Thanks for the comment, I use the 3 of them but I always go back to the stock one as my main. I like that the Analogman sounds more "Dumbleish" to me and the Way Huge has more volume and a more usable tone control, but again I always go back to the stock one.
Elmer Ferrer Your video makes me wanna get the stock one, I used to have the Analogman’s modded one but sold it. I also have the Way huge one and actually likes it a lot. After watched your video I think the stock one is the one which I like the most. And also I am a huge fan of Landau :)
Nice video! The MIDS knob should have been at 9:00 for the normal comparisons, as turning it all the way down scoops the sound even more than the stock pedal. 9:00 is the same amount of mids as the stock pedal. The Tone and MIDS knob interact, so takes a bit of time to dial them in. Have fun!
Thanks Mike! Sorry, I didn’t know that. I still have your pedal and love it too. I actually love the 3, a really nice and wide pallet based on my fave distortion!
I've had them all... the stock always wins. As much as I want to change this circuit for the better it never seems to work in the end. There's such a subtle sweet spot with the low mids and highs. Change that and it loses some of the magic. Nice comparison video!
I also have a treble bleed installed on almost all my guitars for that purpose, but still the stock Maxon is the one that cleans up better and retains the top end the best, I hope that helps :)
At the end you chose one of them for your pedalboard...?? They are very similar to each other but of course all 3 have their differences. Analogman is a genius, I think it is the one I like the most, Analogman is the king of tone and you can hear it here, Geisha, as you say, have a more compressed sound, in hight gain is where you can hear it . I'm thinking of buying the Geisha anyway because of the dynamics that the pedal has, Do you feel there is a difference in how they feel? if that dynamics is noticeable compared to the others
Well, when I made this video, my favourite was the stock one. The Analogman sounds great, but the mod takes away some core character id the SD-9, (to my ears) it makes it closer to the “Dumble type of drive”? Smoother… But now, my favourite is the Geisha. It’s the one I have in my boards, combined with the JHS morning glory it’s Gold! Tight and thick low-end, fat lead notes and cleans up with the volume really well. When I did this video I didn’t like it that much and now that combination is my favourite, and it will be for a while…
@@ElmerFerrer I had a combination like that in mind too-Geisha and a transparent overdrive. It's definitely something I want to try out. Thanks for the comparison, man!
Thanks! I don’t use it any more. Not better than some IR’s to my ears. To me the Revv D20 (that has the Torpedo cab inside) and amps with the Suhr reactive load and Two Notes Torpedo cab sounds best. I prefer the Torpedo stuff over everything else for loading IRs, to me they sound the best.
Thanks I've been debating getting the ACE to stay all analog. Every analog cab sim I've ever used sounds fizzy with anything other than clean or low gain
Great review but my only critique would be the Geisha's tone knob is not apples to apples with the other units, so when they would sound more alive with a bottom out tone setting, the Geisha really needed to be up 2-3 clicks to be more fair of comparison. The Geisha often came off as dark, but it has a very usable tone sweep.
Thanks. Well if I turn the Geisha tone knob that up, I’ll loose low end (to my ears). The geisha doesn’t sound that “Sd9” to me on any setting. I keep it as a collection thing but it sounds artificial to me.
@@ElmerFerrer yeah, I think the amp and amp settings you are pushing with it makes a difference. The best settings are to push the level and lower the drive. Tone about 10am into a slightly breaking up amp.
@@Respecttheriff I have been using the SD9 for almost 20 years, I know that pedal a “little bit” :) actually trying to replace it now. That core natural thing that the SD9 has, the Geisha doesn’t has it in any setting, again to my ears, there is an unnatural thing on the Geisha that I can’t take away no matter the amp or the settings or the situation. But if you like it and it’s your thing, great! :) 👍
@@ElmerFerrer yeah, it’s great! I guess my point is my SD9 and Geisha can sound almost identical to me. But neither are meant for a clean amp and neither are “transparent” OD’s…IMO
@@Respecttheriff I’m not talking about transparent, I’m talking about natural sounding distortion. The geisha doesn’t sound or feel the same as the SD9, it has an artificial almost “multieffect distortion type of feel” to me. It has a “voice” totally different to the sd9 that you can’t take away.
I know, that's why it's included on this one, i have seeing tps video also, I have this 3 pedals, they don't sound the same at all. Have you tried them?
@@ElmerFerrer I have not. I I sd9 and 40th anniversary maxon 808.. I guess I can see how they would sound different live. They seem really close on here
@@physiciansassist1 cool, try to use good headphones or good monitors. They are close, but they sound different, the Geisha is more compressed and doesn't clean up in a nice way when turning the guitar volume down, but is louder than the other two, they are all different but they are all good.
@@ElmerFerrer will do. Interesting you say that because I have to turn the volume all the way up on the maxon sd9 for solo because it's not that loud even when boosted
