Bellissima musica ed esecuzione impeccabile. L'alternanza tra gregoriano e polifonia crea un'atmosfera senza tempo

For me, too clean and pretty to be about the dead. Death is ugly and painful. Grieving is hard. Dieing is hard. This is prim and polished and void of real feeling.

@@jj.mounier48 Sorry, I wish I spoke french. I think google translate didn't work properly for you, or it isn't working properly for me. I did not come here looking for happy music. I came here for sad music. But the ensemble's performance was not sad. It was clean and pretty. They did not bring the emotions I wanted to feel (in my opinion). This performance sounded like someone reading a report out loud. It did not sound like a mother screaming because her child had died. And I believe this music should sound like a mother screaming because her child had died.

These are parts of the Extrordinary Form of the Mass. They are solemn prayers to God the Creator for the dead. These solemn prayers are to give glory to God and entreat His mercy during the Mass. It's not a place or time for theatrical performances. They are prayers.

    • @matthewwalsh7813

@@shiremom4 Bahahaha. Really? These are parts of the mass? And they're latin? Gosh, I am SO glad you were here to clear that up for me! Next thing I know, your gonna tell me this music was composed 450 years ago or something CRAZY like that!
In all sincerity, your outrageous out-of-touch-ness with humanity coupled with the bewildering level of pomposity of your comment is a prime example of why OUR religion is dying. There is a world of subtle distinction between an adroit and earnest interpretation of text and a "theatrical performance." I honestly find it a pity that you don't seem to possess the faculties or experience required to understand that. You state that this text is a prayer. Well then I say, they were praying as if they were reading the nutrition facts off the back of a can of beans. I struggle to see the point you are trying to make. Is it that prayer should be void of humanity? Of emotion? Even if this secular concert was by any stretch of the imagination a prayer (and it was not), your comment would still completely baffle me.
I also find it amusing that you are just plain incorrect, theologically. This is a funeral mass setting. Its whole bloody point is to entreat for the deceased, to offer a sacrifice on their behalf, and to induce in the bereaved a cathartic transition from grief to hope. Glorification and adoration are not a focal point. Which is why the gloria is omitted. Gosh this is tedious, having to explain this to someone who clearly holds themself to be so intelligent.
And once again, just to be absolutely clear for the record: this was a secular group singing a secular concert in a secular hall, for which a probably very diverse audience bought a ticket on a secular platform in order to attend. This was not a mass. It wasn't trying to be a mass. It was a performance. It was not a prayer.

Great music. But I cannot bear the sopranos, they destroy my ears.
