Always love your content, your voice is very relaxing after a stressful Monday at work! I once had a 6 month project in Northampton, staying in various souless businessy hotels Monday to Friday (such were the joys of being a pre Covid management consultant), was a much bigger fan of the countryside around than the city. I actually quit that job after that project finished, went to Kigali for 4 months in Kaciyru and proposed to my then fiancé
The thing that becomes noticable when I'm looking at other developed cities is the absence of Motorcycle taxis (you know, motos). When you mentioned you had no clue where you were, I thought, "Why not just hop on a moto and give the driver a landmark to aim for? Problem solved!" But then it hit me that there were no motos in sight So, yeah, you better pray your GPS is on its best behavior, and luckily, it came through this time!
I miss motos very much when I come back. Especially living in a village where we don't have a bus service anymore. It's hard to get to places when you don't have a car or if you just want to pop to the next village over and have a drink with friends. But I wouldn't have been able to get my bags on a moto - that large one was very heavy. Plus, the weather here can change very quickly. It's the middle of summer today but it feels like autumn - very cold and about to rain. Between the weather and the cost of insurance, motos aren't really practical in the UK. I’m looking forward to the day when automatic cars are a thing and you can just get into one at the airport and get out wherever you want to go. Think it'll be a while before that happens, though 🤞
Hay i plan to drive from Doncaster to south Africa definitely doing Rwanda. How is the food in kigali like? any nice places you reco for a visit? thanks
Lots of international restaurants in Kigali. Khazana Indian is always a favourite, and try the beer at Kweza Women's Brewery. Local cuisine is melange, which is a buffet of rice, beans, chips, noodles, cassava leaves (isombe), meat and fish. Brochettes are a firm favourite (meat on a stick: goat, beef or fish). Zingalo is the national delicacy (goat intestine on a skewer). Check out my playlists 'Day Trips in Kigali' and 'Weekend Trips in Rwanda' for sightseeing suggestions.
