Lagiacrus isn't invisible, he is just standing in the ocean, menacingly, waiting for any unfortunate hunter to fall in the sea and eat it. Jokes aside, i was hoping that lagia would have arrived from the beach in the forest map of world with an update at some point
Props to the GU team to not only expanding Lagi's moveset, but also having the time to make new equipment, specially the CB, being so good against Ahtal-Kha at that level of the game. They didn´t have to create new weapons for him and only export the old ones, but it´s really appreciated that they decided to go that far. I know that his moveset is not the same as fighting him underwater, where he belongs, but they attempting to expand and add a few more thing instead of just copy-pasting the monster, shows how much love the developers have for the game and their attempt to do something new with him within the limited dev time of the game.
Lagiacrus is an exception. The vast majority of GUs returning monsters are monsters that were drag and dropped from the older games, especially the monsters from 4/4u. Some of the 2nd gen monsters like blangonga and shogun got 1 or 2 new moves, but these are again exception to what I had said earlier. Nothing wrong with that. GUs still a great game. Just wanted to point that out
Lagiacrus is my favorite monster, however I absolutely will not accept it coming back without underwater in tow. Tri has shown too much potential for the entire mechanic to be scrapped, and for the sake of species variety, the series is going to have to include more varied environments as well. That pre-release World footage of Lagi makes me tear up every time over what could have been. That being said, Capcom seems very interested in bringing Lagiacrus back to the main series alongside underwater combat, as they've admitted that the monster just isn't the same without its domain. Call me crazy, but I fully believe MH6 will be our second dive into underwater combat, and I absolutely cannot wait to see my favorite monster again after so many years.
They'd have to rework it completely. UW Combat literally had weapon types that just.. didn't work underwater. Oh? You practiced with Dual Blades and sunk a bunch of resources crafting some decent ones? Tough shit. Have fun humping the monster's hitbox until you find some way to hit it without getting bodied. They'd also have to find a way to not make UW Combat just diet regular Combat. So many moves and things have been added to deepen the combat that I just don't see them working in UW Combat, so all it might be is just, "Swing.. Swing.. Swim.. Swing.."
@@The_Big_Jay I somewhat agree, but it doesn't need a complete rework. Every weapon should just play like Lance, where the moveset is barely changed. Gunlance, Lance and the guns feel pretty good underwater, whereas DS or SnS feel awful.
@@Vayne_Solidor Fully disagreed, I hate GU Lagiacrus with all my heart. The moves aren't fun to deal with and it gave me a terrible first impression of what is otherwise my favorite monster. It'd be like if Rathalos couldn't fly, but also he can just Teostra nova whenever he wants.
@@prawn1717 But some weapon movesets just wouldn't work underwater. Lance works because Lance always has been, and always will be, a very straightforward weapon. Poke, and Guard. How would the Long Sword's Fade Slash work? Foresight Slash? Sacred Sheath?
Lagiacrus is my favorite monster. I would like to personally thank you for this video. You're quickly becoming one of my favorite channels, please keep it up!
i recon 1 way they could fix Lagiacrus WHILE keeping him on land is to have his thunder work differently in wet zones, so when on land he can do basic lagiacrus stuff + the AOE shock, but when in water like in the swamp or on a beach, the lighting could travel covering more space, that way you keep the water benefits to his fight although they should definitely remove that weird ghost orbs floating around him move, it doesn't seem like HIM is all
Don't forget the wycoon trader, you can trade materials for other materials of other monsters not In the game in 4u, including lagiacrus, abyssal lagi, heck even Yama Tsukami, dire miralis, lavasioth, Lucent nargacuga, ceadeus and the list can go on
@@Oddball_1943 Wycoon exists in 4U because they could reuse models from the psp games and 3 Ultimate pretty easily. But that feature hasn't returned for games like World and Rise because they've had to remake them all in high definition, which is pretty expensive to do.
Mmm. Mh3u was my introduction to monster hunter even tho I didn't actually sit down and play until rise. Seeing Lagi as your first flagship is delicious
Lagiacrus is forever my favorite monster in the series since I started with Tri. The underwater hunts was also one of the core things that really drew me into the series so it's been painful for me with it's absence...
Great video! Ive been thinking about this for a while and I honestly don't see underwater exploration ever returning. I'm pretty sure that making 3U they were trying to expand traversal and increase dimensions of mobilty so they added diving. Ever since 4U they've decided to go in the complete opposite direction and include verticality on land then, increased aerial maneuverability (insect glaive, mounting, clutch claw, wire bugs) and they've just been focused on that direction ever since. Think of the logistics behind adding in underwater combat in addition to that, every leviathan that has been added since 3 would have to be completely reworked to include underwater traversal and combat. As well as whichever game that features it would either have to make it only available on one map (which everyone would complain about) or figure out diving mechanics for every large body of water (just seems too implausible).
