I believe most of the unranked to gm is really to demonstrate how the character is capable of climbing solo if you perform properly with "bad" teammates. When someone's watching ML7, just picking a random name completely random, in gm, they believe the other high ranked players on his team are why hes winning games. They see him pocketing a Winston with a brigette bodyguard and think "my teammates in silver would never do that, that's why his games are better" and the series is to show, no, those same teammates you have, arent holding you back. It is over done but honestly I think supports are the only ones worth watching. Supports are so complicated and hard to carry with that seeing it in action makes a lot of things click.
I like mL7, but I see what y'all mean. But yeah, we don't need a hundred of them, but I'm glad one exists for each support hero. As a bad support, a lot of us do get caught in the trap of thinking we can't carry and rank up so we blame our team. Seeing Ana, Bap, and Reddit Lucio makes sense, just get your mechanics up. But seeing the Mercy, Brig, Moira, and even Zen unranked to GM is helpful kinda. I mean, a Mercy unranked to GM doesn't really hurt anyone unless it's a ton of pistol. But yeah, there's probably too many in general.
My biggest gripe with them is that if you don't want to improve, you simply won't. And most of the viewers don't actually watch it to improve, or even know what info to get out of it, they just watch it for content.
Negative. I agree that "bad" teammates don't hold you back sometimes, but it's difficult to say they don't when you're smurfing as a GM. Overwatch is a team based game, and your teammates will hold you back if they are not doing their job correctly. Everybody understands that, and the fact that a GM smurf has to carry to pick up the slack in those lobbies is hypocritical. If you really want to be educational, show yourself doing that in high rank lobbies. Carry in those lobbies, not ones where you're playing several ranks below your own. Watch the replay back with chat and explain why you made the decisions you made. It's that simple. You can't be educational when you're not getting punished for making mistakes. I feel like it clicks way better when the viewer sees you get punished for doing something stupid instead of a streamer saying, "Don't do that in high ranks, you'll die." Also, in GM lobbies, a support's job is infinitely harder than it is in lower ranks. Your resources are stretched thinner, you're put in way worse positions, and (like I said earlier) you get punished more for being too aggressive. That's my take.

@@diablotry5154 not really, you can also climb if you virtually never die and keep your team alive, pocketing a dps doesn't have that big of an impact below diamond in my experience anyway
@Annelie exactly, pocketing a dps doesn't have an impact in low ranks because mercy is reliant on her team mates. She has no carry potential, rather, she helps her team carry. The fact that she is the slowest healer in the game too doesn't help along with her poor offensive capabilities. For me un ranked to gm on characters I main is good bc I can understand how to position on certain maps. But if a youtuber made a full guide on every map with offence and defence for positioning I’d watch and learn from that. Sometimes playing into certain comps on maps idk good positioning on, is painful.
Omg THANK YOU! As a High Plat/Low Diamond player I think that smurfs are completely stupid and are ruining game balance in lobbies (if I get a gm boosting some bich in my lobby, the match just becomes useless). I also remember being stuck in gold, doing gold stuff and all of a sudden a wild smurf appeared in my lobby and the game was completely unplayable and not fun (whether he was on my or on the enemy team). It is such a low thing to do and FINALLY someone from a higher rank called them out. Thank you, Super ^^
I think what is missed on saying "it can be done educationally in gm too" is that the movement and positioning of GM players are completely different compared to in a match from bronze-diamond. No one positions perfectly or close to it, and when we, the 99% of the player base watches someone do unrankned to gm, we can see the GM players playing against people who are playing more close to what we see in a normal match. Jumping around with no purpose, running everywhere with no coordenation and so on, and we can see where we should follow up, what is right to do or not, whereas if i saw a GM match they wouldn't be doing those kind of things. I get it, it's hard to see from someone who is already at the top what difference it makes, however in my opinion unranked to gm, when done properly is super helpful.
the issue is that just teaches you bad habits that get exploited when you climb, better to just learn the good habits now and understand why they're standing where they are
I've been in low ranks before, and honestly you might learn a thing or 2 in the 10 hour unranked to GM video but the main reason to watch them is just to see your favorite streamer noob stomp. Its not like your gonna be able to copy what they did, not saying its completly non educational but lets be real it does wayyyyyy more damage to the game than it does any good.
