We know that these high fragrances are often "high" only in name.
Despite personal taste, I think you are analyzing/criticizing/comparing a designer perfume from the perspective of a person who loves niche perfumes.
You say you would like it to be "different" and go further, but I can assure you, that despite what you believe, this entire YSL line including Caftan, is already something different from what the current massive commercial/design perfume industry provides, and yet, they remain commercial and it only becomes exclusive because of the publicity and the price tag.
That's the brief, and I believe it is enough for the brand (not just YSL, but Chanel, Dior, etc) and for most people, who love to buy something that is "exclusive". Most of people just want to smell good, and not necessarily on an olfactory journey.
Don't expect to find something different and amazing and outside the box is this lines, even more nowadays, where conglomerates are dominating and destroying brands and their creative freedom.
By the way, Caftan is deliciously enough for me 😊
I can appreciate that ...I am still gonna rib em though... these high end lines should be more than this IMHO
Just like you, I don’t like sweet fragrances but I have a sweet tooth. I enjoy eating sugar but I don’t want to smell like sugar 😂

Some of Prins frags are just brutal... although I think I would take that style which bothers me over the dull & drab releases like YSL are pumping out lately... myself is pure poverty

Honestly this smells like a 30 to 40 dollar fragrance.. I think it would be a good value for money for 30 or 40 bucks but that's what it should be... 300 is YSL taking the piss

I'm not a lot into modern designers but Tuxedo is a nice one to me. Never smelled Caftan but YSL isnt a house that makes me want to explore more.

As Rich would say, Tuxedo is shite. I understand that we all have different tastes but gosh I just do not get all the hype this one gets. Last year I blind bought Tuxedo, I found it awful and my husband was not impressed at all. Babycat gets a lot of hype too and I do not get it all. I remember trying Babycat at the Guerlain shop for the 1st time. The SA was really excited when she had me try it. I am sure she was sure I would love it. But I was like "well it is similar to other fragrances I have already smelled". I was not impressed and I found it kind of "meh". I did enjoy Caftan but I did not buy it. Now listening to your description, I know why : it is too designery to justify such a price tag. In the YSL Le Vestiaire des Parfums collection, the only fragrances that I feel are really worth the buy are the black bottle collection. I own 2 from that collection :"24 rue de l'Université" and "6 Place Saint Sulpice". But as my nose and taste mature, I only wear "6 Place Saint Sulpice"
I haven't smelled any of the black line... but I really think YSL has crashed into the side of the mountain at this point 🏔

I bought tuxedo on a blind buy / frag hype at the time. Starting out as I don’t have many like this and the only designer scents I have are Dior Homme Parfum/ intense . (Tom ford nor extreme and decoration don’t last long on my skin so I’m selling them new)
It opens up kinda sparkling to me. It doesn’t last long though. Tuxedo is a nice introduction. But I like the more heavy scented enigma… amber , oud scents.
I do have the discovery Cartier Oud & pink, oud & Santal , oud & ember , I love those . But their higher end so I don’t consider them designer too much
Totally off topic. I have a chance to get vintage Chanel Cuir de Russie edc or cuir de russie edt. What would be your recommendation?
EDT is my favorite... a touch less floral than the EDC with more smoke and animalics 💪🐏

Oh pricey line, not tried anything from it, however I wanna say I like the Tuxedo profile as I cheaped out and got a bottle of Moustache edp lol ,a few new clones available not but heyho what I got will do cheers Rams have a good weekend man 🙏✌️👍

I'm not sure it's tenable to expect any improvement under the auspicious hand of the money machine. I would imagine that the job of brands is to produce a lucrative product and little more. Wrapped up in romantic imagery and served with no small amount of illusion of course. Doesn't take much if you're already living a self-ascribed one n'est ce-pas? "And that's the end of THAT chapter." 🧣🤣
I need one of THOSE jobs .. half a million a year to pump out TRASH on the monthly release ... ugh 😒
