Gost n goblins Rugar side arms tekken karnov bubble buble xain sleena fighting fantasy and sssoo many others...hours and hours on arcade stations cafeterias where ever i founded them..plus BMX and Mountain bike and breakdance..these where the times...
Karnov, tbh, the most forgettable game, but it has a special place for me in my heart. The internet really ruined in-person socializing and put life on 'easy' mode that is now biting a lot of people in the butt.
Arcades, synth wave, big hair, busy malls, multiple music genres that made it great to dance on the boomboxes or turn up loud in the Cars while driving... I sure missed the 1980s and very early 90s as I was a teenager back then
The truth is you had to have been a child, possibly a young teenager in the 80's for the this kind of nostalgia to have a real effect on you. Growing up with Saturday morning cartoons. Star Wars and He-Man toys. ( Lite-Brite and My little Pony if your my sister) BMX bikes miles away from home until it got dark. Atari party sleep overs ( I'll give you original NES not Super NES...those are 90's kids) And yes....loud, obnoxious glittering arcade paradises. If your childhood wasn't in this unique decade you can certainly enjoy this music but it won't psychologically trigger what it does in some of us.
Let's change that. You just had to be born in the 1970's. The 80's didn't really pop with culture until 1984. And no, we mostly had NES and SMS sleepovers. Atari was relatively expensive. But arcades are just one of those things that didn't exist long (maybe started late 70's/early 80's, reached its height in the early to mid 90's, and started dying off when online gaming became a thing. I miss the days when every video game company had their own hardware, their own game engine. Now everyone recycles Unreal Engine...so many games feel the same
I used to have to pay $10 each for albums with music from the 80s in the 80s. They're all essentially free now and you can take ALL of them anywhere. Not bad. I think having it all so readily available makes it all less meaningful somehow. You used to have to commit to your tastes more. Every music choice (unless you wanted to wait to hear it on the radio) cost you $10. I spent ALL of my money on music back then, heh.

You missed out. As a kid, it was like going to Disneyland as your pocket full of quarters promised an amazing time. You'd have the new fighting game that everyone would flock to and put their quarter on the rail stating it was their turn next. You'd walk by the trusty pinball games that would light up with sounds and pings. You'd see the relics of the older games light space invaders, pac man, or dig doug. You would probably end up with the fighting coop games like TMNT or Simpsons where some random would walk up beside you and be your ally for a little bit until one of you ran out of enjoyment or quarters. It was bliss.

But arcades are just one of those things that didn't exist long (maybe started late 70's/early 80's, reached its height in the early to mid 90's, and started dying off when online gaming became a thing.
I miss the days when every video game company had their own hardware, their own game engine. Now everyone recycles Unreal Engine...so many games feel the same

That's a shame, but it's okay because we have music, retrospective videos, and more than that, we're always looking to the future
I used to have to pay $10 each for albums with music from the 80s in the 80s. They're all essentially free now and you can take ALL of them anywhere. Not bad. I think having it all so readily available makes it all less meaningful somehow. You used to have to commit to your tastes more. Every music choice (unless you wanted to wait to hear it on the radio) cost you $10. I spent ALL of my money on music back then, heh.

I was too young in the 80’s to fully appreciate the decade but oh so many great memories… If I could go back, I’d go back and be about 10 years older so I could go dancing at the clubs in the 80’s! You missed out. As a kid, it was like going to Disneyland as your pocket full of quarters promised an amazing time. You'd have the new fighting game that everyone would flock to and put their quarter on the rail stating it was their turn next. You'd walk by the trusty pinball games that would light up with sounds and pings. You'd see the relics of the older games light space invaders, pac man, or dig doug. You would probably end up with the fighting coop games like TMNT or Simpsons where some random would walk up beside you and be your ally for a little bit until one of you ran out of enjoyment or quarters. It was bliss.

It makes me so sad when I think of this time. I am grasping desperately at falling sand trying to recapture some of the past. I have a board game collection of like 50 games. But no one ever comes. Indeed, the FIRST decade that enjoyed the widespread start of consumer tech. BUT was still early enough that most things people needed to do, work for, sweat for and enjoy --- were still very "analog" and simple.
*Like for example using the rotary phone and calling your crush (and hope no one eavesdrops on the shared line) then strategically sending hand-written perfume-infused love letters via snail mail and hoping the postman (or a suspicious father) won't intercept and open it before your crush could.*

The funny thing is that I was born in 97 but listening to this takes me magically back to those years although probably fake because it was hard there too when these songs were i.e. in 84.