I am honestly predicting underwater combat will return in Gen 6 We know the MH Team desperately want Lagiacrus back, and the team are known to have listened to feedback with other games, so I can see the feature returning but much improved
With the introduction on Gen 5 clutch claws and wirebugs movement enhancements I can totally see underwater combat coming back in gen 6 with that and be fun and viable.
Complete opposite imo. Great video! Ive been thinking about this for a while and I honestly don't see underwater exploration ever returning. I'm pretty sure that making 3U they were trying to expand traversal and increase dimensions of mobilty so they added diving. Ever since 4U they've decided to go in the complete opposite direction and include verticality on land then, increased aerial maneuverability (insect glaive, mounting, clutch claw, wire bugs) and they've just been focused on that direction ever since. as much as i like hunter's mobility in 4th and 5th gen, i would like 6th gen to tone it down a bit, back to grounded, no much flashy movement (but keep switch skills, that shit nuts), i want the feeling of monsters back to being daunting, not being a joke
For clunky as underwater combat was on a wii...i miss it dearly. I remember back when Lagia was 1st teased and ppl thought it was a water type fatalis.
bro no matter how many monster hunter games will come you just cant beat that feeling of first fighting a lagiacruz underwater. that was just pure magic it will always be my favorite monster and arena in monster hunter
Kind of shocked we never got him in Rise or Sunbreak tbh. With Mizu and Ludroth coming back aswell as us getting Almudron i thought for sure Lagi would come haha guess we gotta wait for MH6
It bought joy to me talking about lagiacrus, thx I'll be ready for the underwater combat video that will come at some point, it's exciting to think that mh6 could feature underwater combat, even if a small degree
When I played MH3U as my first ever Monster Hunter game, I would've never imagined Lagiacrus would become such a point on contention in the community, so beloved, yet a troublesome relationship between him and with the game engines
if you are playing 4 ultimate there is a lot of nods to monsters that don't appear often especially the underwater ones. There is lagiacrus armour but you have to learn to use the wyporium and unlock it by doing specific advanced quests this one here is rewarded for doing dragon attack. there's also a few abyssal lagiacrus weapons you can get by doing a different quest
Personally speaking I think that Almudron is setting a frame work for having a monster as wanted as Lagicrus with out having to re add water. Rather then being fully submerged Lagicrcus is treading water.
Ever since the announcement of underwater combat returning for Wilds, I have been very excited for them to bring Lagiacrus back since they have no excuse now
that thing haunt me as i want to make hyper lagi db as thunder db back in GU, lowkey it force me to learn striker lance for charge poke playstyle after i saw a lance speedrun
I really appreciate this video tbh. As much as I hate underwater combat and love Lagiacrus, you're right that you can't really separate the two. Gen U shows us that they "can" do Lagiacrus without water, but also that they shouldn't. He just doesn't feel like the same monster when he isn't "Lord of the Seas". Maybe they can make him work with the same "standing on water" thing we use to fight Somnacanth.
That might only make him seen by the newer community as another jyuratodus, since having half of him untouchable for most of the fight would frustrate players.
The simplest solution to make his land fight more interesting would be to give him a state that lets him move around land with the same agility as he can underwater, providing a real dynamic where one moment you run circles around him and the next he slides in circles around you. The issue I see with this is that it sounds like Mizutsune. Maybe capcom could make it work but it wouldn’t be ideal compared to underwater combat
For a variant, maybe they could do something like Amatsu with its swimming in the air, using its shockers to propel itself above ground and apply it's aquatic moves above ground
I'd like to add, Dirty al spends half the fight clipped in to the ground and somnacanth's slither animation does a weird motion where it minimizes its body contact with the ground and is a LOT smaller than lagi. You can probably raise his body off of the ground a bit more to prevent this but that in itself would change a lot of his animations and I think, even if a lot of the 5th gen ported returnees have notable differences, they keep a lot of the monster's initial feel and look to them and the MH team is most likely dedicated to keeping that as much as they can, which I can agree with.
Though I have never experienced MH3's underwater combat mechanic to know if it was good or bad, I believe it should return so that Lagiacrus can comeback along with some new and old underwater monsters as well. Monster Hunter games nowadays now have faster mobility and abilities in forms of grappling hooks (wirebugs and grappling tools), hunter arts and silkbind attacks. All they need are some comprehendible and fun move sets and an explanation to why you are able to fight in underwater for an extremely long period of time.
Ah yes! My childhoods faiv monster! I started with MH3Tri and i remember loving him then! I did play MH3U while back and i loved fighting him in his prime once again
My one issue with Lagiacrus is how people have been mispronouncing its name. It's Lag-EE-AH-crus not Lag-AI-AH-crus... The "I" in its name is BEFORE the a, not the other way around. 😅
Although I much love 4U, I did start with 3U. So while I sadly never got far into it, it still gave me an appreciation for all Underwater Combat offered. Especially with Lagiacrus. Who is a completely different fight in the water, as you have pointed out. Plus I am very connected to the sea, so I hope that we will get the full experience some time soon.
