Happy new year, James! And a shoutout to your wife Emily. She is incredibly patient with your photography, I‘m impressed! I guess she deserves at least half the credit of your RUclips success! All the best to both of you for 2021. Keep up the good work of inspiring and amusing us amateurs...
Turns out I got the SMART goals thing completely wrong... Also there are a few comments about the photos being a bit bright. Just how I like ‘em is all. Not to everyone’s tastes I know, but then what photography is... 👍
you only got the achiavable wrong - that is attractive (or intresting but A fits better than SMIRT :-D ) and achievable is under realistic and thats where most people struggle for themselfs - while bosses usually struggle at the M bit (they give you unrealistic coals you cant meassure so they have enough leeway to say "iiiits not that difficult") ... For me a smar goal would be "go for a 2-3h photo walk with A lense (singular) and work with what you have, and try to create at least 5 compositions" I wouldnt put in "good" or "Bad" in a goal because this is VERY subjective. Pictures i dont reallly like that much get twice my usual likes on IG and vice versa ...
Ack! We had to make SMART goals for a few years while I was teaching. Oh the darn paperwork! I don't remember or care what the letters stand for, meh. -Elaine J.
Me seeing the thumbnail: I know James, it will be "Go out" James: ... Have goals Me: ok, was not expecting that James: ...and my goal... is to go out Me: knew it
My current photography goal is to learn about color in editing. I'm never sure what I want to do with an edit, and often end up reverting to the original because I feel I push the colors beyond what looks real. The beauty of this goal is I can do it during lockdown with my old shots!
Emily has to be the most patient and tolerant wife any photographer could wish for! She is also a natural in front of the camera. Another fantastic video in absolutely stunning surroundings! I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. I hope that you will both enjoy living in your new home. All the best. Alun
James, you're one of the most entertaining professional photographers on RUclips. Yes, I feel it's important to be entertaining, because you can hold an audience and you sprinkle in a lot of very useful inspiring information. People keep coming back for at least two reasons: 1) because you're entertaining and people want to see what craziness you'll get up to next, and what self deprecating humour you'll bombard us with next, 2) to see what new and inspiring moments and information you'll have for us. Your wife *at the time of writing this comment* is very understanding, cooperative and supportive.
Hi James, love your stuff. For an ‘Old bloke’ with a camera and newish to this photography malarkey, all very useful, helpful and indeed funny. One criticism if I may.... Treat your lady well. Give Emily whatever she asks for, your lady is gift! “Just walk here, move there, ready go”. I got exhausted just watching you guys. I will have some ‘Old bloke’ photography questions for you in the future. Keep the content coming.
I think Emily should do a video of the benefits of being married to a photographer. I could play it to my girlfriend, to convince her to let me invest in another camera system. Plus how it is important for me to travel and spend a lot of time improving my skills. Thank you James and Emily in advance for assisting me. I greatly appreciate it!.
Emily is a legit saint! I really appreciate the message on this one James. I spend far too much time sat in front of devices. Hope you both have a great 2021.
I found your channel recently since getting back in to photography and I have been enjoying your insights and delivery style! Stuck in lockdown again and having photographed every square inch of our walks around the local area my goal is just to take some photos of something different! Hopefully a SMART goal for 2021!
James, HNY. Firstly, Emily deserves a medal. You tortured her up that Mountain in that snow. Hope you said thanks! Also very impressed you remembered SMART goals! Lol. Anyway, keep up the good work in 2021,love you realistic videos and as an app-can user, love your mind full frame love in! Ps I know you've used full frame before!
Hi James and Happy New Year. I just came across your channel and subscribed after watching a couple of random videos from it. I find your channel very informative with great content made simple. 1 month a go I got my first camera ever, im 31 but better late than never, right (shooting only with phone before that). watching you going out for the day, documenting and sharing your ideas, made me go out as well, so yday, I had my first day out with the camera, and boy what a great experience that was, even if the shots were a bit rubbish, but got to start somewhere. anyway.... greetings from South West, UK !