when done properly is correct i think most people agree but a10 and awkward's unranked to gm is actually extremely helpful, i also get the point where people say why not just do vod reviews, yea vod reviews are helpful especially ones like the karq plat kiri one, but sometimes it's easier to see it in practice, as well as understand the thought process of high level players through unranked to gms
@@lopsidedanxiety4190 sometimes they can be helpful but doing an unranked to GM soldier only while i hit 80% of my shot and end the game with 60,000 damage is so helpful in showing me how to play the game. or Solo killing an entire team with wido honzo or soljourn oh boy how helpful
@@rare9242 exactly why unranked to gm is great, he shows even at low rank how his positioning is good. I love awkward s unranked to gm for this exact reason. Specially for supports, he shows how you should position, why it matters and shows his mistakes with positioning
As someone who started playing on ow2 release, I like watching awkwards unranked to gm because I can go to the rank I'm at, see how he plays vs how I play, analyze what he does differently in my rank and learn from the mistakes I wouldve made vs what he did to keep himself alive in those situations, and what the enemy team at my rank did wrong or right. it's not about whether I can hit the shots he does, I've learned flank routes and off angles I didnt know about, I've learned how to better utilize certain abilities, and how to get more value out of the characters I play. I think some unranked to gm videos absolutely are just to fuel egos but I dont think all of them are. I've genuinely improved after watching awkwards unranked to gm, but not everyone learns the same way; I'm a visual learner so I benefit greatly from these videos, but not everyone would.
Agreed, learned so much from his Kiriko gameplay especially how to effectively and safely flank, and his game sense. Also, even though many streamers prefer heal-bot over DPS Kiriko, it’s impossible to climb out of metal ranks by relying on teammates as a support. (Unless the person you commit your resources to actually carrying the game)
Totally agree, on all the points u made, i was really struggeling on ana and being new to fps games didnt help but after watching awkwards unranked to gm everything just kinda clicked and my rank sky rocketed
@@peterphanuwat5397 I would just like to say impact is what matters most, whether that comes from healing or damage whilst it’s a good thing to understand damage can be key it’s not the only thing that matters. Not peeking and staying alive is huge. As flats said a mercy, with zero deaths is a good mercy.
I do actually learn from unranked to gm videos as a metal rank. I’ll watch what the person does at my rank and the higher ranks and compare them and mimic it. I also tend to learn less from high level gameplay bc it isn’t realistic to my rank. I’ve ranked up a lot with the help of those videos so I would say they are still educational.
@@William256 It's not just that really, especially when it comes to Moira or brig unranked to gm there is no aim, like, at all. So they can't just dog on everyone. In gm however you could chalk every situation up to they had better aim/you coulda aimed better,so it's not that enjoyable. Gothamchess, a chess RUclipsr does Elo climbs (Which are refunded) and I find them incredibly informative, espically since he points out the mistakes of the enemy (Could be you) and plays like that Elo not running any complicated openings like a dragon. I typically skip to the rank I'm in, the rank just below me, and one above and it really taught me a lot, just like these unranked to GM's. Another thing you probably haven't considered in your statement on doing it in gm games is the pace that they can talk, they can't explain microdecisions if theyre getting blasted in the a ss and tryharding. Not even the best could explain everything, and let's face it you're not going to get a creator ( For free) to sit down and vos review hundreds of games in one video. I've watched a couple, maybe 10 hours all comvined, and can say they are enjoyable and educationally to me. If you don't like them because there unfair or whatever then it sucks to suck, it's one game and unless your in master or above your going to lose a couple matches, that's why they stop at gm not too 500 I imagine (Also length). Because that's when the serious problem is. if your a victim of losing to one of these players and there not playing anyone solely on aim like hanzo, widow, genji, tracer, then it's a phenomenal learning opportunity. Because at the end of the day these people are still losing games, it dosent happen much but it happens. It goes to show that even if you have a gm in your team if your team eats twigs and dirt for breakfast, your still going to lose. I've had a match where I headshoted three people on my own as hanzo and died, and we lost the point. In 5v5 mind you. And no we didn't die to like nano genji or something and I can't remember what it was from but it was definitely not good play but instead because my team likes to eat rocks.