To this day I just don't understand why they have now so many technical challenges to render this monster in the Nintendo Switch but it was never a problem to do it in a much less powerful console, the 3DS
I would say, a way to somewhat bring Lagiacrus back is to make a variant/subspecies/closely related version. I say closely related because of the pack monsters of baggi, wroggi, and jaggi. A way to do it is to give it the body of Mizitsune/Almudron, raising it's body up. I know it's supposed to slither like a snake, but if that's a constant issue with it being to big and close to the ground, then let's change that. Now that it's raised/has a similar body to the newer leviathans, let's bring in qualities that it can implement to make it close to a real Lagiacrus. Keep the same same colors, but change the brightness of each. It's not a full Lagiacrus, but needs to be similar. Now give it shell shockers on its back and give it the same head as a Lagiacrus. Now, to represent its elegant graceful water movements, let it slide around like Mizitsune, but only in watery areas of the map. While sliding, have it's shockers cause an aoe attack or leave mini water vortexs to hit the player. With it being raised up and moving more like the new gen leviathans, we need to make it show some sturdiness. Half the size of it's neck so it doesn't look like it's going to break itself, as well as bulking up the legs to help support it's weight. Next is to implement new attacks. I would add a forward flip attack that causes an electricity explosion. The animation is akin to Tobi-Kadachi's tail slam attack. Another attack is a back flip tail attack to space itself away from the hunter. It would proceed to fire lighting bolts/lay lightning traps on the ground. Finally, to give it the final touch to be close, make it have a faster movement than the rest of the leviathans, almost akin to Malzeno's speed, but not as insanely fast (no "teleporting"attacks). If it was a variant/subspecies of a Lagiacrus, I would name it Electric Hurricane Lagiacrus, to show its a Lagiacrus that had adapted to the land permanently and has caused a mutation in it's body to have a different posture and body shape. It tries to incorporate what the Lagiacrus is underwater, but on land and had to adapt to find a way to do it. It still needs water to function with it's power, but not a lot (it's the source for it's electricity and has found to process it more efficiently). Outside the water, it becomes more sluggish and electricity isn't as strong. It leaves the water areas as a way to find food, which is why it adapted to land. As a close related species, I would name it Terrabraccius. I basically made what made up Lagiacrus' name in Latin (Pelagi and crus, which translates to the sea leg) and made the opposite (the land arm). Regardless, I would would make it's title " Hurricane Incarnate Wyvern". I want it to incapsulate the sheer strength a Lagiacrus has, but on land, and nothing is as fast, powerful, and graceful (the eye of the hurricane is the most calmest, but then danger is soon to come).
Gore was the first monster who actively changed his hit and hurtboxes in the middle of a hunt as having to shift your understanding from a long slender body to one twice as wide is not easy
Do you know how to make Lagiacrus a good monster without underwater combat? The answer is simple: Don't use Lagicrus, use Ivory Lagiacrus instead of using base with Ivory's moveset. We had Crimson Glow Valstrax without base Valstrax, and Ivory Lagiacrus is sort of a flagship on its own, so I don't see a reason not to make Ivory Lagiacrus a returning monster!
In my opinion they should have add Ivory instead of the base one in MHGU, would have been more logic and a better fight, they can even add him in Rise Sunbreak
He is my favorite monster. I wish he could make it in a new game but at least i know the devs have been trying for world and rise but haven’t been able to make it work yet. I’ll huff the copium and hope he will be in the next one haha
Something that I feel is worth mentioning is considering how the current world-based game mechanics could be used to improve the land Lagiacrus experience through environmental factors. For example if you fight it in an area with shallow water some of its physical attacks could cause waves that would hit you, knocking you off balance and potentially adding waterblight to you (or the mud blight if in a flooded forest like map), or they could just go the Jyuratodus way and make it dive where you can just walk :P I also think you should fight Lagi in areas without terrain elevations or anything you can climb to get a heigt advantage (unless Capcom decides to make it able to climb cliffs somehow), otherwise hitting the horns could get too easy with the current player mobility. Not saying this because I do not want to see Lagiacrus in the full glory of underwater combat, but given how much the games have changed since Tri it would be disappointing if they just brought it back for the sake of fanservice without "updating" it to the current gameplay style (and ofc environmental hazards could be applied underwater too, Abyssal Lagi's whirlpool being the first thign that comes to my mind).
I'm actually pretty sad there won't be a Lagiacrus in Rise, MH3U was my first game in the series, and I still remember that feeling, seeing him for the first time, and having to run away.
I can agree that from what I’ve seen from the GU Lagaicrus, it’s a disgrace. But I thinks it gets a bit too much heat. The new moves are cool, and the only problem is that it’s robbed of its showcase from seeing the differences between land and water combat. At least the developers acknowledged that the fans really want Lagaicrus to return, hopefully we’ll see him in the next Gen.
I'd argue Zinogre being so popular among both the developers and the fanbase gave them a reason not to worry about Lagiacrus until recently. But now because of the World alpha scene with it, the croc's out of the bag and everyone wants it back.