James have you considered two colors? The back wall would not be white but the side walls could be. The white side walls would help "frame" the video and the back wall would have some color which would help the eye focus on you. Another matter, do you always sit when filming your YT indoors? Yes sitting can be "intimate and friendly" but some YT folks stand behind an elevated desk so that they can move around a bit more, if this is required. Just a suggestion?
well done James, and very well done Emily for letting you use her as your model. That was the best video for a while, mainly because you were outside and taking pictures, some lovely shots there especially the snowball throw. thanks Derek
I too want to cut desk time, but it seems to be the editing as much as anything that distinguishes better photography. I notice you take lots of photos, like me, and post few, like me. Do you keep them all? do you edit them? What do you do with them?
Happy new year James, what fantastic conditions you have in Wales, down here in the south east we have had no snow as usual. I did feel this video lacked one of your best traits, that was the art of story telling through a series of images.
The snow covered horses would have been worth the trip to me. What great portraits you could get with a telephoto. Not to mention that people love photos of horses = print sales.
Another video you could do which I think would interest a lot of viewers would be to walk around your house, your neighborhood, your town and show us where you live. Most of us are stuck at home and it's interesting to see other people's environment. At least it is for me. Great work, James.
I have enjoyed your videos this past year. I lived in Great Britain for 10 years and I miss the British humor, or should I write humour? Not only do you produce entertaining and enlightening content, your photos are amazing and you are very droll in your presentation. Keep up the good work. I await your 2021 endeavours with bated breath. Cheers.
I like Lexar. I use there products. No complaints. I don't recall how many of their thumb drives I have. And the number grows. I use their SD cards too. Good company. (nobody paying me to say this).
Always see street photographers doing first person, but never outdoors and Imve literally just started doing the same thing on my Channel! I Headed up to Stwlan Dam! Great vid as always mate! Smashing it!
That mountain snow looked so nice! Bet your and Emily’s legs were on fire from walking in it! Also, I know I have said this many times before but nice tune at the end 🙂
@jamespopsys I love your channel! You are so refreshing, informative, and entertaining! You and your wife are adorable! Looking forward to more great content from you! Thank you! Happy New Year!
You’re a lucky man, James. My missus starts swearing under her breath every time I stop to try and take a photo. And if I so much as point a camera in her general direction, “Did you just take a picture of me?😬” No. “Show me the camera!😬”
Happy new year to you and Emily. I love the video footage. Emily is the perfect model. What a star - and so patient. The stills are wonderful. By the way, I like the white wall. It will set off some of your framed images beautifully.

Great start James! I’ve been struggling to make a video a week. Just started out about two months ago and have only made three. I want to set a goal of one a week for this new year. I break out in a sweat when I think of making it a goal. Time rolls by so fast under those conditions. You have set my mind, however. Sweats be damned. 🤪
Happy New Year! Lighter colour much better...but unless my eyes have gone wonky, your desk was sloping down from viewer's left to right - it's all that horizon levelling in landscape post-p that produces this visual pedantry!!
It takes me so long to edit/post-process that the computer time almost always takes more time than the outside photography time. Not sure how to improve my editing time other than doing it more - which is counter the goal of less time at the computer. It’s a conundrum. Love the shots of your wife walking through the snow. Well done.
"Because without a goal you can't score" ....isn't that from American Pie?. :D You wife has incredible patience, I do drive my wife up the wall at times talking about photography.
I liked the dark cozy environment tbh. Then again, I'm a creature of darkness. Love that Emily close up as well. By the way the S5 isn't freeze proof... no issues with it whilst it was snowing?
Happy New Year, James!! Can't you send some of that snow to the Netherlands? Seems like everyone gets snow except for us 🙈 You got some good pictures of Emily! And also love the pictures of the cute ponies!
I just saw the intro, haven't finished the video (yet), but I did prefer the dark-green wall. I looked more....refined? and I looked like a large wall. The white wall you can see the corners, has lots of shadows and....i looks boring :D. Happy new year to you too

What gloves do you use? I can't decide if i should try Valleret gloves or normal tour gloves.
Happy New Year btw :)
Yep, I like the brightness :) And Valleret are great - so warm :)
@@JamesPopsysPhoto thanks, do you know if they are suited for poles when snowshoeing? (Grip, durability)
