27th Annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup

The 27th annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup was held Saturday Feb. 26th on the Padre Island National Seashore south of Corpus Christi Texas.
Several hundred volunteers lined up with their 4 wheel drive vehicles on a cold, windy and rainy saturday morning to do our part to help make the beach a little better for all of us.
We were sent out in sections of about 10 vehicles each and our section was assigned a mile of beach to clean. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds were there to do their part.
The trash was bagged and loaded in the back of trucks and trailers then hauled back to the National Seashore headquarters where it was unloaded into dumpsters for proper disposal.
Captain Billy Sandifer was a surf fishing guide and had a passion for Padre Island. So much so that he became known as the Padre of Padre. Captain Billy passed away in 2018, but before his passing, he established a 501c3 nonprofit called the Friends of Padre. It's purpose is to organize and carry on the beach clean up in perpetuity and carry on Billy's legacy.
