Derek, I love the easy comradery of the group that you captured in the video. It is uplifting and inspiring!
Loving the videos Derek its like therapy following you and getting an insight into your journey with the group, thank you for sharing.
Im binge watching your videos!!! There's something about you capturing the essence of everything. Great job!
I love your videos, Ivy! Thank you so much for making these - wishing ya’ll the very best from Angela in North Carolina!
You are looking very contented Derek. I admire the Mam, she shows great courage for taking on this adventure. Mother's guilt can be crippling but she is right, her children will draw from her strength, and that is a great feeling.
"Lord of Hiking: The fellowship of the Appalachian Trail" 😊 Have a happy and safe trail dear Derek and all in the group! ❤ Sylvia, Greece
What a lovely video Derek. What a great team to be walking with also. Sorry to hear you have had to end your AT. All the best mate. 👍
So proud of Carly as she takes this trek!
And what an inspiring Mom! I’m a mom of 2 and the guilt is so real. Way to teach her kiddos how to be strong, resilient and lead. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to keeping up the group!
Im at a point in my life where the current way things are going isnt really working out. The past decade hasn't been kind to me. And since i have the unique ability to do whatever i want since i have no children, my fiance is no longer with us, most family is no longer with us, im the only one left out of my gang of life long friends and its just me, everyday just me. Ive defaulted to a hermit type nomadic lifestyle and i cant stand over populated city areas. Been thinking bout doing the whole trail since im in Florida... The idea gets more enticing by the hour... Ive got to do something and i think its something many people wanna do but cant cause the tangles of "normal" modern life.. why not right? I have nothing to lose
You’ve made a beautiful video here, Derek. Those last few minutes capturing peoples’s reasons with the background music and then those clips of smiles, moments and emotions was perfect, Good Job ❤
💜Back to your best Derek.
I love that trip style, we can meet many different people and mindsets. It's pretty good.
You meet people of all ages, sizes and backgrounds out here 🙏
I wish I could be fearless like you man! Living the dream!
ALL GOOD 👣💕
Great follow u. I’ve watched many AT videos, because I’m going to do it as soon as I can. This is the 1st one whet the groups dynamic’s are shown. Keep it up

Ha... I saw that look.....
🖐🏻☺️🙏❤️. Love the video.
Looks like you’re having a blast 💥
Some man for one man. 👏👏👏 May the force be with you. 👍👍👍
I enjoy reading about your journey every day! I wish I were younger and could even attempt to walk that far. Wishing you and everyone the very best. Love, from Canada.
Thank you Kathleen :) FYI I would say at least half of the thruhikers I have met attempting the full trail are in their 50s, 60s and 70s. And Most of them have little to no experience with hiking ✨
Thank you.
You're walking with my friend Emilia!!! Tell her Mrs. Heidorn says Hi!
Hey 👋 I will of course and thank you for watching :)
Hi Derek, so enjoying your videos. Great to see you enjoying everyone's company and friendship. Happy trails. 😊
Thank you 🙏
As someone who lives in a country that doesn't have bears, I always find it astounding just how blaise people who live in countries that do have them are.
I live in the bay area. No bears but have hiked/backpacked throughout the Sierras. I've seen bears about 20 times, mostly going around cabin areas and yosemite a few times on the trail. They break into cabins and look for food. They have always run away. Grizzles are different so in places like MT you need bear spray when you hike. Yellowstone is great for bears. I saw 8 including a Grizzle across a huge meadow. Go to Yellowstone if you want to see a bear in the wild.
Grizzlies are more worrisome than black bears. Black bears are more fearful...unless it's a mother bear.
🙏❤️🙏
So loving the way this adventure is going!
Me too 😊
Thanks Derek for sharing your walk about. I cant walk as well as you but I'm enjoying your time in the woods. To God be the glory. Steffon in western NC.
Looks like a nice group you're hiking with

Hey Derek. When ya get to Tennessee if you need some trail magic hit me up. I’d love to help yall.
💜
HELLO YOU..............dear Derek, you have a funny group,...............take care of you,say hello to the others.....Blessings and Greetings from Daggy,Kiel,Germany☘☘☘
Hello Daggy and yes they are a very funny bunch of humans !!
😎✌
I'm just a weekend backpacker, but I feel that mom guilt she spoke of. My husband and daughter don't enjoy hiking, but they know I do and don't mind me going despite worrying about me. I told them I worry about them.
How do bears make the difference between food food in the bags and human food in the tents ?
We smell pretty bad 😂 on a serious note, I suspect, like all predators, they have come to realise through evolution that they need to be cautious around humans and there is too much risk/effort involved when it comes to hunting a human 😊
Please come back and get me Derek 😁💚
Haha 😊
What do you think about❤
Hey you! Am wondering about snakes and seeing the one young lady in particular going about without long pants. I didn't notice if others were wearing shorts etc. But when I lived in Tennessee we always wore long, loose pants when out in the woods to cut down on the chances of snakebite (hoping the 'strike' would get caught up in the loose pants fabric instead of sinking into flesh). This time of year I suppose they are sluggish but what is the plan about that?
Hi Dianne. Most of us wear shorts and always keep a close eye out for snakes 🙏
What's your trail name Derek?
What is your trail nickname?
I don’t have one yet…none of us do…but I’m sure we will when the time is right :)
' Cú Chulainn's ' would be very apt, before they call you Paddy 🙄 Maybe if you tell them the story of Cú Chulainn, they might give you the name. Just Cu in front of your surname, and you have it. Really nice chilled video 🏕️
Can you recording at night?
I’d be really annoyed having to spend time with all those people, dipping in and out wouldn’t be too bad but fuck me there’s a few irritations there
ABC Bro…..Always Be Chill’in!
It will be nice to see some leaves on those trees…
seem like a nice crowd. have you got yourself a trail name yet or is that something dubbed on you by your trailmates? do you carry any kind of bear repellent or do you just rely on being able to run faster than the rest of your group?
I don’t carry any bear spray (none of us do) and no trailname yet. Lots of names being thrown around but waiting for the right one to come about :)
Let us know when your in NY. My wife and I watch you hiking Ireland videos and live in NY.
Looks like a great bunch of people. Mixed bag but everyone getting on, what more could you ask? You seem in your element! Keep going and enjoy!! 🏕️
Amazing video Derek ... thank you !
Jeanette Branch
Is the lady with kids just walking a section?
Nope she is walking the full AT 2190 miles 😊
So relaxed 🙏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Great stuff,Derek
My cousin Ben is in your group, right now! It's great to see all of you enjoying the trail.
Looks so fun. Jealous!