Do you have a source on Ivory being technically more of a variant? I couldn't find that anywhere, I'm pretty sure they're subspecies through and through
1:44 when you said some of us can even kill these flagships before their actual fight but not lagiacrus, you said because underwater is unfamiliar to the player.... In reality, even for an experienced player with strong low rank gear (sadly i don't have high rank gear in Tri) lagiacrus is probably unkillable in that quest because he has a bigger or infinite health pool... I broke all of his parts but lagiacrus neither died or falled captured in a trap. That lagiacrus is simply too strong to be beaten by any hunter, and i like it
My theory that devs intentionally hold lagiacrus for 6th gen monster hunter , they want to bring the underwater combat back , if they release it on sunbreak , the fight will similary like in mh generations when you cant see lagiacrus reach maximum potential and power , probably players will dominate lagia when fight on land especially with wirebug , so devs didnt want to waste this beautiful monster
i know they made him the way he is in generations to be not boring and predictable, but to help with immersion i think its a lagiacrus thats close to being an ivory lagiacrus but like a baby snake its pouring all of its power into its attacks (baby snakes use ALL their vemon making them more dangerous)
I mean, I love Ivory and I think GU Lagi is fun, but I really need the return of underwater combat along with Lagiacrus. Also I already love underwater combat in 3U
Did you drop the armor segment because of how unique Lagiacrus is or did you ditch it entirely? Personally, I feel like they stretched the videos out a bit too much and even though it was a neat idea it ultimately ended up being not as interesting.
This isn't an evolution video (although it ended up being similar to one), so I didn't bother with the armour segment. That being said I do agree with you, it's also not very interesting to edit. I'm gonna try something different with one more episode and if it's still boring I'm going to drop it.
I never really liked Lagiacrus, but I always appreciated how it parallels (and is paralleled by ) other monsters. Yian Kutku is a like a tutorial version of Rathian, which then progresses Rathalos. Similarly Tri has the progression of Royal Ludroth->Lagiacrus, which then progresses to Agnaktor if you only factor land based fights. This progression is helpful for new players since they can apply what they learned directly against harder but similar monsters. In P3rd, Zinogre essentially acted as land Lagiacrus, being a thunder flagship who was percieved to be terrorizing a village due to the intervention of an elder dragon, and is only able to use electrical attacks when certain conditions are met (being underwater vs needing to charge up). If Lagiacrus was in P3rd, I doubt Zinogre would be anything like he is today. It feels like these deliberate parallels were only done in gens 1 and 3 (With the closest comparison being Magnamalo's flame hitzones being used similarly to nergigante's spikes, or Magnamalo being very similar to the last japan themed game, although these are more tenuous) I hope gen 6 tries to do what gens 1 and 3 did, hopefully with another class of monster.
going off my introductions to flagships, i think Magnamalo was handled pretty poorly, he just sort of shows up, gets wrecked and then is never thought of again, meanwhile Nergigante shows up a few times as a side thing but then vanishes after you beat it i personally like Velkhanna most out of the ones i have played, he shows up, has a STRONG presence int he story and only leaves just before the final boss, he had a HUGE presence and it made me love him
The Nergigante thing is because he's the first base game flagship to be high rank exclusive, so they had more time to hype him up. Magnamalo fulfils his role just fine, tying into the story, being fun and tough to fight etc. Also yeah Velkhana is awesome.
@@HeavyWings Nergigante also shows signs of being there long befor eyou actually fight him Magnamalo just sort of shows up and leaves, he's a super fun fight but they could have hyped him a bit better, maybe if he was High Rank only instead of being the final Low Rank quest indeed
@@HeavyWings Nergigante does show up in low rank, but as a pest you can avoid during the Zorah Magdaros fight. Zorah basically takes the spot as the flagship low rank barrier fight instead of Nergigante. The problem with making Nergi more significant is that he is a monster that hunts Elder Dragons, and so can't be really relevant until other elders are introduced.
[19:20] I dunno, I have to disagree. I personally find Gen Lagiacrus fun to fight. To be fair I never played the games w/ underwater combat; my only games were 4U and Generations.
Saying Generations & GU Lagiacrus on land is just Khezu with music is like saying the Fatalis theme is just Forest & Hills theme with a choir. I don't think there's any fixing a flagship who's entire gimic is based around a dead mechanic & for everyone begging him to come back & not be another iteration of Khezu is asking for a dog turd that tastes like chocolate. It's not happening given Capcom's teams don't stick with a given theme for their games in any generation. We haven't seen seasons return nor competitive arena hunts, village farms or even lightning rods....remember using those to fight Kushala in the jungle during rainstorms? Probably not. If it's not relevant to the next big gimic, don't be disappointed with Lagiacrus's limitations as a "one trick pony." It was a cool fight but it's not one you can carry over in earnest to the true experience. Sorry, but get used to it. Lagiacrus peaked in its debut generation.
