Following the reported suicide of Parasite actor Lee Sun-kyun, South Korean film veterans, such as directors Bong Joon-ho and Lee Won-tae, called for local authorities to provide transparency and a thorough investigation into the late actor’s death after he was interviewed three times by police in a drug case, the last time for 19 hours overnight. The veterans were supported by over 2,000 members of the Korean entertainment industry.

The police didn't take any consideration about his mental health of the actor I don't know if Sout Korea has a place for drug rehabilitation instead of prison for long years.
Don’t get me wrong I agree with them…however where were all these people when he was being cyber bullied and called a drug addict? Everyone was silent and nobody stood up for him despite knowing him on a personal level. It’s crazy how it takes death for people to raise concerns and stand up for you.

Not one of them ever spoke up for him in public. Nobody supported him in public. Regardless if they did in private. Public show of support would've helped greatly
Netizens in SK are the worst. They cancel someone without the truth or the facts. It’s guilty until proven innocent. I do not think the details of his investigation was bad enough until his final interrogation so many industry professionals did not have time to speak out before his death. The police and media handled it very wrong and unprofessionally which is typical for SK. There were certain police making this public for a promotion. So much corruption there. They also dragged in G Dragon before he was pronounced innocent
Whether they helped him or not during his difficult time, you and the others will find a away to question them. Everything they do will never be right. They'll never be perfect to fulfill the holy guidance of life that you guys create.
I hope that they don’t give up this fight for a better system.

they should have an organization that protects all their artists, because if they won't stand up for them, then who will? That's what lead to LSK's decision to end it but taking his own life. 😢😢😢
The issue is releasing an entertainer’s name or even anybody’s name during an investigation before they are proven guilty. No one should know anything during just an interrogation. Netizens in SK cancel everyone without even knowing the facts. It’s the worst cancel culture where even a famous entertainer can get canceled for being a bully at 13 years old in middle school.
Yes we all want that. A wonderful actor who I loved is gone. If didn’t love K dramas so much I would end that relationship, but I will not.

its like a long overdue the person involved took his life because of the insignificant way of some people in the korean industry when an artist involved the so called “indecent way” without a clear investigations they judge them all the way and the artist push themselves to take their lives its bec no one wanted to believes with their statement I think they need to fix first the entertainement industry in Korea look first with what the causes and not the people or fans who mis judged them this will make the downfall to for the business industries in Korea bec you don’t care with your artists it is a BIG EMBARRASMENT
There's 4 things i always check when i'm about to go insane.
1. Did i sleep well
2. Have i eaten well
3. Did i take my warm bath
4. is my bowel movement well
If all those 4 are check and my mind is still not ok then it's safe to say that i am insane
Funny for a country that literally boosted econony and fame through the entertainment industry, yet using them still as a scapegoat for their crimes.
Seriously if its juz drug related offences - it's pretty common in SK & US esp amongst entertainer. Once done wif jail term or rehab it's juz fine and should not have reached a breaking point or so-called no way out. Lindsay lohan has been on diu for drugs & alcoholism but her downfall was her performance at work (late to work after nights of partying, unsober etc - I think this affected her career & relationship wif film producer & crews including her dwindling image as once a famous child star - you should see the before & after shot of a long term drug users - not occassional or recreational user. Some do use marijuana etc for medical condition but nobody really knows whether its really effective other than the patients experiencing psychological effect of it - basically there is no scientific evidence or evaluation to support it, again testimonies from patients under the drugs influence - which marijuana provides hallucinations - Long Term (addiction), Short Term (relief)).
You need to check his case out. It's not the same as you described. First of all, many Asian celebrities may suffered from total career lost with few successful comeback, they were almost always shunned for life. His case were leaked before the police even secured evidence. This included G-Dragon's allegations that were leaked at the same time. These celebrities has deals and contracts where if things like these happened they have to pay compensation to companies that involve millions. Some companies doesn't wait for results and directly drop them(example: BMW removed all G-Dragon's advertisements almost as soon as they knew about it. He was found innocent by the way).
This man, didn't just lost his career he's in millions dollars of debt overnight plus the police keep interrogating him even when his test results came up negative.
For some reason, police side keep leaking news to media(I suspects it's to gain public pressure so they could forced an investigation close up the way they do with Seungri, they will found something whatever it is just to say they didn't make a mistake). For example, when GD's test results came out the police suddenly released statements that the man has no leg hair and idol always dye their hair for no reason 🤷♀️ all of these are so weird and need to be investigated as to why the police keep doing this.
Marijuana is legal in Canada due to scientific proof that there’s health benefits. Drug addiction is a health issue not a crime.

Police were investigating! They didn’t do no wrongs! Even if they didn’t leak the facts,the mistress will. So!! He made a mistake,he didn’t own up to it. He was scared his family wld found out his wrongdoings so instead of owning up to it,he tk his own life! He just didn’t have enough courage to face what he had done.
Drug addiction is a health issue not a crime. Marijuana is already legal in Canada and some parts of USA. If you don’t think these old drug laws need change and the police did the right thing, then you are also the problem.

The press is definitely the problem. Imagine your innocent, but going to continuous police questioning bc someone told the coos a story about you and each time you go you also have to be interviewed again by the press? Why are the press allowed questioning too? Of course he doesn't have to talk to them but if he ignored them people would automatically assume you're guilty. He's right to investigate for a leak, and having protection for those having innocent questioning

I have questions. Does South Korea have any comprehensive drug/alcohol treatments? Is mental health not taken seriously? Is there no education or understanding of the correlation between depression, other mental health issues, and drugs/alcohol abuse? I don't understand. 😢

@@Jakarta48fans its 15th, not no1. Also, cancer is the leading cause of death in south Korea at 85,000 per year which is about 800 times higher than suicides. Fyi suicide is a rare cause of death in any country.
I am happy that someone stood for Mr Lee. But I think this should have happened when investigation was going on and Mr Lee was alive. So that atleast he would be not that much frustrated and wouldn't dare to take extreme step.

funny thing is, the mass audience watching are the real culprits, putting pressure on media to pressure public figures who need to conform to the high demands of the audience for entertainment. the public have all the power to criticize insult and complain on a whim and quickly forget about it without any fear of consequence or responsibility