I share the same sentiments about people who smurf. (Not an ult, a smurf) Super is speaking facts. What do we gain besides ego when we beat up on middle schoolers.....
Imagine a black belt karate teacher goes to a kid’s karate tournament and starts slamming them all into the ground then says “So right here we’re doing a Miyazaki chokehold, im going to hold his head down while I wrap my arm around his neck”
I want to see an unranked to gm where the gm has like heavy setbacks when they start that they can remove as they rank up. in example: at bronze / unranked they have to limit fps to like 25, use 10k dpi, no voice chat, no sound and then when they get to silver they return one of those to normal (except aim, thats not allowed until plat or diamond bc i dont care about seeing a gm farm a bronze)

Thank you, Super ^^
babe wake up new super video
i'm lowkey so glad he said this
Ngl I learned more from super playing rein in GM than anyone doing a unranked to GM
That widow gave off jimmy vibes
THAT CLIP OF SUPER DANCING 😭😭
Honestly i think Flats and Emongg havent done one of these before, that kinda makes me proud
We all know that he is scared of the might of plat players. No one is willing to face them
another great video from Mathew "carried by editor" Delisi
Super was 100% once a kid before.
Wake up babe stefayy posted a new video of my favourite streamer throwing ranked
1:53 stefayy goated
This didnt last long!
Editor has a death wish for Super
Super is barely NOT telling his teammates to... LTG
I do actually learn from unranked to gm videos as a metal rank. I’ll watch what the person does at my rank and the higher ranks and compare them and mimic it. I also tend to learn less from high level gameplay bc it isn’t realistic to my rank. I’ve ranked up a lot with the help of those videos so I would say they are still educational.
super's next video: unranked to gm sponsored by coca cola
I always remember Doublelift comparing smurfing to Lebron James dunking on middleschool kids at the playground
Am unranked to GM would be hilarious because he would meet all his fans in gold
I like unranked to gm because the creator will show you how to manuever against matchups like zen vs tracer or a better example Orisa vs Zarya.
Which they can already do in GM
That ml7 diss should start a diss track war that’ll be more exciting than most overwatch content
super when hes playing a role that literally has the power of 3 heroes from the other roles combined and has better stats than them ":0"
I share the same sentiments about people who smurf. (Not an ult, a smurf) Super is speaking facts. What do we gain besides ego when we beat up on middle schoolers.....
heard this dude failed his driving test ellem ayooooooo 😭
super vs the world this whole video lmao
Anybody else at first think it was tom scott holding the gun at 1:53?
I've been working on my Unranked to GM for 6 years now 🤓Almost half-way there!
super got that shroud build
jesse gunshot was the funniest shit ever lmfao
Imagine a black belt karate teacher goes to a kid’s karate tournament and starts slamming them all into the ground then says “So right here we’re doing a Miyazaki chokehold, im going to hold his head down while I wrap my arm around his neck”
i'd be alright with that content though. that would be super fun to watch
Horrible take LOL

I was not expecting to see my man Jev
The best tank in owl history is good is this a surprise?
didn't realize bumper was in this video
The only unranked to gm that is educational for me is when a Mercy main plays.
I want to see an unranked to gm where the gm has like heavy setbacks when they start that they can remove as they rank up.
in example: at bronze / unranked they have to limit fps to like 25, use 10k dpi, no voice chat, no sound and then when they get to silver they return one of those to normal
(except aim, thats not allowed until plat or diamond bc i dont care about seeing a gm farm a bronze)
Super is just scared that he can’t do it
super gotta try unranked to owl 👀
Editor comin for some heads in this one
metro hasnt gotten to gm since ow1
season 1 ow1
Super doesn’t do unranked to GM runs because he’s afraid to get tank gapped by me in gold 😈
1:15 funniest clip I’ve seen xD
this video gave me second hand rage
Real reason Super wont do a unranked to gm is bc he would get stuck in plat