& TBH, given with what they had to work with, Lagiacrus in Generations was as good an iteration as it gets for a land-only fight with no water combat. They did a reasonable job with what they had & it's probably going to be the same in future games if water combat doesn't make a return in future titles. Not a terrible fight but still nothing like what we had in 3rd generation games.
When I first played mhw and I came across the beach I thought for sure this would be a miss opportunity if they didn’t at least try and sadly they didn’t
8:54 I don't know why you didn't mention this but, the most unique thing about Ivory L lore is that his colour is due to his diet : Quartz( yea i know it will aslo eat meat it's not its only diet), which explains why he's far more terrestrial Also i hope abyssal L will get dragon element in 6th gen, it's clearly a missed opportunity
Agreed on GU Lagi. Ivory and GU Lagiacrus are honestly the worst, they are just nothing but AOE, AOE, AOE, its not remotely fun to deal with that bullshit, he really is just Khezu 4.0. I love Lagi, he's one of the 4 monsters that got me interested in the series, when I first fought him in 3U I was very happy, so I really want underwater to return just so I can meet him again.
I feel like i have to play the devil's advocate for GU Lagi here for a bit, even though i feel similar about him being a chore. And to do that i have to beat a well known dead horse, so bear with me for a bit, please. Underwater was a good idea with a terrible execution. It was unconfortable and restricting in all the wrong ways. It was disorienting and felt like you had to fight with an arm cut off. I get it why, but contrasting it with the upgrades terrestrial combat got in gen 3, it felt all the more painful to go underwater when you had to. (So if and when underwater comes back, i hope to all the gods that it will be reworked to be less of a mess.) I'm obviously not saying you can't enjoy or have good memories with UW, but ultimately it was not as well executed as it should have been, in my opinion. It was cool to experience, but not to re-experience. Keeping this in mind, I never enjoyed fighting Lagiacrus much. He's a cool monster, absolutely. However objectively speaking, all three of his 3U versions are sub-par monsters when it comes to long-term fightability (it that's even a word). Regular has the long AOE that you have to scramble to prevent underwater or wait like 10 seconds to finish. His obnoxious roar hitbox that can barely be blocked and can't be rolled without evasion skills (or at all uw) and of course the absolute crown jewel, the (holy shit i hate underwater windpress) currents he does with every tail flip and disengage. God help you if you're not running lance. I absolutely disagree with Ivory being better than GU regular. The single reason is that: unmanageable head HZs that make you bounce on white/purple have never been good, not only design wise, but the idea itself is the spawn of satan. Absolutely disgusting piece of coding. Imagine trying to hit the belly or tail and him just using his lmao yeet nowindup disengage/180 turn and you just bounce. Or your overheads getting caught in his head, that's BEHIND YOU. Having to run mind's eye as a comfy skill on a monster because of one hitzone that you're actively trying to avoid is frankly fucking ridiculous. And Abyssal itself is just the combination of underwater regular with amped up currents AND the low HZ head. It's very 3U, but that's, sadly, not a good thing. So yes, GU regular, while being a boring ass big ludroth-khezu, is still an improvement over the 3U trio. In my opinion.
Lagiacrus was the flagship of the first monster hunter game I ever played, and I would love for underwater combat to return! To all the naysayers of underwater I say: We fought Kushala for a decade before he was an actually fun fight in Rise. Infinity flying wyverns who can just camp you from the air and you complain about underwater? That said it would be underwater with modern controls so It would be a lot better.
not all of them, nibblesnarf is not a sea creature; lagi has an underwater only rare species, as well as a mosty land focused subspecies so not all of them use both types of combat. nibblesnarf and gobul are also not the usual shape of leviathans. i still think it's sad that these flagships have no theme. in the past, like in MHW during his intro there's a reference to the theme for the first map in the first game that some associate with him but ti's just for that scene. i personally think the theme is meh, not terrible but very much below the bar for MH music and Fatalis' theme being a clone of that as the final boss making a slightly altered first theme is a bit lazy but i digress. i imagine even if the map is not there, or is well a similar environment but a new map lagiacus' intro will have the deserted island theme playing. there was info suggesting they wanted to try underwater combat again in MHW but it was cut very early in development do to time and prioritizing the new stuff for 5th gen. MHW had a lot of interesting things cut, some of which we see in the lagiacrus demo we got before they decided to cut him. since then we've gotten many excuses *cough* explination *cpough* *cough* for him getting cut. you used motion capture for rajang, make a dam lagi/snake wyvern puppet and use that so you can make as many new lagiacrus animations/snake animations as you want on any simulated terrain. they could also use ivory ideas again, making ivory die the same death of irrelevance as green nargacuga wit hthe base monster gaining his gimmicks. how many of your forgot green nargacuga? fair enough, gu's version was a bit much but it's to make up for hunter systle/arts so in the future if they green nargacuga him it won't be that necessarily. i hope we get underwater someday, like 7th gen is my bet because odd gens are for larger changes/risks, where even ones are for building on what worked/adding smaller things. if underwater combat got the level or rework, and fluidity upgrade that 5th gen gave us i'd be all for it.
