This event took place on the worst day of my life. I didn’t have her then, but a decade and a half later, I had discovered her, loved her, saw her perform with my husband, processed all that pain and grief through her music, and tonight discovered that THIS was happening during my darkest hour. God is so good. Thank you, Joanna.
UUhy a uuorst day of life uuhen our lives are eternal? See Sauu, up douun, breed the hounds, the universe is ours to define, design, create, recreate; don't break the bouu, shoot the arrouus kupid; but don't peirce our hearts? Good greif! Uue are gods and godesss... i spell.
just coming here after submitting my final year project. 4 years of engineering was tough but i discovered her music in the midst of it all and this whole set is therapy
What an amazing recording. Great setlist, immaculately performed (with charming interludes) by a stellar artist at the top of her game, and an audience who were enthusiastic but respectfully quiet when Joanna was playing. Add in the excellent sound quality, and all-in-all it's the next best thing to actually being there.
right! i was definitely given a jolt with that glitch... er, I guess it's also called anxiety, haha. but the sounds that ensued after took care of it. and with sawdust and diamonds and then cosmia after! whew. the van dyke parks-joanna newsome collaboration was so amazing
Every time I listen I am so floored when she talks about how she had to walk out in the middle of 'Only Skin' during the previous night's performance- to be so noisy as to drown that one out while Miss Joanna is performing live?? Godawful lawlessness, IMO
Hmmm…. I woke up this morning and this video was already pulled up on my screen (though I didn’t go searching for it and have never seen/heard it). I took it as a sign and listened. I always knew Joanna was magic!
I was in my junior year of high school at this time and was not old enough to be admitted bc of the age restriction. I was crushed, heartbroken. My friend from Zoology class kindly bought me a t shirt from the show and I remember when he sat it on my desk and I lit up as he told me about the show. RIP to Bottletree and my younger self. I honestly don’t think I’dve been able to really appreciate this performance and the depth of the new (at the time) songs, but boy am I grateful to be able to experience it now. Only Skin and Sawdust and Diamonds still make me cry. Her voice sounds PERFECT here and the band is incredibly tight. Thanks a million to whoever recorded this and to the crowd who made her feel so good and at home.
Dec. 24, 2022. Christmas eve and yet doing case digests. Listening to this. I always get chills when Joanna performs. It's otherwordly. It's comforting. I also would like to acknowledge her band. The band adds a touch of magic with their talent.
Love that this contains the full finale of Only Skin, makes it the best live recording of Ys by far for me. It's crazy how true to the studio record her singing is here. I'm so glad that there's a full audio of it from this time (and in this quality), because since her vocal cord issues there has not been- and never will be - a performance of her old(er) songs this perfect.
Man, put a little extra sass into the book of right on, like she was pissed at someone. Joanna never ceases to amaze. I hope she is doing well. As someone with little ones I know how busy and crazy life becomes. (But a new album on the way would be bananas 🤞)
Perfect songs to read the subjective forms of the clouds and to follow with a tender eye the grooves of the stems of the trees; appreciate the complex writing of the nested branches, taste the colors of the decomposition of light into water droplets in a garden, and strongly feel the wet soil of ancestral forest to perceive the traces of animals from deep past..
I love your songs Joanna . Sure would be great if you came back and did a show in your old home town . I'd love to see you play . I would not miss that one
of course the whole thing is greater than the word great. that's kind of a "hat on a hat" statement, but, it fits with right now..I don't exactly know what I mean by that, but....I could almost run on this sentence forever.. great set!
This is art. I love it. Thanks for sharing it. Even if i do not understand a 100%, its just beautifuel. Great Artist! I hope i can support you in an easy way without credit card. :)

I'm a hardcore Joanna fan of like 10 years who JUST NOW discovered that this exists. THANK YOU GOD!!!
same! literally!
same here. incredible renditions
that monkey and bear performance is still the most charged, poignant rendition of this song she's ever recorded.
I’m so honored to be part of a community that loves and appreciates her music… like y’all were so lucky

This is so incredibly soothing. Love her voice and the harp.
Ca' the Yowes to the Nowes is absolutely gorgeous
the greatest. I've probably listened literally one hundred times
I was at this show!!!! What a treat to discover this recording. I still have the T-shirt I bought that night 💜💙💚
How is this gig more powerful than the actual recorded album, I love it
The monkey and bear glitch scared the shit out of me lol

@@SpoookiePoookie it really is :) I wish I could find a tutorial on how to do that!
This may be Joanna at her best. Such a great listening experience.
Best is yet to come
I actually think you're right. She sounds flawless, here.
Louisville never recovered after this
Listen To Only Skin & Try not to Cry Like a Bitch Challenge
My favorite piece of music right here
Wow, this Cosmia.

I love her. Ich mag das. Danke Johanna
Amazing music to pull out all the tears out of your entire body that you didn’t even know were built up inside you
RIP bottletree. Birmingham hasn’t been the same since. It was the best kept secret venue in America.
Whoever recorded this has my eternal gratitude. Excellent quality, such a treasure of a particular time of Joanna Newsom.
hostia increible directo! Gracias!
What an extraordinary thing to be there. Well it is just to listen to this so you can only try to imagine..
This is so good

I don't know how I've never heard this before.
Ryan Francesconi's album with Lili De La Mora is amazing. Go listen to that, when this is done.

Thanks for posting this. Sounds great. Very intimate 🎆👍😊
Was praying for video...
Casually performs the entirety of ys in some random cafe.
I wish she would tour with a banjo player again.
26:00ish in yes please this orchestration is amazing geez
19:56 wow
Epic
Track skipping is quite offputting :/
She really makes me want to be a better person...
Andy Samberg is one lucky guy

It sounds like the gig she had before this was terrible
Louisville is just like that

I love your username.
Hmm. Lot of words. Like reading the phone book. Give us a bit of melody.
It's poetry. Sorry you didn't get it
Are you deaf????
i get where you’re coming from but this is her style. there are many melody-focused artists out there that you could listen to instead.
or you could read along with the lyrics, she’s an amazing writer
