Cool to watch from that perspective... Watch them all the time over there from American side of river. They're getting rarer all the time. She only has a few years left on her most likely before being towed off to the Soo to be Scrapped. The Manistee and Mississauga have be taken out of Service and are going to Scrapper. The New Class are all rear loader and carry bigger payloads but they sure are not as beautiful as the lines on the Old Boats, that is for sure.
The lake freighter MV Saginaw was launched as John J. Boland in 1953, the third vessel to bear that name. John J. Boland was owned and operated by the American Steamship Company and constructed by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company at Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Wikipedia
I assumed based on the title that this would be a video of ship unloading taking place here in Saginaw, MI. My curiosity was peaked because I believe the majority of the commercial portage and docks here in Saginaw are ALL gone. Another victim of the auto industry collapse. A little disappointed but still a great video. My grandfather worked with the SIU after his service in Korea and Vietnam. His ship dredged sand for engine block casting.
That would have been the Niagara sucking up sand in the bay for Grey Iron Foundry. The sand sand came out of the area known as the black hole now. I'm thinking it's been 25 years or more since they used the Niagara.
I just move to the Sarnia area and enjoy your videos it’s helpful to learn about the area. Maybe some day we can meet up we have some of the same hobbies like cars
Green video of her. Thank you for sharing this.
Those telescoping hatch covers are certainly old school. Excellent video!
Some times reffered too as a'hatch farm'.⚓⚓⚓🗽🗽🗽
I didn't know there were any boats left with those!
Excellent works! Thank you
Wow, impressive shots. Enjoyed watching this very much. Thank you.
Gotta love the big bandage on the pot bow. Been there a few years but I never did hear what caused it.😮

We still get ships in port here in Saginaw almost weekly. All up and around the Zilwaukee bridge area. Stone and salt is what most are carrying.

What is it hauling, and where is it at?
That's gravel being unloaded?

I wonder what size cabins are on the poop deck?

Nice video. Only change background music. Turned off volume, a little annoying.
Turn you volume off