I dunno, underwater combat could work on pc I reckon, but that excludes consoles, and in order to make it bearable would need to be changed considerably and I can't imagine that being done without sacrificing the current control layout which will throw a lot of people off. I'd be fine with having to learn an extra bit of movement tech for underwater combat, maybe something incorporating the strings from rise without the restriction of gravity
I think Lagiacrus (in all his glory) and the water combat can return. Since stories 1and 2, and rise introduces riding. I think it would be possible to make water combat more smooth and fluid (pun intended). As well as hookwire/underwater "bug" wire could also help. I originally started on gen, then 4u, IB, and Rise. Then now I am playing 3u, I don't find the water combat infuriating or bad. But I noticed that most of my time underwater is movement or adjusting my approach (which unlike on gen and 4u, I am always attacking the monster 99% of the time or just speedrunning the hunt) So I think tri or 3u's underwater combat is not bad. Though it needs to be polished and improved if it was to be reimplemented.
Underwater combat is not critical to the fight. They simply need to incorporate the waist-deel water mechanic from MHW into his encounter, and have him submerge himself during certain attacks/sections of the fight. Lagiacrus could easily be a fight that utilizes water and puts you at a direct disadvantage without forcing you to slog through underwater combat.
Fun fact about tri: it was originally meant to be on the ps3 however due to Sony giving capcom a small budget and nearly no time to publish the game and the fact that the ps3 was… well we all know how bad it was. Regardless Nintendo offered capcom everything they wanted with the only thing being the fact that they wanted tri to only be on the Wii and capcom agreed to it.
It wasn't even the focus of the game it was introduced in, yet they still had to cut so much to make it work due to scope constraints. It's not even that Tri had rushed development, it didn't, they just reasonably couldn't do everything AND develop underwater combat.

In Gen 5, similarly to Chameleos and Lucent Nargacuga, he gained the impressive ability to turn completely invisible
Lmaoooo
Lagiacrus, The Herobrine of Monster Hunter
And as a result, he never turned visible again
Lagiacrus isn't invisible, he is just standing in the ocean, menacingly, waiting for any unfortunate hunter to fall in the sea and eat it.
Jokes aside, i was hoping that lagia would have arrived from the beach in the forest map of world with an update at some point
I would love a video that focuses on underwater combat and whether it would return.
You got your wish my friend lol
Just wanted to point that out
I hope that when he does return he doesn't get used to show how strong a new monster is like they've done with other flagships.
Since he's a returning monster they'll probably hype him up a lot.
Swing.. Swim.. Swing.."
Lagia is definitely much more fun in UW, BUT GenUs Lagia is as well, since he is more of Ivory Lagia.
Thank you!
Same
i recon 1 way they could fix Lagiacrus WHILE keeping him on land is to have his thunder work differently in wet zones, so when on land he can do basic lagiacrus stuff + the AOE shock, but when in water like in the swamp or on a beach, the lighting could travel covering more space, that way you keep the water benefits to his fight
although they should definitely remove that weird ghost orbs floating around him move, it doesn't seem like HIM is all
Don't forget the wycoon trader, you can trade materials for other materials of other monsters not In the game in 4u, including lagiacrus, abyssal lagi, heck even Yama Tsukami, dire miralis, lavasioth, Lucent nargacuga, ceadeus and the list can go on
this shouldve been implemented into the argosy in world/iceborne for the cut monsters, huge missed opportunity (modders anyone?)
@@Oddball_1943 Wycoon exists in 4U because they could reuse models from the psp games and 3 Ultimate pretty easily. But that feature hasn't returned for games like World and Rise because they've had to remake them all in high definition, which is pretty expensive to do.
@@HeavyWings that's fair, but it still would've been nice to see for the cut monsters
Mmm. Mh3u was my introduction to monster hunter even tho I didn't actually sit down and play until rise. Seeing Lagi as your first flagship is delicious
It’s crazy that it’s the same for me but my fist game was world
@@turnipmanz1754 3 u was a game I always wanted to play when I was a kid unfortunately my mother couldn't afford a console so my first game was world.
@@biggnesss7192 hey man I didn't start monster hunter til I was 30 so don't sweat it. Sunbreak is the only online meta I've ever been a part of
Lagiacrus is forever my favorite monster in the series since I started with Tri.
I am honestly predicting underwater combat will return in Gen 6
We know the MH Team desperately want Lagiacrus back, and the team are known to have listened to feedback with other games, so I can see the feature returning but much improved
@@necrosim To add, I don't see a reasonable way to rework underwater combat.
@@Amatsaru29 agreed. I thought about that afterwards as well but didn't feel like editing my comment.
as much as i like hunter's mobility in 4th and 5th gen, i would like 6th gen to tone it down a bit, back to grounded, no much flashy movement (but keep switch skills, that shit nuts), i want the feeling of monsters back to being daunting, not being a joke
@@alderwield9636 How is great jaggi "daunting"?
