- Will the newly released paddle controllers work on the Atari 2600+? In this video, I put them to the test! I start by showing off the official 4-in-1 game pack, which included two paddle controllers, and then dive into each of the included games: Video Olympics, Canyon Bomber, Night Driver, and last but not least: Breakout!
I check for jitter, responsiveness, and overall feel-especially since past reports suggested that the Atari 7800+ handled paddles better than the 2600+. However, I find the performance surprisingly solid, possibly thanks to a firmware update, or due to Jeffrey not knowing how it is supposed to feel. Who knows 😂
Finally, we pop in Circus Atari, on of the games I really wanted paddles for, and play it on the Atari 2600+ for the first time! Let's see if the experience lives up to my expectations!

You should try Demons to Diamonds and Astroblast with the paddle controllers. Very fun!
Thanks for the suggestions! I don't think I have a Demons to Diamonds cart lying around, but now knowing Astroblast has paddle controller support I'll definitely revisit that one! Cheers!
Cool, finally you can play PONG in style! and with dignity🤣
PONG-ing in style is very very important! Yish! 😄
Circus Atari is the bomb. What firmware are you on? I found the paddles jittery on super breakout and Kaboom! There is some hardware update on the 7800+ to make paddles better. Here is hoping we get a updated 2600+ end of this year. If it improves paddles and load times, I am in.
I'm not an expert on these controllers, but it feels and looks okay I guess on the games I've been testing so far? I wish I had Kaboom to test.
I'm on 2.0.1.1 from the Beta forum. When I asked there earlier about my formerly failing Epyx Games collection cart, they said there was a new 2600+ Firmware release to be expected very soon. So let's see!
Hey Jeffrey! Awesome! You’ve got Paddles! Great video! You couldn’t have picked a better game to finish with, Circus Atari! You almost cleared the top row of Red Balloons! If you can clear that top row you get an extra clown! This game has very good gameplay, graphic animations and sound for a 2600 game! One of the best Paddle games in my opinion, very entertaining!
Cheers for stopping by Mr Chickenz! Yeah as you probably already could tell by now, I'm really really really excited for these paddles and indeed Circus Atari might just become one of my new favorite things on the system!
Thanks for the insight on the extra clown. I remember always being very focused on clearing those rows for points obviously, but the extra clown bit was erased from memory I guess. I played it somewhere around 2010 with a xbox 360 gamepad that had the paddle mechanics weirdly mapped to the analogue stick on the gamepad. It was my introduction to the game and already loved it back then. Happy to play it properly now!
@@LevelUpWithJeffrey Ha! It was erased from my memory banks as well! I mentioned it because I just recently read the manual!🤣
Cheats! 😂
