There are a fair few shows in the southeast US nowadays, this just happened to be the closest to me. It sounds like the shows in Georgia and South Florida are a good bit larger than the one we had here. But it was the first show here

I saw some of these at Atlanta brick con. Some sweet buolds for sure! I've been to brick universe in both Knoxville and Chattanooga on and off since 2017, and it definitely depends on who can make it that year. The Tennessee Valley Lego Club is a lot of the non professionals you're looking for, and they dont always have a presence at the ones I've been to. The Chattanooga one got pushed for weather, and a lot of exhibitors weren't able to make it. So it was a bit of a let down. Brick universe is inconsistent, but also they have some great gems depending on your location. So I would say don't give up hope on them unless you've been a few times, and its consistently lackluster.
I only went to Brick Universe the first year it was here. I would be curious if there were more non-professionals the second year. It's definitely better than Brick Fest Live! Brick Fan Expo is just a totally different vibe and more of what I'm looking for, I really enjoyed the non-public hours and events they had. I went for at least a few hours all three days and kind of wish I had spent more time there 😅

I’m in Orlando and was going to go to all three of these Florida shows but decided to skip Jacksonville, definitely going to Orlando and possibly Tampa. I had seen several of these builds recently at “Brick Convention” in Kissimmee a couple months ago so couldn’t bring myself to make the 2.5 hour drive to J-ville. I think the better show to go to is Atlanta Brick Con (same show producers), Peach LUG is far and away filled with some really great builders as opposed to GFlug.
Jacksonville was the smallest show by far from what I heard. Still I had a blast but I didn't have far to drive. Atlanta is the show I've wanted to go to for years but have never been able to. There are a ton of builders in Peach Lug I'd love to meet in person
I wish I could, Jacksonville is really the only one that's close enough to me to attend for now. Hoping I'll have a bit more freedom to travel more in the future
