- This is part 8 of our brand new series I'm calling CUSTOM or CLASSIC! I am taking two identical cars and restoring one ORIGINAL and one MODIFIED, which one will bring me back more money when I sell them and which one will you like the most?

Finally, 2.0L Duratec will do nicely! Probably the strongest petrol engine Ford have made for a looooong time! ...and the X-Pack kits where proper lush!!

When I first came across your channel and viewed a couple of videos I have to say I was not very keen, I thought you were just another chop it merchant. But when I watched the MK1 escort being restored boy was I wrong you really do things properly. I myself have been in the motor trade for 30+years as a mechanic may I add, and restored vintage stuff with my late farther and also into the custom scene and I have seen my fair share of turds with golden crowns on built or restored by people who in the scene have a great reputation (a couple of them were on TV).it is a breath of fresh air to see a small team of people who clearly get on well and do superb proper job to me the videos are not long enough but great nether the less I am subscribed and will be buying raffle tickets keep up the great work.

Welcome back lads, you have been missed. I am really a traditionalist when it comes to the Escort, but as you already have the 1600 sport Mk 2 then I think this will be an easy driver with a duratec engine, smooth but got nags of power when you want it. Liking the editing, its got a bit of humour in it, keep up the good work. Oh and by the way I cant wait to get a raffle ticket or 3!

Already watched it - I want more! Enjoyed it. I think 200-220bhp, nice diff, 4 link or watts link is the way to go on this one. You guys always do something a bit different so stay with that and surprise us all with the performance and looks.

Nice to see you back lads! Good choice of engine but you might want to reconsider your choice of gearbox and axle! NC MX5s have a great gearbox that bolts right up to a duratec as that's what they have fitted as standard. Go for the 5 speed as it's cheaper and the ratios are better. An English axle will cope with the power for a bit but it'll shit itself sooner or later so you might want to consider something a bit stronger such as narrowed Atlas or Volvo axle.

You can now buy a complete brand new Chinese made 2 door MK2 bodyshell with bonnet boot and doors circa £7000, how about giving that a try on the next one . Great videos . Nice docile road car is all you need these days .

Personally I would like a torquey 2.3L duratec engine coupled to a 6 speed gearbox. The extra capacity would give it the low down grunt that it needs..I don't know if such a gearbox is available but it could be a feature of the build
Hey Boys , glad your back ! Though about using a Mazda N7 gearbox ? bolts straight up to the duratec and much stronger than a type 9

Yes the GTA was a restoration roulette gone wrong unfortunately, things a shed and wouldn’t of been done in a month. It’ll be on in the future I’d expect 👍
@@ODDAutos I know for one thing they can rot like a bxxxxxd underneath the plastic panelling and rocking horse poop is easier to get hold of than some of the parts - sounds like your example is a bit of a challenge!

I'm 8 minutes in video (so not sure if this gets addressed later) but you probably should work from the back quarter, door then front quarter at least when fitting panels (On a 2 door). It might be better in the long run to get panel gaps correct (Dont forget to install rubber seals in door arches when doing this). Good stuff so far, get up the great work!
@@keithoddautos5044 No Problem. I just thought I better say something in case the worst happened (The panels out of alignment and requiring adjusting. Using the jig I have confidence in rail, inner wing and suspension geometry)
Think the doors were on and off 50 times lol, takes ages now to line everything but saves time later on in the build 👍

Good luck, if you want a nice daily driver scrap the cage and harnesses, they wear thin really quickly and you don’t need them.
It’ll still have enough poke to get sideways so will probably keep them but make it so it’s easy to get in and out etc 👍
@@keithoddautos5044 maybe a decent safety devices bolt in half cage and inertias as well as harness for convenience is an option, we go this route on the road class sprint cars. Your raffle winner then has the option to keep or remove if the inertia works with the seats.

Use the mx5 n7 box far better ratios then the type 9 and it will bolt straight to the engine

The panel fit of these reproduction panels is absolutely crap, must be a real f””king pain in the bum 💪💪💪
IMHO you don't sand down fly rust, especially not with a grid 80. Of course the right one to go is putting up a rust converter, which also doubles as a sticky layer, then prevent with red oxide primer, then you don't need to use a filler at all. Oh, in between courses of course you sand down with 250 grid or up. But I'm not a car girl by trade of course.
There’s a fair few weeks of body work left, the rub down was just so we can weld to parts of it. Expect we will have to use filler on this old girl.
