Turns out I got the SMART goals thing completely wrong...
Also there are a few comments about the photos being a bit bright. Just how I like ‘em is all. Not to everyone’s tastes I know, but then what photography is... 👍

    • @Axonteer
      @Axonteer 3 года назад

you only got the achiavable wrong - that is attractive (or intresting but A fits better than SMIRT :-D ) and achievable is under realistic and thats where most people struggle for themselfs - while bosses usually struggle at the M bit (they give you unrealistic coals you cant meassure so they have enough leeway to say "iiiits not that difficult") ...
For me a smar goal would be "go for a 2-3h photo walk with A lense (singular) and work with what you have, and try to create at least 5 compositions" I wouldnt put in "good" or "Bad" in a goal because this is VERY subjective. Pictures i dont reallly like that much get twice my usual likes on IG and vice versa ...

My current photography goal is to learn about color in editing. I'm never sure what I want to do with an edit, and often end up reverting to the original because I feel I push the colors beyond what looks real. The beauty of this goal is I can do it during lockdown with my old shots!

James, you're one of the most entertaining professional photographers on RUclips. Yes, I feel it's important to be entertaining, because you can hold an audience and you sprinkle in a lot of very useful inspiring information. People keep coming back for at least two reasons: 1) because you're entertaining and people want to see what craziness you'll get up to next, and what self deprecating humour you'll bombard us with next, 2) to see what new and inspiring moments and information you'll have for us. Your wife *at the time of writing this comment* is very understanding, cooperative and supportive.

Hi James and Happy New Year.
I just came across your channel and subscribed after watching a couple of random videos from it. I find your channel very informative with great content made simple.
1 month a go I got my first camera ever, im 31 but better late than never, right (shooting only with phone before that). watching you going out for the day, documenting and sharing your ideas, made me go out as well, so yday, I had my first day out with the camera, and boy what a great experience that was, even if the shots were a bit rubbish, but got to start somewhere.
anyway.... greetings from South West, UK !

James have you considered two colors? The back wall would not be white but the side walls could be. The white side walls would help "frame" the video and the back wall would have some color which would help the eye focus on you. Another matter, do you always sit when filming your YT indoors? Yes sitting can be "intimate and friendly" but some YT folks stand behind an elevated desk so that they can move around a bit more, if this is required. Just a suggestion?

What all great photographers do...remove the lens cap when they pick up the camera.
The early series with Emily at the wall and going uphill left to right, you had her centered pretty much the whole time. Either entering the image or trailing tracks while exiting during the climbing sequence occurred to me as more dramatic per the rule of thirds. What drove your framing preference? Regardless, they and the rest of your time invested resulted in great shots. What a location and weather conditions, loved the wall and horses. For a while I was thinking that Emily's coat should have been a stronger color (the old red jacket rule) but then I realized that the gray and blue matched the snow and sky and provided an orderly arrangement of those colors to contrast with the natural arrangement surrounding. Great choice.
Happy New Year, looking forward to more great content in 2021, best to all!

Yeah, any goals are really difficult in the current climate. I wanted to travel more in 2020. My goal for photography is to continue to experiment with colour grading until I’m happy with it somewhat. Not very SMART (well done on getting that one) but it’s something.

That wall is going to get gradually closer and closer as you build up different layers of different colour paint until you're happy with the outcome!

I wish my wife was so patient whilst I'm taking photographs. If I want her in a scene I have to run ahead and ambush her with a snatched shot as she won't stop and wait. Then she wonders why I mostly shoot landscapes.😂

Mine doesn't even come with me, even when we go on overseas trips I have my time where I can do some photography while she does her shopping. Works out well.

At 3:53 we see you walking with your (I assume) expensive camera but no strap is attached to it. Were it my camera, it would have a strong strap and the strap would be around my neck and (right) hand, especially if I were walking in snow (which is not something done often here in downtown Albuquerque though maybe tomorrow, Jan 25, we'll have a bit of snow). I'm glad you are steady and don't drop things ever. I'm sorry this observation is late, I have a large backup of good videos to watch, including a lot of yours 😎🤠😊 Edited to add: I'm on Team Emily! but I appreciate Team James, too.

Todays video topic: Emily infront of things :-D - people can really do a lot to a landscape picture - and i mean that in a positive way :-)

Your snow photos look a bit overexposed for me but I guess that's your style ...
What gloves do you use? I can't decide if i should try Valleret gloves or normal tour gloves.
    Happy New Year btw :)

Yep, I like the brightness :) And Valleret are great - so warm :)

@@JamesPopsysPhoto thanks, do you know if they are suited for poles when snowshoeing? (Grip, durability)
