  • In July 1984, two men seized control over a Venezuelan Douglas DC-9 as it flew to the Dutch Caribbean Island of Curaçao. After the plane landed on the island, negotiations were initiated to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis. However, just under 48 hours later, a detachment of Venezuelan Commandos were authorised to moved up and regain control of the DC-9 through the use of force.

    Good riddance. Great job on difficult operation. The dc-9 is a very cramped aircraft I can tell you that from first hand experience. The fact that they were able to get on board and take care of their mission amazes me.

    plane hijacks have been going on for many years. Smuggling weapons into an airplane wasn't that hard. The cockpit door was a simple door and was sometimes just open. That airlines have allowed this terrible safety situation to continue for years remains bizarre

    • @user-rf9mx4qf7z
      @user-rf9mx4qf7z Год назад +2

      They really haven't allowed it to continue. The number of hijackings has been declining for decades, to the point that since 2010 there have been 18 hijackings worldwide (I don't count the Ryanair jet intercepted by Belarus, that's really its own category). There hasn't been a successful hijacking in the US since 9/11.
