I always thought Burton was referencing someone trying to take your "will" to survive away and saying "NO!" in defiance. I thought the Will Nazi was very Fear Factory-ish in how their lyrics and themes play on each other.

i have always been a huge fan of FEAR FACTORY & this is 2019 their music will never ever die & will always live on 4-eternity. FEAR FACTORY always fucking RULES. oh hell yeah.
I remember being initially disappointed with the massive nu metal influences and the somewhat tired sound but over time it has grown on me and I have appreciated it's songwriting. Especially the ambient U2 influences on Invisible Wounds.

But if you want a specific answer, then stay with me here…. There are quite a few single note open riffs in on several songs such as on What Will Become and Linchpin and there is a a more emphasised groove type rhythm on many songs which is typical of nu metal. And most of all, where is the absolutely brutal and bludgeoning death metal-esque tone that crushes you like on the first three albums? There is next to no such heaviness like that on this album. It is still a nice album though, it is just a different flavour.

With Digimortal, I think they pretty much adapted their sound/style to match what was going on musically at the time.
Korn was also like the band that created nu metal. Bands like Faith No More has been one of the founders of alternative metal. Primus, White Zombie, and Helmet also came along before Korn released their first album.
