Thing the game never really tells you, if I remember, you can't be crit if you're guarding. Worth remembering when the enemy gathers Magatsuhi.

This is a really important one. Also, a good strategy is to reapply buffs/debuffs when the icon is flashing, as it'll both restart the timer AND increase the rank of the buff/debuff.

I don't know if you'll read this, this is just gameplay tips. This is based on my ostensible testing with SMTV, with over 20 newgame+ of accruing enough balms and incenses along with me beating Veangence already and testing these theories along the way:
Strength: This stat raises your strength-based and physical skills, but it looks nerfed from the previous game from my own opinion (could be just vibes). It's less impactful than before but still essential for physical builds.
Vitality: This is surprisingly the most important stat. It significantly reduces the damage you take from attacks. Not only that, it has a hidden mechanic If your vitality is four times higher than the enemy's strength or magic stat, you'll take what's considered 'minimal' damage. There's a threshold of 400 vitality that can invalidate most enemies' attacks on hard difficulty. Vitality is the key to surviving tough encounters (Though I doubt you guys will do the more difficult optional challenges).
Magic: This stat boosts your magical attacks, similar to how strength boosts physical attacks. Same with strength, it looks to be nerfed as to how the stat affects damage, however magic builds are very compelling in this new version, unlike the old one where strength builds were by far superior.
Agility: This is mainly important for accuracy-based physical spells like Megaton Press and Figment Slash, which have a 50% chance to miss. Agility doesn't significantly improve dodging or any other metric. The game provides enough agility naturally, so investing points here is often unnecessary. So, this can be considered an actual dead stat, unless you know what you're doing.
Luck: This stat affects the likelihood of status ailments hitting enemies. However, unless you reach extremely high levels (400-600 luck), it won't guarantee success, especially to many bosses that are resistant to ailments. Luck is generally the least useful stat unless you're running a specific status ailment-focused build. I will probably try poison Nahobino sometime soon to see if it's worth. Same as before, unless ailment build, actual dead stat.
In conclusion, the optimal path for most builds is to choose either a magic or strength focus and heavily invest in vitality. Agility and luck can be mostly ignored unless you have a specific build that requires them. Since you guys are going a more balanced build, I'd suggest dropping agility and luck out of the race.
Unlike Persona, you can level your stats in this game beyond 99, the actual limit is 999, however you won't see a stat going past the 200s, unless you want to unlock Godborn difficulty.
Finally, a tip, you will receive Balms (MC stat boosts) and Incenses (Demon stat boost) items throughout your playthrough. Save ALL your Incense items, and especially !Sutra! items, never use them until endgame. You only get a dozen or so Sutras in a playthrough and 20 or so Incenses (This game is stingy as f-- with them), wasting it on early demons is bad. Use it on your final demons.

If you want the numbers, Charge and Concentrate multiply damage by 1.8x in this game, or at least in vanilla. They might do 2x in this version. They’re more an MP saving measure than an ideal strat. It’s better if you can get the charged hit off in the same round of turns

A couple of tips for conserving action economy is that you almost always want your weakness hitting or crit hitting demons as first and third position or first and second. This allows you get maximum 8 press turns every turn and you can place your support/physical tank demons as 2nd and 4th position. This setup works really well because even if you don't want to attack with your first demon, you can pass or change, consume only 1 press turn and allow your second party member to use an item, heal or use support moves. In general, you usually want all party members to get 2 turns, and via passing, you can make sure that specific demons the chance to act twice. For example, my setup is that I may have an electric demon as first to hit weaknesses, then I have Nahobino as second to do support moves, and physical attacks, then I have my third demon as also electric and then my 4th demon as a physical tank who draws aggro, does physical attacks, debuffs and so on. The beauty of passing is that it also allows you guard with specific demons and prevent them giving the enemy from hitting their weakness. For instance, your first demon is weak to ice and so you can pass with your 4th demon and guarantee be able to guard with your first demon while still letting your 2nd, 3rd and 4th demon act twice. Finally, unless you can use a dampener or kill the enemy first, when they pop their magatsuhi attack, 9/10 times you will want to guard with your whole party. Before guarding, you can go through 4 press turns (weakness or crit hits) to maximize damage and then be able to safely protect your team.
Sorry for the long comment, enjoying the videos though and looking forward to more!

Totally picked up the "Mambo #5" reference right away. My advice to you guys is that you're trying to play aggressively while underpowered and not prepared for boss fights. She gave you ample hints that she was a "water goddess", so most most your party should have been resistant to water (or ice in this game). The Mahama thrown in is a classic curveball. If you go in without it, you're just a glutton for punishment, and and the game will ruthlessly take advantage of it, even on "normal" difficulty. The world of SMT is definitely a wild one not for the faint of heart, but once you learn to tame it to a manageable degree (aka understand the game mechanics), it's amazing. Stick with it and good luck! Oh and Evan, maybe not out loud, but make you you read and understand everything unless you're trying for a hail Mary...you'll die less.

Yeah you don't really wanna activate the critical magatsuhi skill when the enemy gathers theirs. Unless you can kill them, that's kinda the worst time to do it. The critical skill is best used when you know the enemy can't do much to you on their next turn.
When the enemy gathers magatsuhi, they're either going to use a special attack, make all their attacks crit, or both. That's when you usually wanna guard.

So uh, a question I've been having since Demon Hunts were introduced. Can you not gift things to your demons, unlocking special dialogue akin to social links of sorts? Cuz that's what I gathered when the tutorial for that happened and some comments in other videos and stuff, but the Pixel Partners pretty much haven't at all interacted with that for me to confirm.

    • @42Caio
      @42Caio 13 дней назад

Sorta. There's generic dialogue shared by similar demons and unique dialogue for each demon species, but it's nothing as complex as a social link system. The more they stay in your party a hidden value (like an affection or friendship stat) goes up and unlock conversations marked with an exclamation mark. Those are the ones where they either give you a gift or powe up (getting stat boostd, affinity boosts or nee skills). Those are however nothing special dialogue wise, demons will often say more interesting stuff in their regular ones (and it can be pretty funny, a shame they aren't checking uo on it more) while the level up one is generic "I want to get stronger for you" stuff.
Gifts only speed up the proccess.
