch too, feels like creating with a friend! :)
your videos always really put me at ease. i don't know what it is about them - maybe it's your voice, your personality, your content... whatever it is, i always look forward to see a new video from you whether it be a vlog or a more art related video. you also inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and start doing more art.

Window screens are definitely the way to go. They’re pretty standard on every window where I am in California. Great way to keep your furry friends in and keep bugs/other pests out, while still enjoying the fresh air. :-)
Love how you filmed the intro it is clean and looks pro without to many effects or weird overlays
Amazing I loved the paintings so much. You are such an inspiration to me.❤️
Love this new series
I love this content! I like that I can make art and feel like I “have company” doing the same task 💕
the fact that its a long video made me super happy yayyyy
I love the sound of scratching on paper. It puts me in an ASMR daze 😌 If you wanted to upload a video without talking, I know I’d be here for it either way. ❤️
Lovely work, as always! You have definitely inspired me as an artist 😊
Your videos always inspire me to whip out my paints and go completely off the rails with them and I’m here for it :D
I ADORE this series idea! Thank you! So soothing.
I look forward to watching your videos because they are so inspiring which is why I became a subscriber to your channel. Your work is amazing!!!

Same in Canada, screens on all windows! 👍🐱
😌 what a lovely way to start my morning
Love your work so much, Minnie 💕💕
I think we share the same taste in films/series! Also watch these: Ozark, Dark, The Rain, Money Heist (Spanish), High Seas (spanish)- All are on netflix.
Another great video, was lovely to see a real time video. I totally get what you mean about having to be careful about what you say - I just posted my first video on RUclips and have been super nervous about making sure I have a good video and yet still stay true to myself
More of these please!! Gosh love it so much
thanks for showing us how to work through the paralyzing feeling of needing to make perfect art.
Thank you for this inspiring video. ❤️
Oh my gosh thank you so much I love these
Loved the video had fun drawing along in my sketchbook. I do remember kidulthood it was also a big deal when adulthood came out.
This concept is so cool and I’d love to see more
I found your color palette so nice to see. How your colors were mixed during the video :)
I love this, i always feel inspired after all your videos!
Love this kind of content Minnie! :) x
I know you most likely got this tip, but for me screens in the windows are a good send. First off the bugs stay out, then you get the awesome extra of the cat staying in. The other big thing is keep an eye on the screen over time birds have picked at mine or the cats and I had to replace it.
I love this video!! Please do more!!
Thank you- exactly what I needed!
So satisfying as always
I just subbed - I like your thinking process.
Veronica is amazing, I love it as well
If you're looking for a movie to watch I would highly recommend Coherence!
You saved my day!
This is so theraputical :D Thank you!
Your colour mixing is totally goals 😍 thank you for this video. It helped me realize a few things a out my artist practices and habits that have been putting me in a rut or disorder lately ❤
Baby gates are what we used to use in our windows when we lived on the 11th floor. It kept our cat from jumping out the windows. :)
I don't know how but I totally missed that you uploaded a new video!
