70 yr young guy here, and just want to say that I am now a big fan of Miley. Like a lot of other holier-than-thou boomers I used to look down my nose at her, with her crazy antics and over sexualized performances. BUT then I saw her perform straight ahead rock music on SNL and I immediately clamped down my prejudices and said to my wife that if Miley wanted to she could be a kick ass rock singer. THEN I came across her performance of Nothing Else Matters that she did live on the Howard Stern Show, WITH Metallica and she effing killed it. As you say, her journey through artistry, her willingness to display her vulnerability as well as her redemption story, and the sincerity of her journey the way she puts it out there for all to see. Good for her, and good for you Brit!

I'm a dude...I feel connected to Miley for the exact reasons you stated. She's had that life and shows all of us you can rise above and prevail. I would never think I would find inspiration from her but I do. I'm sure she could have given up a hundred times but came back stronger than ever. She's real and refreshening.

Miley is a born performer, she can sing anything, I too have watched her journey rise from childhood, making her stamp on the world but she is also a sweet person. Yes she needs to keep in shape for her acts on stage, she calls out anyone just like her Godmother Dolly! She is strong and a cool inspiration for womankind. I was 10 turning 11 in June when Hannah Montana came out March 2006 sooooo happy she has 2 Grammys finally!!!! She’s only a month older than my older sister. Bangrz album came out my Senior Year and our Senior rivalry week shirts with 1 of our 2 rivals (Raiders) was our mascot Dolphin on a Wrecking Ball with a foam finger crashing into their Raider (basically Pirate) ship still have the shirt. Can’t believe her album that came out my Senior Year is 10 years old. Loved her ever since Hannah Montana saw the movie 2 in theaters once by myself and pre ordered Bangerz because Wrecking Ball and We Can’t Stop were so good.

While I'm not a fan of Miley's pop stuff. When she goes off-script she's amazing. (Unlike Taylor who struggles to stay on key)Her cover of Joline, Zombie, The Cure's Boys Don't Cry, and Janis Joplin's Maybe are arguably as good as the original. You're 100% correct she has a great voice.
I think if you listen to her before & after vocal surgery you can tell the difference & improvement. Basically she had to learn to sing again afterwards and from a few interviews here & there I suspect she has really worked to improve her instrument & understand it better than when she was younger.
You couldn't resist taking a shot at Taylor? Miley wouldn't approve. How many artists can sing three and a half hours night after night? Learn to compliment one without insulting another. I love them both, and they like each other. #shameonyou
