Of course they can be used frequently when women call men who are a little older than them but other than that... It's just weird. As an American, I cringed immediately when I heard/saw the sound+hand movement. I know others have said it's a part of arab and african cultures as well, but the hand movement+dancing up and down can read pretty badly to an American audience. Obviously, you will have some Americans saying it's fine or whatever, but it definitely mimicks the way a lot of people used to mock native culture here (see Peter Pan, the disney movie). Not saying blackpink intended anything bad at all, it just looks and sounds pretty bad to some people. And I don't think it was the best idea YG's ever had.

As an American, I cringed immediately when I heard/saw the sound+hand movement. I know others have said it's a part of arab and african cultures as well, but the hand movement+dancing up and down can read pretty badly to an American audience. Obviously, you will have some Americans saying it's fine or whatever, but it definitely mimicks the way a lot of people used to mock native culture here (see Peter Pan, the disney movie). Not saying blackpink intended anything bad at all, it just looks and sounds pretty bad to some people. And I don't think it was the best idea YG's ever had.
