But their record-setting projects have all served the purpose of research, and the current representative, Bertrand, is no exception.

Bertrand Piccard tackles challenges that others consider impossible. He completed the first ever non-stop round-the-world flight in a balloon, and is the initiator, chairman and Pilot of the “Solar Impulse” project: a solar airplane which is going to travel around the world in 2015 without a single drop of fuel. Psychiatrist, he draws from his hypnosis training and his interest in Eastern philosophies a different look that puts the human being and their quality of life in the foreground.

Your website says that Auguste noticed the “curvature” but a Science magazine says that he said it was “flat with an upturned edge”. Which is true?

Actually they didn't attribute the quote to Piccard and since it was a phenomenon caused by refraction and known for at least 30 years before he made his flight, he would hardly have said it.
Plus the windows on his gondola were in the upper part and he could not have looked directly down anyway.