For clunky as underwater combat was on a wii...i miss it dearly. I remember back when Lagia was 1st teased and ppl thought it was a water type fatalis.
It's not too bad on Wii but there's room for improvement.
bro no matter how many monster hunter games will come you just cant beat that feeling of first fighting a lagiacruz underwater. that was just pure magic it will always be my favorite monster and arena in monster hunter
Kind of shocked we never got him in Rise or Sunbreak tbh. With Mizu and Ludroth coming back aswell as us getting Almudron i thought for sure Lagi would come haha guess we gotta wait for MH6
It bought joy to me talking about lagiacrus, thx
I'll be ready for the underwater combat video that will come at some point, it's exciting to think that mh6 could feature underwater combat, even if a small degree
I can't be the only one who got hit right in the nostalgia when the Tri version of Proof of a Hero swelled at the start of the video.
Ever since the announcement of underwater combat returning for Wilds, I have been very excited for them to bring Lagiacrus back since they have no excuse now
Hyper Lagiacrus is scary, hyper shell shockers give his lightning attacks more damage and range.
that thing haunt me as i want to make hyper lagi db as thunder db back in GU, lowkey it force me to learn striker lance for charge poke playstyle after i saw a lance speedrun
Finally a balanced look at whether or not we should have Lagiacrus
I think this was the first time I've ever heard an in-depth explanation of why Lagiacrus' body is too low to work. Thanks.
the devs also said underwater combat would've came back in world if they could have fixed Lagiacrus
you all ever have that youtube channel you just instinctively like the video because you know its going to 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Though I have never experienced MH3's underwater combat mechanic to know if it was good or bad, I believe it should return so that Lagiacrus can comeback along with some new and old underwater monsters as well.
Why does everyone hate GUs Lagiacrus? ) :
It's in my top 5 fights of the entire game.
If they can't add a lagi fight to the next game I would settle for a reference to him. Like you can see him in certain maps being a menace
They did well with CC Valstrax, is I don’t see why not. Plus, maybe it’s better to keep lagiacrus exclusive from the series any further.
I wonder if they figure out Lagi that also means other monsters with snake like bodies (snake wyverns) will have a chance of showing up again.
In my opinion they should have add Ivory instead of the base one in MHGU, would have been more logic and a better fight, they can even add him in Rise Sunbreak
Lets just all agree that we need more Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter :)
He is my favorite monster. I wish he could make it in a new game but at least i know the devs have been trying for world and rise but haven’t been able to make it work yet. I’ll huff the copium and hope he will be in the next one haha
IT IS THE BOI!!!!!!!
What was strange was that he was a water type monster weak to fire
Something that I feel is worth mentioning is considering how the current world-based game mechanics could be used to improve the land Lagiacrus experience through environmental factors. For example if you fight it in an area with shallow water some of its physical attacks could cause waves that would hit you, knocking you off balance and potentially adding waterblight to you (or the mud blight if in a flooded forest like map), or they could just go the Jyuratodus way and make it dive where you can just walk :P
I also think you should fight Lagi in areas without terrain elevations or anything you can climb to get a heigt advantage (unless Capcom decides to make it able to climb cliffs somehow), otherwise hitting the horns could get too easy with the current player mobility.
My favorite monster in the series
I'd argue Zinogre being so popular among both the developers and the fanbase gave them a reason not to worry about Lagiacrus until recently.
But now because of the World alpha scene with it, the croc's out of the bag and everyone wants it back.
Do you have a source on Ivory being technically more of a variant? I couldn't find that anywhere, I'm pretty sure they're subspecies through and through
Maybe just because Tri was my first game, but I actually liked water combat despite the jank
I think that if World had underwater battles it would have been even better! 👌🏽
That lagiacrus is simply too strong to be beaten by any hunter, and i like it
Oh yeah I should have mentioned it's straight up impossible for him to die there.
Isn't Somnacanth a leviathan as well?
i know they made him the way he is in generations to be not boring and predictable, but to help with immersion i think its a lagiacrus thats close to being an ivory lagiacrus but like a baby snake its pouring all of its power into its attacks (baby snakes use ALL their vemon making them more dangerous)
MH6 will bring back underwater combat, I can feel it and my body is ready
Guess I should practice my reading. My bad.
It feels like these deliberate parallels were only done in gens 1 and 3 (With the closest comparison being Magnamalo's flame hitzones being used similarly to nergigante's spikes, or Magnamalo being very similar to the last japan themed game, although these are more tenuous)
I hope gen 6 tries to do what gens 1 and 3 did, hopefully with another class of monster.
