Oh my word. How I love using this technique when kicking the lead roundhouse kick. It's very powerful that it can knock out an opponent out cold if executed at its best... thanks sensei Scott for opening up our minds once again. Oss

@@alexjoy2502 Of course, practice makes perfect.That's the whole point of martial arts. Taekwon do was not the martial art I formally trained in but this technique was easy to learn.

Well worth the wait Scott now I've been waiting for this lead leg exercise you have broken this down perfectly there are some misconceptions that people do come out with but this has been broken down to perfection I never realised but again back in the garage get the bag at weekend and practice s&i just want to be able to kick them in the ribs and lowdown headshots are a bit out of my league these days I don't stretch enough thanks mate I should practice keep them coming live long and prosper👊

The basics are the most important kicks, much more interesting that a _"720° inverted windmill spin kick"_ that would never be practical for actual use and are really just show off tricks.
This was the first kick I learnt (some kicks just feel natural - everyone has their favourite that just suits their physiology) and I have *fond memories* of it saving my arse in the schoolyard (and later on outside it).
And what's so useful about it is the natural target of it is the sweet spot on the jaw, it will hit hard enough to knock the other guy down but not break bones (unless you're wearing steel toes - in which case just kick the stomach), so it's a practical fight stopper without going overboard and getting into legal shenanigans.
More of the basics please!
And after a bunch of them are done, a playlist of the basic kicks, just so we can check our techniques.

I was taught to start the knee motion vertically in the same way as for the front snap kick and then rotate into the roundhouse position just before the extension. This gives the kick even more power and makes it a bit faster with less telegraphing.

I’m 60 years old and used to be considered an excellent kicker. But that was a l-o-n-g time ago, back when I also had a 15-2 record in old-school kickboxing. (late 70’s- early 80’s)
However, recently, since I’ve been home during quarantine, I started running, lifting, stretching and I am now hitting the heavy bag again. I’m still a bit shaky and don’t have the flexibility and quickness that I used to. But I gotta say, that in many ways it’s like riding a bike. It’s all coming back. Slowly, but I’m starting to do combo kicks and increase my power and balance.
Thanks for your videos. They are a big help: straight to the point. No fuss, just body mechanics.

How are things going? I’m almost 60 with no martial arts experience. Just started taking taekwondo with my son. 9 months now. Slowly getting better!
@@regularguy3202 It’s awesome that you’ve decided to begin your Martial Arts training. And with your son, no less!
Keep it up as it can provide you with a lifetime of physical and mental fitness. Plus, you’re doing an activity with your son and you can both grow together.
Maybe after you feel comfortable with TKD, you may consider trying another MA. Not that TKD is a bad art form, it’s more about suggesting learning something that is more suited to your body, age and fitness level.
I used to be a very good kicker, but I can no longer keep up with my old self. So, I concentrate on boxing and Jiu Jitsu. I still kick the heavy bag, but I also know my physical limits. (Sometimes…. And sometimes I forget and over-extend myself and pay for it with an injury)
Anyway, I wish you the best in your journey. It’s NEVER too late to start. Im very happy for you AND your son.
