Prospective AT hikers should pay close attention to the end of Jay's videos where he notes his mileage for the day. He's a veteran thru hiker and he's still taking it easy on day 17. That's how you avoid ending a hike by injuring yourself from overdoing it.
    Semper Fi, Jay

Hey Jay! Loved the MacGyvering you did for the lens cap! Glad you were able to source one. As the producer/cinematographer/ and editor you can always pick when you wanna do a voice over day. We did love it, but you’re right, it’s not the same if it’s forced. I use a bosu ball to work on my ankles. I also live in New England which forces you to get stronger! When I did the monadnock Sunapee greenway trail, the trail was leaf covered, and my step count was up 20% due to me taking shorter steps. Leaves are tough for sure! Such epic b-roll today. You have a real gift my friend, and we are so lucky. Beautiful shelter, but I agree I wouldn’t sleep in it. Don’t fret about the shorter day. The universe wanted this to be your day for some reason. You have plenty of days to make up whatever you think you lost. I hope it was a great evening and you got to rest your body and mind some. Looked like a great place to do it. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.
    -Grateful

I forgot to mention when I watched this the other day about the little skinny ‘snow’. It is most likely hoar frost that formed on the trees then flaked off with the breeze. Hoar Frost forms when there is high humidity and freezing temps and it’s fairly calm. It looks like it is snowing when the frost particles blow off branches, even with clear skies. Happens here several times especially in early and late winter. Excellent video and commentary as usual!

Jay, loving the videos! Keep up the great work.
You should get the App called "Peak Finder". It uses your location and the camera on your phone to determine what peaks you're looking at. The App will point to and list all of the mountains, balds, etc. that you're looking at. Great App. I use it often. If you have the App you won't have to wonder what mountains you're looking at.

Hi Jay - that vine is grapevine.. It grows all up trees and such. It's what so many wreaths are made from as it is very flexible. Yea on arriving so close to the Smokies (my neck of the woods)! 😊

Oh, and one note to add... If you see a vine that looks almost furry, don't touch it.. It's poison Ivey and will. Eat. You. Up!! Don't pet it! I once saw a person doing just that in Cades Cove.. 🙁

I like the mixed format of a certain amount of dialog combined with the cinematic B-roll. Your slower days aren't wasted. You're still very early in your hike. I've heard several AT vloggers say they really wished they had gone a bit slower and enjoyed all the beautiful locations and nicer shelter areas rather than hurrying and obsessing over miles. You're doing well with miles in any event.

Your videos are among the best ive watched here..plus you dont add assinine music like so many prospective hikers do which ruin their videos. You are so upbeat in every video that I hope you dont lose it along the way. I begin my 3rd thruhike of the AT starting April first but it would have been a pleasure to meet you out there...maybe hike with you for a bit, as well
I admire and respect upbeat people and there is no one else that I enjoy hiking with than people like yourself. I wish you the very best of luck and joy on this hike. Of all the videos Ive watched youre the one, barring injury, that I have no doubt will make it all the way. My first rhruhike was tough and, odd as it may sound, the second one was tougher!!.. probably because I had already done it. Stay cheerful and keep these wonderful videos coming for all those who get joy from watching them. So many start this Trail but so few finish it...but I have no doubt that you will be among those few who summit that final peak.

Your calm is appreciated ... was not aware of time limits through stretches of boundary's ,,. but with others making comments would make me stop short just to avoid the crowds .... weather patterns are mystical ,, where I like to backpack at altitude the afternoon snows come as small BB size pellets ,, then a couple hours later ,the sun returns with a big smile and warmth just to let you know who really is in control ... always a Thank You for sharing your trail time and the work it takes to pass it on .... That rice snow is a form of graupel…ice pellets or snowflakes rise and fall within a cloud collecting moisture on the way down and refreezing as it goes up. It eventually falls to earth when it gets too heavy. Graupel is usually roundish but sometimes forms into little grains when swirling wind conditions in the cloud are right.

You asked if trail maintenaners rake leaves off the trail. The trail club I'm involved with in Virginia has been using a back pack blower for the past 3 years in certain sections of trail to clear the leaves. Theory is to clear out the uphill side so hikers aren't pushed to the downhill side of the trail which eventually pushes the trail down the side of the mountain. Seems to be working wonderfully and as a bonus makes the trail much safer.

Another great video! Your sound quality on the trail is top notch. I've got to check you electronics video again to see what you are using for your sound.
