    thank you so much! i play guitar for 7 years self taught and now suffer from tendonitis because i stucked to the "rule" that you must ALWAYS have your thumb in the low position and exactly behind your middle finger, causing me to bend my wrist too much. So i now have to start from thebeginning.

    Wish I saw this about 58 years ago. I’m always improving my technique and this is the best video I have ever seen on the topic. I play classical guitar and this instruction holds true for that as well. Thank you for putting this up.

    This is honestly a really good video that has a ton of information many channels and teachers ignore. I'm guilty of flattening my fingers and I really appreciate you showing this in such detail. Thanks!

    This was my mistake not holding my hand position correction and not using the finger tips. Figures why it took s much more time to learn. Making this change made me think... Man playing isnt as hard as it seeemed. This us crucial for a live setting and recording and not sound sloppy and get hand fatigue. I knew something was off but saw it now

    I have wrist pain after 3 years of playing. I do use my finger tips on the plain strings but I noticed when I play on the wound strings I bend my wrist. And judging by the way you do it my issue is of biomechanical nature. I cannot put my thumb where you put it. My thumb is always in the center whether I play on the wound or plain strings. If my thumb is lower for the plain strings I lose control and if it’s higher up for the wound strings I feel like I have no space. I’d need a very thin d shaped neck not a thick c shaped neck.

    My problem is that my pinky finger follows my ring finger a bad habit. Any tips on improving the flexibility of your fingers?

      Ah never mind just repetition so should I master this before I even start with the guitar?

      Go to 7:25 for the fixed finger exercise. This will get you started in the right direction. You can begin higher up the neck and gradually work your way down to the 1st four frets. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      @@LevelsForGuitaralso I find it easier to use my pinky first and then placing the rest of the fingers on the the frets then my index finger first. Is that the wrong way to do it or is that fine

    For the section at the 6-7 minutes- what if I have a small hand and short fingers and curling them up means the bottom of the neck hits the meat of the upper palm and prevents me from reaching the thickest strings? I can't seem to keep a straight wrist while also curling fingers.

    • @LevelsForGuitar
      @LevelsForGuitar  Год назад +2

      Once your hand makes contact with the neck try opening your fingers to reach the bass notes. It's better to open up the hand than it is to bend the wrist. If you've tried both and still can't reach, then you can bend the wrist a little. If your fingers are still too short, then a 3/4 sized guitar with a smaller neck might be your solution. Hope this helps and thanks.

      @@LevelsForGuitar Thank you. I think what I don't hear very often is that wrist bend is okay. Will I eventually gain strength that will help with my issue (I am still in my first year)?

    • @LevelsForGuitar
      @LevelsForGuitar  Год назад +2

      @@artax9683 You will. Spend more time on the strings you can play correctly and gradually add a string as you get stronger.
