    Blockley? Unspoiled? That cafe and shop used to be a Cotswold stone toilet block.
    All around, one can see where people cashed in and put mini housing estates on their front gardens! And... oh, BOY, you should've been there in the 60s and 70s! 4 pubs. 2 banks open full time. A post office/general store plus two other large convenience stores. 2 butchers, a hardware store, toy/sweet shop with newsagent and a chemist... a couple of cobblers, 2 independent greengrocers and a couple of bakeries.
    Furthermore, two hairdressers and a barber!
    The place was alive!
    These days, it's a fossilised themepark filled with god knows who doing who knows what but only at the weekends.
    Such a lack of facilities that on that score, it's qualify as a TurdTown.

      Interesting to look at the financial history of most houses currently for sale in the Cotswolds. Whatever you bought in the late 90's for 200K will sell for close to 1M today.
      There's a house for sale in Blockley on one of the mini housing estates you refer to, with a common garden, swimming pool and tennis court (1K per month for maintenance?). I can't escape the feeling the whole village is sh*g hotel for the rich, just like you suggest.
      And let's not forget barn conversions. Plaster your pig stable, fit a few windows, kitchen and bathroom, and call it a medieval house.

    Live on the Gloucestershire/Warwick shire border so know all these towns except Tetbury very well as most are in the North Cotswolds.
    Few observations
    Stow-On-The-Wold - has huge traffic issues and is an absolute nightmare to drive through as it has major roads criss crossing through it. Locals use back roads to avoid this, would never live there.
    Moreton-In-Marsh - is actually a lovely place and more attractive than the video portrays. The market on Tuesdays is NOT worth a visit and is NOT large at all.
    Blockley - is a strange place. A village of second homes mainly it lacks any community atmosphere whenever I’ve visited and leaves me cold, Ilmington a Cotswold village in Warwickshire is far prettier and charming.
    Chipping Campden - Stunning town, my friend lives on the high street and The Volunteer Curry House there does delicious Indian food and the staff are great.
    Broadway should not be an honourable mention but should be on your list!! It’s beautiful especially the top half of the high street, it’s much nicer than Burford, which although has a lovely high street is constantly jammed up with traffic.
    Bourton On The Water - Sorry just too many tourists make it a place I could never live.

I went recently, never been, and thought as it appears to be a major landmark was shocked to be greeted with derelict buildings that once said "employment agency", then few chain shops in between empty "to let" shop spaces. whole place looks and feels unaccommodating and couldnt be there more than 1 hour before I have to leave, a true dump!

    I stayed in the cotswalds last week in an Airbnb. It was in chipping Norton. The lane down the back had a huge mansion and I wondered who lived there. Every day during the week a helicopter would take off and fly directly over our Airbnb and fly to Central London. I used to watch it on flight radar 24. On the Saturday before we left I saw the same helicopter take off from the mansion, fly over our Airbnb and land at Oxford Airport a few minutes later. A plane then took off a few minutes later and went to the USA. No idea who lives there. Probably a royal or maybe an MP?

    • @MonsterJuiced
      @MonsterJuiced Год назад +1

      Best option nowadays is to literally do it yourself. Start your own business and sell to the world. Get into trade and be a sole trader. Trying to get employed now is too difficult, chances are extremely slim. You have to maximise your skill or learn some valuable skills you can sell. And sell to the rest of the world not your neighbours. Being able to afford a house on bar work for the rest of your life just isn't possible. Working at Iceland full time doesn't even afford you a house either. Self employment is the way forward and use AI as much as you can to make your life easier. It's sad but that's just how it is

    • @FTFLCY
      @FTFLCY Год назад +2

      @@MonsterJuiced The key is to build something you can sell when you want to retire. I know loads of self employed folk who do really well, but when they want to stop, so does their money flow. I built a company (industrial supply chain) which though only small, could carry on without me. I sold it to my employees for enough to give me a very comfy retirement.

    If you research your birth town, you'll find most places in the UK looked like this. Most these towns aren't even that old - sure some buildings may be original - yet many buildings will be recreations of architectural eras. Posh = old money/established families.
