Funny how this example probably isn’t complete. They forgot to ask the question: why are the insect attracted to the lights?
The answer would be that they are attracted to the warmth of the lights and not the light itself. If the lights would be replaced with led lights the memorial could still be illuminated at night.

For some reason I read red light not LED, lol. But yes, same thoughts. Running dimmer, warmer toned (bugs don't like warm toned) and cooler to touch lights should reduce the number of pests.

Hello Danielle, I am with the organization "Race Forward" and would like permission to show this clip at a future training with US Forest Service government employees. We will give credit to you for producing this video on a key topic -as we discuss getting to root causes of racially systemic issues.

Sadly this video is based on the Juran Quality Minute almost word for word. We had asked ASQ to add the correct permission to use this video. It was to be removed from publication.

Hi Danielle, I wanted to request your permission to download your video. I have students who id like to show this to, but they are francophone. I was thinking of downloading it and adding french subtitles. Can you let me know if this would be ok with you? We would be viewing only inside a private class, not sharing publicly. And if you give me your email address , I would be happy to send you the version with the french subtitles for you to use as you like. It would be great if you could let me know, either way!

This never happened. It's an old urban myth that business people love to share as a true story. Sometimes it's the Washington Monument, sometimes the Jefferson Memorial, or other site. Seriously people. Do your research! Using this example as true makes you look like a fool.

This is a real study with the results being the same: Cleaning processes due to bugs around the memorials were destroying the memorials. The only things different is it wasn't the chemicals, but the water used in cleaning that was causing the erosion and that it wasn't bird messes that caused the most damage but bug messes from breeding cycles. (though birds weren't innocent and did have an impact but the fact that it was bug messes causing the biggest issue is why an entomologist was brought in to do the study.). The scientific approach to how entomologist Don Messersmith solved the problem remains the same and intact. Messersmith, Donald H. 1993. LINCOLN MEMORIAL LIGHTING AND MIDGE STUDY. Unpublished report prepared for the National Park Service. CX-2000-1-0014. N.p
In regards to "do your research", I advise the same to you. You can find copies of said cited report and read it for yourself.
