The drive the elbow tends to lead to high and outward moving hands and side tilt away from the target coming into impact (as occurred in your example movements). A movement when the hands and arms work straight down from the top or even in more of a throw the hands under the shoulder sockets (Pete Cowen and his instructor's style) where the rear arm straightens, and the hands gain distance and separation from the rear shoulder on the way down are more of the movement seen from good ball striking tour pros. The ball between the arms (maintaining elbow width throughout the swing) is an excellent drill that should be of benefit to most golfers to practice.
