This is a very important subject l am glad you addressed. l think that there is a range of topics associated with the care of bonsai that are not talked about as much as they should be which can lead to disaster for beginners and experienced people alike. You touched on watering the pots, more specifically the pot walls. This will cool the roots. The extreme heat wave in the Pacific northwest recently provided a number of remedial actions to protect the trees one of which was moving trees into shade.
Another topic is the spring dance of moving trees in and out of their winter storage benefiting from warm days and avoiding killing frost at night. There is also the dance moving trees into sunlight which can burn foliage and bark with plants not being acclimatized to sunlight in their winter storage. Here trees can be moved into full shade and gradually introduced into more sunlight over a month. There is also the dance or shuffle of moving newly repotted trees into morning sun but avoiding afternoon sun. This also applies to heavily pruned trees that exposes once hidden interior foliage and bark to sun. Rafi, your timely and accessible videos provide a valuable resource to the bonsai community. Thank you.

Thank you David, you touch on a plethora of very important issues in your comment. I hope most viewers do read it as I chose only to discuss watering rather than the larger issue of things to do to keep trees healthy in extreme heat as you did. Thank you so much for your kind words and your comments that are as usual spot on. Thank you.

I also water dark pots soil, wet or not cause soil/the pot can reach high temperatures. Not to water but to refresh... thanks for your videos.

Hi Rafael, can watering the foliage lead to damage on trees which are in full sun?
    Thanks

I had a raccoon knock one my oak trees over. Is this why you have those straps? Where can I get them?

I have all my trees tied to the benches with the exception of very few that are too heavy, or low centre of gravity. I found out the hard way that wind can cause havoc and while my garden is relatively sheltered from wind, on the occasions that there is a heavy wind, I prefer to be safe than sorry. I used to use rope but it is cumbersome and a bit unsightly, what I use now is velcro straps. You can find in amazon.
