    So I did a refoam on a jlw6v2 12 I bought and I get the feeling it should be able to get ALOT louder then it does before it starts distorting, I had 2 kicker comp R 12s that I sold thinking the 1 JL w6 12 would be much louder and better then the comp R 12s but its not even getting as loud as the kickers were and it starts distorting really Bad! Did I do something wrong when I replaced the surround or what?! Plz help!!!

      If you press down and here a rubbing or scratching sound it is likely the foam is off centered. It’s important to note the box and amp used is key reducing distortion just because the subwoofer fits in a box doesn’t mean it should be meant for it. Look up Jl audios website for box dimensions and amp rating too much amperage=blown subs

    by the way after your adhesive job did you bump the speakers after 2 or 3 days? that would have been a good video to see how the adhesive held under extreme pounding. 😁

    • @johnb9187
      @johnb9187 Год назад

      extreme pounding is what destroys the surrounds long before rot sets in.

    • @Keeping-It-Real-55
      @Keeping-It-Real-55 Год назад

      @@johnb9187 I disagree these speakers are built to pound. However with new adhesive I'm not sure how long it needs to set. Either way I pounded mine pretty hard after 3 days and I haven't had any issues.

      @@Keeping-It-Real-55 constant fatigue/stress at the surrounds weakest point....in this case where the inner or outer roll meets lip thats glued to the cone or basket rim. pry a metal fork back and forth enough and it will crack at that point leaving the rest of fork perfectly fine.

    Is my w6 blown if it make the rubbing sound with the foam off? I just got a w6 twelve for free because it has no foam. Have you found where to get the foam that goes all the way to the edge yet?

      They almost always run unless you can find the sweet spot once the foam is installed it centers the cone

  • @30jspecial

    My theory is people have small water leak in there trunk . The water condensates and the foam absorbs it . Then it gets cold the foam freezes and you turn your stereo on in the morning pow your foams is toast . If this is the case the foam tears in a perfect circle . Just my theory becuase i think that is what happened to mine .hence I'm watching this video

    The foam deteriorates no matter what happens. Mine did it while in my truck. Poor quality materials. Should be Buna n or nitrile rubber like alpine type r and others.

      Jl audio does not sell replacement surrounds. My best recommendation is simply speakers on eBay there glue is by far superior to the black glue that eventually unglues
