- A short video of my Multiplex Twinstar 2 with newly built floats. I used to use floats with a flat bottom, whereas the new ones have a V-shaped keel.
They're working really well. They don't tend to jump as much as the old ones did.
Floats are made from 6mm Depron, covered with two layers of covering paper and then painted white with synthetic resin paint. Makes the surface more robust.
Caught your vid by chance - it's not a topic I usually follow. Well impressed. Even without any crashed landings, I was pleased with my first ever viewing of a model float plane flying.
Reading the comments I can appreciate your trialing the floats out before take-off - it'd not be good to splash-down and then find your float going in different directions and neither being that taken by the rest of the plane!
Incidentally, I assume the original plane was designed for use on the sea, major rivers and lakes, carrying a mix of 10-12 passengers, luggage and cargo. Thanks.

Echt nettes Video. Hatte selbst mal einen Twinstar das Teil ist echt schön zu fliegen. Ich benutz ihn aber nur noch selten.
Amazing landings and take-offs, how many times have you flown this particular model? Very relaxing looking too...love the water scene.
Sorry, I don't really have a plan. I have a few sketches but they aren't of much use either. I had an old set of floats with flat bottoms that I used as a basis and changed the flat bottom to a keel. But I don't have anything that someone other than myself would understand

Und welche Schwimmer verwendest du?
Nicht mehr die aus der FMT?
Oder hast du im vorderen Teil eine Aufkimmung eingearbeitet?
Fliegst du mit elektronischen Stabilisierung? Sie liegt wirklich schön ruhig in der Luft.

@wolferl69wolle Hehe, Danke. Nee, ich fliege ohne Kreisel. Bei den Motoren verwende ich IL2845-2100 von Staufenbiel zusammen mit 30A Reglern. Ich würde aber eher 40A Regler empfehlen. Die Propeller sind gegenläufige 3-Blatt Ramoser Vario-Props mit 5,8 Zoll Durchmesser. Die Schwimmer sind Eigenkonstruktionen, haben mit den FMT Schwimmern nur noch die ungefähren Proportionen gemeinsam. Aber du kannst auch die aus der FMT verwenden und der Unterseite eine Kielung verpassen.

It is a pleasure watching those takeoffs and landings on water! For the first minute or so, it seemed that it couldn't get off the water, then after that it seemed like no problem to take off. What changed?
+modsavant At the beginning I was only using partial power, because I wasn't intending to take off just yet. This was the first flight with this set of floats, that I had designed and built myself, so at first I just wanted to test how they were handling on the water. So I was just step-taxiing around for a bit. Then, after I was satisfied with the handling, I increased the power setting and took off.

Oh, wollte diese Topband AE2810-01E und wie empfohlen 7x4" 3-Blattpropeller von Masterairscrews einsetzen. Die Regler haben "nur" 20A.
Bin mal gespannt, ob ich am falschen Ende gespart habe....

Was hast du denn da für hübsche Propeller drauf? Was ist das für eine Motorisierung?

@wolferl69wolle Die Motoren und Propeller kenn ich nicht und die Stromaufnahme hängt maßgeblich von diesen beiden Faktoren ab. Kann ich also nich sagen ob 20A Regler reichen. Solltest du vor dem Erstflug vielleicht erstmal nachmessen.