It also kind of worked with Gen 2
Blangonga --> Rajang
Baroth got some data to explore
Jammed to the Möbius theme!
going off my introductions to flagships, i think Magnamalo was handled pretty poorly, he just sort of shows up, gets wrecked and then is never thought of again, meanwhile Nergigante shows up a few times as a side thing but then vanishes after you beat it
i personally like Velkhanna most out of the ones i have played, he shows up, has a STRONG presence int he story and only leaves just before the final boss, he had a HUGE presence and it made me love him
The Nergigante thing is because he's the first base game flagship to be high rank exclusive, so they had more time to hype him up. Magnamalo fulfils his role just fine, tying into the story, being fun and tough to fight etc.
Also yeah Velkhana is awesome.
@@HeavyWings Nergigante also shows signs of being there long befor eyou actually fight him
Magnamalo just sort of shows up and leaves, he's a super fun fight but they could have hyped him a bit better, maybe if he was High Rank only instead of being the final Low Rank quest
indeed
You have not seen zinogre.
gore haunting you from the start until it evolves :
>:)
Lagiacrus is my second favourite monster second to only dalamadur
I really wish they could do underwater combat better for new games, I have yet to experience that
As much as i miss this monster and want him to come back in gen 5 looks like capcom just won't do it
2009 was only in Japan for MH Tri, for the majority of us in the west it was 2010
[19:20] I dunno, I have to disagree. I personally find Gen Lagiacrus fun to fight. To be fair I never played the games w/ underwater combat; my only games were 4U and Generations.
Still waiting for Kirin ⚡🐎
Not a terrible fight but still nothing like what we had in 3rd generation games.
man tri ultimate seems fun, but i am too afraid of going underwater to try it lmao
You forgot to go over the armor history
Bring back Lagiacrus so capcom will also rerelease their Lagiacrus Creators
Model back!
When I first played mhw and I came across the beach I thought for sure this would be a miss opportunity if they didn’t at least try and sadly they didn’t
8:54 I don't know why you didn't mention this but, the most unique thing about Ivory L lore is that his colour is due to his diet : Quartz( yea i know it will aslo eat meat it's not its only diet), which explains why he's far more terrestrial
Also i hope abyssal L will get dragon element in 6th gen, it's clearly a missed opportunity
I know I'm late but I played mhtri and got to lagiacris but could not beat him
Agreed on GU Lagi.
I Hope we get landconquest lagiacrus from explore, the only good lagiacrus (aside from gu lagi)🗿🙏
tbh im glad underwater combat is gone. I never had fun with the controlls and i felt really slow. I just couldnt really get into it
I feel like i have to play the devil's advocate for GU Lagi here for a bit, even though i feel similar about him being a chore.
Yes, underwater combat should return. I loved it in 3 and 3U.
As annoying as under water combat was, I hope they bring it back for nostalgias sake
They just need to improve underwater mechanic
not all of them, nibblesnarf is not a sea creature; lagi has an underwater only rare species, as well as a mosty land focused subspecies so not all of them use both types of combat. nibblesnarf and gobul are also not the usual shape of leviathans.
i still think it's sad that these flagships have no theme. in the past, like in MHW during his intro there's a reference to the theme for the first map in the first game that some associate with him but ti's just for that scene. i personally think the theme is meh, not terrible but very much below the bar for MH music and Fatalis' theme being a clone of that as the final boss making a slightly altered first theme is a bit lazy but i digress. i imagine even if the map is not there, or is well a similar environment but a new map lagiacus' intro will have the deserted island theme playing.
there was info suggesting they wanted to try underwater combat again in MHW but it was cut very early in development do to time and prioritizing the new stuff for 5th gen.
Bring back underwater combat, it’s fun and challenging.
Lagiacrus is perfect, MHXX did him dirty
I think Lagiacrus (in all his glory) and the water combat can return. Since stories 1and 2, and rise introduces riding.
I think it would be possible to make water combat more smooth and fluid (pun intended). As well as hookwire/underwater "bug" wire could also help.
I originally started on gen, then 4u, IB, and Rise. Then now I am playing 3u, I don't find the water combat infuriating or bad. But I noticed that most of my time underwater is movement or adjusting my approach (which unlike on gen and 4u, I am always attacking the monster 99% of the time or just speedrunning the hunt)
So I think tri or 3u's underwater combat is not bad.
I still havent fought Lagi yet.
Please MH6 fix that!
He's so fun. I wish they would bring back abyssal.
ahahaha imagine hunting a hyper G rank lagiacrus in GU, hahah, yeah, just imagine... THE PAIN
Idk why but i allways pronounced it
La-gi-a-crus...
I heard someone say it the way I pronounce it, and it stuck.
More like Mid-iacrus
Fun fact about tri: it was originally meant to be on the ps3 however due to Sony giving capcom a small budget and nearly no time to publish the game and the fact that the ps3 was… well we all know how bad it was. Regardless Nintendo offered capcom everything they wanted with the only thing being the fact that they wanted tri to only be on the Wii and capcom agreed to it.
Underwater combat should really return, but not as the focus of the game
It wasn't even the focus of the game it was introduced in, yet they still had to cut so much to make it work due to scope constraints. It's not even that Tri had rushed development, it didn't, they just reasonably couldn't do everything AND develop underwater combat.
