Completely agree. The SBC and engine knowledge between those two - yet they drove it as a smoke show and for what... Is this the content that gets people to go beyond the pay-wall for full episodes? Weird.
@@N-Lee That's what the original Cannonball Run van crew did. They stopped in the next town from where I live and bought all of the tranny fluid they had in stock. He was pouring it in as they drove coast to coast.

I can relate. One time in my early 20’s I got a ticket for excessive smoke. Little S10. Also no insurance and an invalid license. Cop let me go but said I couldn’t drive. Passed him about 15 minutes later and got the same ticket in the mail about 2 weeks later. Lol. Glad those days are behind me.
I used to have a diesel truck like that - I think it was running more on oil than on diesel. Had to refill the crankcase more often than the tank. I sold for $600 to a farmer years ago, and I think he is still using it as is.
I bought a brand new 1975 Toyota Hilux SR5 Longbed when I was 18 years old back in '75. Loved that truck. seeing that body style brought back memories!
Reminds me of a Pacer a friend drove years ago, couldn't say what year. He had a funnel on the dash with a hose running to the valve cover. Passenger's job was to dump in a quart every 5 miles or so..
Yea I was gonna say that clearly needs an exhaust clamp. Good call, state patrol. I miss this show a lot, too bad it's only in an app now. Won't ever happen, nice try, MT.
I had a Lincoln MKVII with the 5.0 motor that started using oil (nowhere near that bad though) and I switched to 20-50 which was like molasses and it cured the oil consumption problem. 😂 😂
That was so cool that you can see the air slip stream off the tailgate and the roof of the truck. NASCAR could learn some stuff by putting smokey motors in their cars!
I can relate to this a bit . I was pulling a trailer in my old caprice up a LONG LONG hill, saw a bunch of smoke, didint care. If the rings let loose oh well . Now I can’t see the traffic behind me. I pulled over. I blew a seal,it leaked all over and caught on fire. It burned to the ground it took 20 minutes for the fire department to arrive. We had gotten the trailer disconnected and pushed it back . They had to carry it away, nothing left.
My buddy and I drove a 1970 IH Scout from MN to CA about 15 years ago, it burned a quart of oil every 50 miles or so. We quit checking, just pulled over and added it with the engine running. The entire back area was full of empty oil cans when we got home.
had n old chevy with a straight six that had broken rings, it burned oil at about 50:1.... had to stop every so often to fill up the oil and check the gas level..
Shades of a series of $100 beater 1960's Chevy V-8's and a Plymouth slant 6 I had in college and just after (total of about 3 years). Every 100 miles or so, put in $5.00 gas (about 9 gallons) and 2 quarts of supermarket brand non-detergent $1.29/gallon oil. I recall both Chevys only had 7 working cylinders in their last months. All 3 ended up local junkyards after I got done with them.
God, you guys are living my dream! I’ve always wanted to take a beater on a road trip just to see if we make it to our destination, and what it takes to keep it going when (or if) it breaks down.
Kinda funny I once did a Ny to FL run in my turbo B20 Integra and it literally burned all the oil like every 100 miles. Fault to the turbo tho. Switched back to all motor in FL and drive back to NY no issues. Sold the motor to a friend and then it was introduced to a turbo again. Made great power and lasted for a few more years until gaskets went bad. Beast of a motor lasted even more years after gasket replacements and my down country burning every last drip of oil lol kinda says something about Honda motors tbh Honda ftw
Good one boy's, but my old VW diesel had you beat by a mile it smoked so bad all the cars behind will hit the shoulder or hit the brakes hard total blue cloud every time you start it and had to be juiced ! Even more exciting was when it did start smoking it went wide open on its own on the freeway it wind up to about 85 blowins 85 blowing such a cloud and throttle was stuck wide open because it cranked case began to recycle it would lose about a quart or 2 in that episode and no kidding I was afraid people would wreck behind me cause there was 0 visibility !! It would slow down only after it sucked up a bunch of oil and then I suppose you could turn the key off and hopefully that would shut it down but as I recall there was no way to shut it down until it blew through the oil... I discovered all this on a trip to Canada and guess what we made it back home as well I discovered all this on a trip to Canada and guess what we made it back home as well...
Ha ha i was genuinely surprised they just kept running it, I thought for sure they'd pull half the engine apart in a carpark somewhere and fix the leak 🐨
Yeah, same. If I had an engine that burned that much oil I would’ve just plummed a bottle of oil to the crankcase breather valve to feed it oil from inside the cab. Abt a quart for every mile or just fill a tank w oil, & feed it to the motor. Or just yank the motor, & drop in a junkyard 5.3.
I had an 84 Nissan/datsun pickup that smoked so bad I put empty quart bottle on pcv to dump back in motor. Could see the Tappanzee bridge when I drove over it. Lmfao but made it 3hrs home
I'm liking the front of this little gem. Grandpa had a mid 70s Datsun very similar. That thing deserves a crate motor! You spent 25% of that cost in oil alone to get there.
I've driven a chevy with a small block that smoked and it never brown down sometimes it moked because it got low on oil and will leaky or valve you just add some 10w40 that will do the trick.

Never felt bad for the environment when watching roadkill till this episode
It takes about 6 1/2 years for my truck to burn as much oil as they did in 2 days.

China is the real environment problem anyway
@Blackie BMW Motorwerks and what about Greta... So you tell me
@@Mike.trucks China is ONE environmental problem...the US is, also.
I am almost disappointed that they didn't just buy a barrel of 15w-40 from tractor supply, and roll down the highway with the barrel in the bed.
Or just run a hose from the valve cover hole into the cab so they could just keep pouring while driving.

Why wouldn't they put some Lucas or some other oil additive to slow down the oil consumption?!?! Because Roadkill...😆
Man, how did you guys pass up that perfect opportunity to test out the latest and greatest in engine sealing snake-oil?
Smoke? What smoke? In the 70s, nobody would have noticed.
A quick stop somewhere to swap in a fresher small block would be cheaper.
exactly, they did it with the Elky in Summit's parking lot.
My “first car “ was a ‘74 Hilux, same blue color as under the hood of this one. Seeing this brings back memories ✌️

Lol!
I think that is how the old Indy cars did it right? They had a mechanic ride with the driver to do things like that.
At this point I would’ve used smokeless 2 stroke oil with some Lucas lol!
