It really is a fun game. I've been playing for a long time but people who play lots of ranked games scare me. Custom games are the best when everyone knows the rules.
I stumbled onto this video randomly while sifting through AoM stuff (also love the game, probably my favorite age game if not favorite overall RTS, I mostly play Hades and Loki, btw) and it took me a minute to notice that I know you from your GW2 content. Had no idea you were into RTS. Glad to see you doing this sort of content. Definitely want to see more.
Extremely underrated video! I also started playing AoM again about a week ago, after not playing for ~10 years. I've always loved it, my only complain would be that the difficulity jump from easy mode to moderate is a bit extreme, but other than that, the game aged well. Keep up the great work 🍻
Oh for sure! I got rocked against the 3 ai! I'm sure there is ways to do it, perhaps if I were a bit excessive on my aggression. Thank you for the kind words!
My advice to u , is try to make as much villagers as u can so u have good economy to make big army , and u better take economical upgrades as fast as u can and also take armory upgrades , with these tips u should be able to beat hard Ai in no time good luck

Age of Mythology is far from simplistic; it has tons of units, diverging tech trees, random map generation, etc. It's actually one of the most complex RTS games available.
Thanks for the video. For someone like me who hasn't played this game, but was fascinated with Warcraft III or AoE 2, the remake looks like a great opportunity to jump in and have some fun
Just to clarify for you, this is not the remake (aka Retold, using the upgraded BANG! Engine that AOE3 DE used, for context BANG! is the engine AOM was built on). This is the Extended Edition which added modern system capabilities new lighting and a few other improvements like improved texture compression (so more in line with AOE2HD). Retold is the remake (kind of) in the same way that the Definitive Edition games are.
My issues with modern RTS titles is that they build them as sweaty competitive nerd dungeons with balance and "e-sports readiness" as a priority and only then smash together a skin to cover their generic rts title. Best way to describe it is that the older games had a feel. when you played age of mythology or age of empires everything from the visuals, gameplay, audio screamed those games You had no doubts. And most importantly, they forget to make it fun. If i want hollow you win screens ill go play starcraft im here for real gameplay where you have an enjoyable time win OR lose. Its so sad how most games nowadays are geared to make you feel accomplished by winning rather than giving you an enjoyable experience especially in the RTS genre. Its pathetic if the only sense of pride and achievement you get in the day is from beating a stranger in a video game and its the only reason you played that game. No wonder the market for singleplayer games is dead. People forgot why we play games in the first place.
creating teams of each type of damage with ctrl + (#) makes micro managing mid combat really easy, also cannot wait for retold I hope it comes out soon and gets the attention this game deserves

AoM is the best game imo, it is way more better than modern games, no micro transactions, the graphics was good and the gameplay In fact most of the old games are better than modern games
oh it's getting a remake called AOM Retold, Feb23 will have a dev talks released for this game, waiting patiently. Age of Empires 1-2-3 have Definitive Editions as well if you wanna try, absolutely worth it.
I used to play this game for hours on end. I eventually had to install a mod to improve the AI but it still wasn't enough to be challenging, and since nobody plays pvp anymore I had to quit playing.
I love AoE 2 exactly for the same reason but with DE they made the perfect compromise for me between old school and modern (Graphics, UI...+ Rework of the Forgotten Campaigns but I think the old ones were good as well. You can even play the old versions in DE as custom campaigns.
I had a feeling this game was good. That's why i play at keast a couple of times a week, and never get bored. Although, mine doesn't have the *giant map setting...
I returned a couple of months ago, been playing AOE2 DE for a couple of years. But once I saw there's the "auto queue" button I lost interest. I want to play competitive and that kinda kills competition for me. I watched quite a few matches and they all end up becoming unit spam fests.
Thats why macro is what wins games not micro and there are people in top 1000 ranked that have less than 200 apms Its not all micro, but i can see how that can repel some people and you might skip these games Thats why i like aom Its perfect middle Yes there is autoque, but pop limit is so much smaller that its nkt really unit spam game, rather than keeping your stack healthy and alive while also raiding, all the time Not sure if you played wh40k original dow But there you could autoque units ON UNITS through reinforcements, it didnt make game less skill expressionate, it made it more aggressive where the skirmishes would start very early and would never really stop It was attrition Aoe games are more similar to that than to sc/wc games in that regard

There both as good it’s a matter of which game you prefer I personally prefer age of empires tho age of mythology is Awsome to

I must've saw a doctored ad that showed the Playstation logo, so now I have to hope my legion laptop from 2021 can run it
Try building a granary and getting hunting dogs in the start, and put the units and vills on autoqueue
Hey that tip really helped!
hey what do you mean by autoqueue? just shifting their next task? or is there a way to have them do something automatically
