I feel like this episode would have been great if it had had two more birthday scenes. Presumably, Riker is celebrating his 34th birthday in the opening scene, which means he'd be 50 when he wakes up. If future Riker was taking stock of what his life had become at 50 years old (beoming captain, having a family) and deciding if he liked this version of himself or not, they could end the show with his going back to his birthday party and thinking about where he is and where he'll be 16 years in the future. That would be a much better button.
A bit of a coincidence that you guys started advertising a Babylon 5 podcast when one of the main actors from B5 played Tomolak, and was one of the most memorable performances in all of sci-fi as G'kar. ❤
It's crazy that this episode made Andreas Katsulas so uncomfortable. He was in over 100 episodes of Babylon 5 and was arguably one of the best characters.
You guys are the only commentary/watch podcast that I can handle for Star Trek. I think it’s because I’m roughly the same age as you so and I think you have the same vibe of loving Star Trek while realizing how dumb it is. Keep up the good work. Definitely move on to DS9 when it’s time. I recommend parallel watching like we had to back in the 90s.
@NewbieStarTrek Temple of Doom was the reason PG-13 exists, so when you say Spielberg can do what ever he wants, this is sort of true... At the time of Temple of Doom there was no PG-13. Even Raiders had to obscure Belloq's exploding head with a column of fire to avoid an R rating, and Temple also pushed the limits of PG. The MPAA wanted to give Temple an R rating, but Spielberg argued that, while it could be too violent or gory for children, it was also clearly a work of fantasy that didn't deem being restricted to 17 and up. While Temple kept its PG rating, this spurred the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating, at Spielberg's suggestion, to have an intermediate between PG and R. The first movie to get PG-13 was Red Dawn. Gremlins was also cited for pushing the limits of PG and contributed to this decision.

I’ve relistened to the whole Riker freakout on the bridge part so many times the last couple days. Y’all on fire there.

😂 You've been Flight of the Navigator-ed! 😂
Compliance... Number One! 😅
@NewbieStarTrek it wasn't a Klingon that he saw that made Riker make that remark, it was a Ferengi.
Three of the last five episodes have been about one of the leading male characters having unexpected sons in some way.
Fatherhood was on the writers' minds
Oh I love this episode, especially the part discussed at 48:30.
@NewbieStarTrek, Dan, it needed to be 16 years later to plausibly inject the alien child into the story.
OMG! A new ST podcast. Subbed!
Start at the beginning and forgive them for the names they butcher as they go. It really is an awesome series.
@@jeffeffa78 absolutely stary from the beginning
🖖
Yeah the crew @livelongandpodcast do a solid ST Podcast

This was such a hrad case episode but I did like the development of Riker this time
Who will take over my chain of gagh trucks if I don't have a son?
You'll always be Jean-Luc to me
This is my favorite episode simply because it's the first one to exist after me.
This is a hilarious idea for a podcast
Post pictures of Rigby!
This is the It was all a holodeck ep and you didn’t remark!!
I thought we did oh no
@@NewbieStarTrek oh maybe I missed it

This is either one of the best, or one of the stupidest episodes of TNG. I don't know which one. But it's not in between.
It's like an optical illusion, it depends on the angle and mood you're looking at it
Captain Kirk secretly had a son
Dumb question...is that Gilbert Gottfried passed out in the left back?
Hahahaha it's Jason Statham
Maybe you should have watched Babylon 5 first, then you'll know who played Tomalak, and why he was (and still is) such a legend.
For the algorithm
They should watch Orville its more like star trek
