      a few other things you can look for are webbing and the ripe spot to be a bit darker

    That doesnt work for me. I buy 3 or 4 watermelons a year and have thrown them all away. They are pale pink and not sweet.
    Last week i bought one and ate the whole thing. First time in years i found a good one.

      @@teepsfam I look for the white spot, and how the stem looks, I thump it. Still I get bad ones.

      @sandyhearn8332 I never thump, you don't want the ripening spot to be white, look for yellowish to yellow and look for webbing. It should also feel heavy for it's size, these should help a lot.
